About Food Rescue Hero
40% of food goes to waste while 1 in 7 in goes hungry. Food rescue heroes help to end food waste and hunger.
In as little as 30 minutes of your time, you can rescue perfectly good food from going to waste and deliver it to nonprofits who serve those who are food insecure.
Connect to your existing social media accounts to sign up to be a food rescue hero.
Set your preferences on when and where you can do food rescues.
Get alerts when rescues become available. Opt in to rescues that fit your schedule. Rescue everyday, every week or just give it a try.
Food rescue heroes get information on where to pick up the food and where to drop it off—we guide you every step of the way.
The app gives you information about the work that the nonprofit you are delivering to. And because you drop off at directly to the organization that will distribute the food, you see the impact you have made on hunger.

- Some devices/versions were unable to select a preferred mapping software
- In the event of a route directions failure, the app now attempts the connection two more times before displaying an error message
- The History tab of My Rescues listed previously completed rescues in an unintuitive order. Now they will show up as expected: reverse chronological order
- Available rescues were, under certain circumstances, shown twice in list view
- Available weekly rescues were not shown in chronological order in list view
- Biweekly (every other week) rescues, under certain circumstances were not displaying according to the correct schedule in Upcoming Rescues
- My rescues and Available Rescues did not consistently display the correct dates for upcoming rescues
- When the “Add Item” button was tapped in the mobile app, the screen would become obstructed by the “Next” button
- Fixed workflow for users that select “I don’t see my region” from the “Choose your region” dropdown menu
- Eliminated some social sharing bugs by switching to use the device's native sharing process
