Were you a vaguely weird preteen? Did you own multiple horse shirts? (You may be entitled to compensation.) Then, like us, you might remember longing for the coveted but elusive back-to-school glow-up. You make your triumphant return from summer break—your hair is longer, you’re wearing every flavor of Lip Smackers, your crush finally notices your horse shirt. “Who is that?” your peers whisper as you glide past. The lockers part. You ascend into the sky. Or something like that.

But did we ever successfully blossom into middle school royalty? You’ll have to consult our diaries (spoiler: no). Instead, we’ve projected all that energy onto Asana, which has recently had a glow-up of its own. We redesigned headers, sort options, filters, and more for a unified and efficient layout. Now you can spend less time searching for stuff and navigate across your tasks, projects, and inbox with ease.

“The usual”—as in “I’ll have the usual”—is such a bewitching little phrase. Sure, you could dismiss it as boring or unoriginal or a bygone of childhood diners past, but the implication of rote predictability belies a special kind of familiarity and even warmth. “The usual” can only exist in a place where someone cares to remember this small thing about you. “The usual” is a little bit of yourself, out in the world.

And while the Asana “usual” isn’t always as immediately delightful as a black coffee and the pancake special (extra whip), we hope it’s a familiar treat all the same. Fewer bugs. More improvements. Just the usual.

There’s something so delightful and easy about a repeat. Like—have we watched the “can I pet that dawg” video approximately 5 billion times? Perhaps. But will we drop everything and watch it in full anytime it’s reposted? Without hesitation.

And while recurring Asana tasks typically lack the charming drawl of the aforementioned aspirational dawg-petter, it’s now easier than ever to set them up to repeat. You can quick-select options and get more specific with when exactly tasks repeat.

And speaking of delightful viewing experiences: our modals are now all full-screen, so you can see more options at once and select them with ease.

When Walt Whitman wrote, “I contain multitudes,” we doubt he anticipated the lasting resonance of that one small line in an otherwise very, very long poem.

And while it’s possible he wouldn’t love that some people (absolutely, definitely not us—but some people) use that line to justify housing a full Meat-Lovers Supreme after the gym, he might still appreciate the general sentiment—the beautiful contradiction of it all.

Another thing that now contains multitudes? Asana’s login page. We released multi-account login, so you can switch between your multitudes of accounts with ease. Go to the Account tab and tap the avatar to add a new login.

And one more update for the math folks out there: formula custom fields can now be viewed on mobile.

Wir haben unserem Fälligkeitskalender einen neuen Anstrich verpasst: Es gibt jetzt mehr Platz um die Daten herum, sodass Sie diese einfacher auswählen können.

As many of us flit off on various summer excursions, you might find yourself entombed in the plane’s much-dreaded middle seat, legs akimbo, and knees fully lodged into the seat in front of you, whose occupant’s near-Sisyphean efforts to recline that much further into you are so egregious that it’s almost admirable. Yet you can’t fault them, really, because their one true desire is also yours: more room.

For similar reasons, our due-date calendar is getting a business-class upgrade. That is, more of that sweet, sweet space for you to tap accurately and select due dates with ease.

Picture Captain James T. Kirk at the helm of the Enterprise (we’re imagining Chris Pine, but you do you, Shatner-heads). Everything must be arranged just so—the command chairs at the center of the bridge, Sulu to his left, Chekov to his right, maybe Spock living long and prospering somewhere in the background. You get the idea: everything in its place, always ready to (boldly) go.

While we don’t anticipate alien attacks as part of your typical Asana experience, we want you to always have your sections organized the way you like them, just in case. Now when you collapse or expand a section in your Asana projects, they’ll stay that way (even after you close and reopen the app).

There are things you find yourself saying over and over.

“Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe in this scene,” you screech at your beleaguered partner, who has heard this literally every time you watch The Two Towers. “The guy who plays Roy improvised the ‘tears in rain’ line,” you howl into the Blade Runner abyss. “Please. I am begging you: don’t put sour cream in this burrito,” you whimper once again at the local taqueria, even though you know—and they know—that they always will.

But something we’ll never get tired of saying? That we just have the usual bug fixes and improvements this time around. New features are fun, but that Asana bread and butter is exceptional. And as for all those bugs we quashed? They’ll be lost in time. Like tears in rain.

We recently received feedback that these release notes can be a touch…loquacious. (Harsh but fair, harsh but fair.) With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce only the usual bug fixes and improvements.

