About Zip Explorer

The Zip Explorer is a simple utility application that allows you to download a compressed Zip file from the web or as an e-mail attachment from the Mail app. Once downloaded, you can browse through the contents of the saved Zip file. All zip files downloaded from the web and e-mail are stored until you choose to delete them from Zip Explorer. You can also create new Zip files.

You can also go to the File Sharing section under the Apps tab in iTunes and add or download files from the documents directory for Zip Explorer. When you launch Zip Explorer, all of the Zip files contained in the documents directory will be displayed.

The application also allows you to decompress and view files with the following extensions: pages, numbers, key, txt, png, bmp, jpg, jpeg, gif, tiff, tif, pdf, html, htm, rtf, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, doc, docx, mp4, mov, mpg, avi, m4v, wav, and mp3. The files are opened for viewing using the APIs provided by the iOS SDK.

While viewing the contents for any of the Zip files in the main documents directory of Zip Explorer you can select individual files from multiple Zip file sources that can be added to a new Zip file. Simply press the 'Create Zip' button to define the file name of the new Zip file to be created. Then click the 'Select Files' button while browsing through Zip files and click on a file to have it added to the new Zip file. When a file is clicked, a check box will appear beside the file while in selection mode. To remove a file, click the file again and the check box will disappear indicating that file will not be added to the new Zip file. When finished adding files, you can click the 'Zip Files' button to create your new Zip. The new Zip file will then be added to the main documents directory along with your other Zip files.

After viewing and creating new Zip files, you can then optionally choose to attach one of the compressed Zip files or one of the uncompressed files to an e-mail.
