About My Waikato

The free My Waikato app makes it easier to access important regional council info on your phone. But more importantly, it’s a fast and simple way for you to share what’s happening around you.

So how does it work? My Waikato shows you a cool interactive map, with pins dropped at locations of interest. Pins can be about all sorts of topics like the environment, economy, and the community. Each topic appears as a layer or channel. You choose which channels you want to view.

Here’s the current list of channels to check out:
· Swimmability – Find out if your favourite swimming spot’s water is clean enough to swim in.
· Incident Response – Have you come across an oil spill, dead fish in the water, land erosion, a weird smell, or something else unusual? Drop a pin to instantly let the Waikato Regional Council Incident Response Team know.
· Waikato River Authority – The authority provides funding to help improve the health and wellbeing of the Waikato River. You can now see what these projects are and how you can get involved.
· Enviroschools – School staff, students and the wider school community are working together to integrate environmental education with school life. Stay up to date with what your local Enviroschool is up to and where you could help.

We use location-based communication technology to present information that is most relevant to you, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

There are heaps of exciting new channels in the works that will be added continuously. If you want to see a particular channel added or have any feedback about the app, email digital@waikatoregion.govt.nz.
My Waikato is provided by Waikato Regional Council.
