Lord Shiva is known as the destroyer among the Holy Trinity(Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva) of Hinduism. Lord Shiva is known to be easily angered and even more easily appeased. Lord Shiva is said to have three eyes, of which, the third eye is opened to completely annihilate anything in it's presence. Lord Shiva's weapon of choice is the holy trident, known as the 'trishul'. Lord Shiva is described as the absolute/ultimate 'yogi', i.e , one who has full control over all senses and elements.
Lord Shiva has his body wrapped in an attire made of tiger's skin. Lord Shiva's body has poisonous snakes as ornaments. Lord Shiva's form is said to be beyond the descriptive capability of even other gods, hence Lord Shiva is worshipped in the symbolic form of a 'shivalinga'. Lord Shiva's consort is Devi Parvathi. Together, they are known as the universal couple. Lord Shiva's family consists of Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya/Murugan and Lord Ayyapa as sons.
Lord Shiva is mentioned as 'mrityunjaya' or the one who has victory over death. Lord Shiva has been known to be worshipped even before the advent of temples.
