What does BMI mean?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It does not measure fat directly but it is an easy-to-perform method of screening for weight category and measuring body fat indirectly. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness, while a low BMI can be an indicator of very low body fatness.
What are the weight categories for BMI?
Below 18.5 = Underweight
18.5 - 24.9 = Healthy or Normal Weight
25.0 - 29.9 = Overweight
Above 30 = Obese
Please keep in mind athletes may have a high BMI because of increased muscularity rather than increased body fatness.
