Close your eyes and stand perfectly still. Can you feel it? You really can’t but you are actually moving at hundreds of miles per hour even when you are standing still. How can this be? You are moving because the Earth is spinning. The closer you are to the equator, the faster you are moving. When standing at the equator, you are moving at 1040 miles/hours (1674 kilometers/hour). The closer you are to the north and south poles, the slower you are moving.

This entertaining app will show you how fast you are moving based on your current location. You can also see how fast the Earth is spinning at over 36,000 cities around the world.
