About CalproSmart
CalproSmart is a home-testing app to support management of chronic IBD.
Founded by the inventors of the technology behind the ELISA kits for determination of calprotectin in stools and other biological materials, CalproSmart is a system to monitor the effect of medical treatment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The app is part of a rapid home-based test system that, by calculation of the concentration of the calprotectin protein in an extract of faeces, both enables identification of possible non-responders and patients who are in an early phase of relapse.
Patients with IBD are trained by their medical team and by using the system are able to monitor their own illness. The app gives detailed instructions on how to perform the test.
The concentration of calprotectin is determined by the color intensity of two lines on the test which is based on antibody-antigen reaction. Using a smartphone, the patient captures an image of the test which is used by the system to calculate the concentration of calprotectin. The level is shown as “traffic lights” (green, yellow, red) in the display as well as the concentration given in mg/kg. The result is sent to the CalproSmart web portal for the patient’s doctor to review.
CalproSmart is a smart and easy to use solution that provides a “closed feedback loop” to measure the level of disease and possible needs for actions or changes in treatment. The solution integrates the use of new technology with the patient using an app to enable data to be transferred directly to the gastroenterologist for immediate analysis and review of actions in relation to treatment.