As for what you’ll do with all this found time? Consider it an unexpected gift. Instead of slogging through long-winded release notes, we humbly recommend using this 5-minute windfall to:

• Learn the fancy handshake from The Parent Trap. Proceed to awe your friends.
• Stroll outside! Feel the sun on your face!
• Watch the new Indiana Jones trailer approximately 2.8 times. Marvel at the perpetual joy that is Harrison Ford.
• Consider watering your plants. Forget to do so. Shamefully discard their withered remains. Swear you’ll do better next time. Purchase new plants. Repeat as needed.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for those of you who somehow missed the last 18 years of civilization and never saw The Office (shoutout to all the pop-culture contrarians out there; we all choose our own battles).

Anyway. In The Office finale, Pam has a line that always gets us: “There’s a lot of beauty in everyday things. Isn’t that kind of the point?” And after we’ve finished openly weeping (but before we go straight back to Season 1, Episode 1), we can’t help but notice how right she is. Truly, is there anything more lovely than the steam off the day’s first coffee? Or that bus driver who’s always smiling? The way a good orange seems to glow?

So when we tell you we’ve only got the same ol’ bug fixes and improvements this time around, we hope you’ll see that for what it really is: pretty ordinary but also kind of … beautiful?? It's the same great Asana, just a little bit better. We’re thinking that’s kind of the point.

In a post-A Bug’s Life world, it just doesn’t feel right to squash a bug anymore. OK fine, you don’t want it in the house, but what if it just happens to have a rich inner world and a ragtag group of circus friends that might miss him when he’s gone? What if he’s yet to complete his hero’s journey or realize that the courage he needed was inside him all along? Some food for thought.

The good news is that the bugs we’re squashing here at Asana are all of the non-sentient variety. So this time around, it’s just the usual bug fixes and improvements—no anthropomorphization needed.

Honestly? The best part of playing any video game is customizing your character. Sure, your Sims doppelgänger might be miserable and inexplicably locked in the bathroom, but at least she has a fire outfit and those bangs you always wanted.

And while you can’t dress up the flying unicorn (yet!), you can now give your app a more personal touch by adding or hiding your weekly focus banner. Just give it a long-press to take it down.

And for the detail-oriented players out there, we also have new metadata fields for you to see who created a task and when it was created, modified, or completed.

Sometimes, it’s the details that make all the difference. Like the extra chocolate at the bottom of a Drumstick cone. Like the bloop-bloop TiVo noise. Like a dress with pockets.

In the same spirit, we spiced up our details menu to give you a little extra love. Now you can search for tasks in a specific project, search for tasks in My Tasks, and create follow-up tasks from task or conversational details. Just tap the details menu and look for “search in project” or “create follow-up task.”

It’s about damn time. No, literally — this update is about time. Since we can't whip up more of those sweet, sweet hours for you, we did the next best thing: we gave you better time period features in goals. Now you can see the corresponding time period of a goal in your list of goals and goal details. And you can filter goals by time period, too. That’s all for now. Thanks for your valuable time.

But these new boards are so delightful.
And since you have more work to do
Complete tasks with a custom field view.

When work shows no signs of stoppin’
An animation will help you get poppin’
Where are your newly created tasks stored?
In the board, in the board, in the board!

Send appreciations — we think you'll like 'em
You’re so excited, and you just can't hide it
Just send one, send two, send three, send four appreciations.

Thanks for the tunes, Pointer Sisters. This month, we added condensed sticker stories just like on the web. Your tasks and conversations won’t be overloaded with appreciations and celebrations. Tap to add a new appreciation and long-press to see who sent what. This update also includes bug fixes and general improvements.

Oh hello again. You’re lookin good. You know what else is lookin' good? A few changes to the app.

Like our message composer. Now when you send a message, it redirects you straight to the message details. Which is wayyy better than dumping you back to whatever screen you were on. Plus makes it harder to lose the important message you just sent (that would suck). We made the body composer expandable too, so you don’t have to type big things in a teeny tiny little box.

We also added support for iOS Shortcuts, so you can now enable Shortcuts workflows that create Asana tasks. This update also includes bug fixes and general improvements. Ok good lookin, see ya back here soon.

Let's start with the first feature, can we get any bidders for the first feature? Looks like List View now shows a grid that displays all of a project's custom fields. Wow! Tap "Fields" to show, hide, reorder, or create a new custom field. The minimum bid is a download. Can we get a download?

Thank you, download! Next we have the new and improved Inbox. Tap "Expand" to see more details about your notifications. Would you look at that! You can also swipe to take quick actions, like archiving or creating a follow-up task. All this could be yours for just a download. Can we get a download?

But wait, there's more! We're also throwing in bug fixes and improvements. Going once, going twice, gone!

If you love getting notifications in the middle of focus work, important conversations, tense scenes in a movie, or good ol’ relaxation time… raise your hand. Anyone?

Same. In addition to bug fixes, this update includes Do Not Disturb. Mute push notifications and let your team know you're away. Whatever moment you’re in—stay in it.

A horoscope for every sign:

You’re feeling a strong pull towards the dark. Lean into it with Dark Mode for iOS. It's also an excellent time to start reordering tasks, sections, and columns while offline. Because now you can. You may feel called upon to give approval or constructive criticism, so take advantage of Approval tasks on mobile. And…what’s this? You might want to edit your PDFs, which you can now do with proofing and annotations directly on your Asana app.

One is the loneliest number...for updates, so we have three:
First, a change to inbox. Buckle up, because now you can switch between activity and archived notifications right from your inbox menu.
Two, you can approve or reject requests to join your team in app. When you receive requests, a banner will appear in the Home tab—just like it does on the web.
Last but not least, say hello to enhanced numeric fields. They’re now grouped by region, and will show currency, percent, and custom labels as long as they’re enabled on web.

Staying productive on a weekday evening
Scrolling through a full inbox
It’d be constructive if you could switch your app feeds
‘tween what’s active and what’s not
Now you can, with two clicks
Switch to all your archived notifications
And what’s more you can add
New teammates from directly in the app

We push our update
Check our tech
Ask us how we’re feeling
Feeling good as heck

Woo child, tired of these app bugs
Gotta dust our code off, make the UI more fun
Yes we, made a few improvements
Task lists so clean the whole team will use them
Come now, come try it out
This update is fire, you don’t have to doubt
Simplifying work is what we’re about
And honestly our dev team went all out

If you’re not convinced after that
We hope at least you got a laugh

Bugs don’t stand a chance.
Polish up our app,
New release and it’s a wrap.
Writing’ this app note, ha.
We don’t want to gloat,
This one just might be,
Our best one yet you wait and see.

Opposite of rad bug,

Get under the hood devs,
Like we said we would devs,
And we fixed some, bugs.

Two, four, six...um, hmm...nirvana! Here’s what’s new in Asana.
• You'll now see a privacy indicator to make it clear when you're creating a private task versus a public task.
• If you attach the wrong file you can still blame it on your thumbs, but now you can delete it so no one has to know you blamed your thumbs.

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey, when along came a spider, who sat down beside her and said, "Did you know you now have full support for creating and displaying milestones in Asana? And the app is available in Japanese!"

Yeti: Next up, we’re going to hear from Narwhal who’s live at Asana with new updates.
Narwhal: Thanks Yeti. I’ve just learned from the team here that this release includes improvements to the milestones and proofing features, and customers on paid plans will see them after they tap “Update.” Now back to you in the studio, Yeti.

Images, meet proofing improvements. This handy feature lets reviewers mark up images directly in Asana, and BOOM: their feedback becomes subtasks to action. Oh, and let me introduce you to some general bug fixes, too. Cheers!

tl;dr - we fixed some bugs

iPad fixes: the “Overdue tasks” button in Project Overview > Status now works properly. Also, you’ll find “Add to project” where it should be.

Other fixes: the strikethrough icon in the rich text toolbar wasn’t where it should be. Sorry, that must have looked weird. Also, ordinal numbers now translate correctly, and, last but not least, text entry in Japanese works as it should. Out, out, darn bugs!

“Hmm,” said a portfolio in the Asana app. “Very interesting. Plenty of project progress, I see. Not bad status updates either. There’s priority, oh my goodness, yes—and nice date ranges, now that’s interesting. . . So how should I sort the projects?” Now you can choose which project field to sort your portfolios by. Also, this is the last release that will support iOS 10, so please update your software to access future versions of our iOS app.

Business and Enterprise flight controllers, give us a go-no-go for the Portfolios launch. Create and edit portfolios? Go. Get a high-level overview of progress? We’re a go. View and request status updates? Go, flight. View project health details? Go. Launch control, this is Asana: tap Portfolios in the bottom nav, then tap the + button (it’s now contextual), and you’re a go.
