About Guardian Firewall + VPN

Take back control of your personal data with the protection of Guardian Firewall and VPN.

We believe people should be able to use apps on their digital devices without their data being sold to unknown third parties. Data that you’re not always aware that you’re sharing, such as confidential information, travel patterns, and lifestyle.

Guardian Firewall blocks unauthorized third parties from secretly collecting your personal information while adding an extra layer of security from hackers and insecure websites with our powerful VPN, protecting passwords, search history, and other sensitive data.

Our Guardian Pro subscription service is the protection of Guardian with the following additional features:

• Customized Blocklists: Add individual hosts or IP addresses to be effectively blocked, as well as try our experimental Guardian-curated firewall rules, for a privacy experience tuned to your needs

• Push Notifications: Instant notifications when your device attempts to connect to an unwanted connection to further assist in identifying a culprit app or website. Easily filter notifications by type of Alert

• Generate & Export Credentials: Create additional sets of VPN credentials to secure your other devices capable of establishing IKEv2 or WireGuard connections (includes ability to export preset .mobileconfig or .conf files for IKEv2 or WireGuard respectively)

• Family Sharing of subscriptions is now available to Pro users. Share your subscription to 5 additional family members (5 different Apple IDs) with no additional cost.

Guardian Day Passes are available for $0.99 each in 24 hour increments. Purchase as many Day Passes as you’d like, choose to activate some right away, or share a few with friends and family.

Guardian subscription service is available for $9.99 per month, or $99.99 per year
Guardian Pro subscription service is available for $149.99 per year.

Highlights:

• Firewall: Block unwanted connections to location trackers, mail trackers, generic data trackers, and other online nuisances.

• VPN: All internet activity is sent through a persistent, fast, and secure, IKEv2 or WireGuard based tunnel, keeping internet service providers, hackers, and other unwanted entities from accessing your personal data.

• Privacy: Your VPN connection is authenticated with an automatically generated random identity, enabling access only by using the digital In-App Purchase receipt stored on your mobile device after purchase. (No personal information needed)

• Best In-Class IKEv2 Encryption: Data sent through the VPN tunnel using IKEv2/IPsec is encrypted using AES-256 to protect against interception by unauthorized parties.

• Support For Modern Standards: WireGuard connections are available on every server allowing you to freely choose which transport protocol to use without any compromises.

• Mask your IP: Your IP address and other device identifiers will be masked from third-parties in order to help protect your identity.

• Region Selection: Control your connection by selecting regions such as the United States, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Singapore and many more, that cover our global network of servers.

• Safe Browsing: Aggressive ads and web page hijackers are blocked by the Firewall, giving you an uninterrupted web browsing experience in any browser, without the need for browser extensions with direct access to your web browser.

• Alerts and Alert Filtering: Swipe up on the Alert menu to view all blocked, unwanted connections. Easily filter by type, or tap an Alert for more detailed information.

• Fast Connection: No impact on speed or performance.

• Support up to five iOS devices using the same AppleID

• Contact Technical Support available in-app for any questions or issues

2.3
Jun 30, 2022
Version 2.3 is a new milestone update that we are very excited about. It introduces official support for the very popular WireGuard transport protocol, potentially speeding up the connection to our VPN nodes greatly. The update also significantly reduces the amount of third party resources included in Guardian while retaining the same looks and functionality.
Due to this new capability we were required to set the minimum compatible iOS version to iOS 13. We are currently not planning to further increase the minimum compatible iOS version.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world to provide the best possible quality of service to as many subscribers as possible.

ADDED: WireGuard support. To switch to the new transport protocol please navigate into Guardian Settings -> Advanced -> tap onto Transport Protocol -> select WireGuard. You can switch back to IKEv2 which is the default protocol at any point.

FIXED: Updated various deprecated system APIs to maintain best compatibility with all supported iOS versions

FIXED: Properly show interactive alert on iPads in the Advanced menu

FIXED: Added buttons in the "Enable VPN" interface to disable the VPN connection while the attempted connection is getting stuck due to network connectivity issues or server issues which are in process of being addressed.

FIXED: Improved Subscriber Credential expiration validation logic

2.2.9
Mar 14, 2022
In this update of Guardian Firewall, we resolved more annoying bugs previously reported to us. We also highlighted server region selection in a more prominent way to streamline workflows.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world to provide the best possible quality of service to as many subscribers as possible.

IMPROVED: We irregularly received reports that the server selection feature was too hidden and required too many taps to get to. We moved this feature to allow users to switch regions directly from the main Settings interface. Simply tap on Location above the “Reset Configuration” option to choose your preferred location to connect to.

FIXED: A handful of users noted that their in-app purchase subscriptions were being ignored entirely which led to them being unable to enable the firewall by establishing the VPN connection. Possibly old, lingering values are now cleared more thoroughly to prevent this problem.

FIXED: Users may have been notified of a new in-app notification only to discover they were not able to read/view the notification. This problem should now be resolved and new notifications should be marked as read properly.

FIXED: The button to confirm resetting the VPN configuration may have been unresponsive or not visible in the interface at all on certain iPad models in Portrait orientation.

Jan 27, 2022
In this update we focus on improving the foundation on which we are building new capabilities.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world to provide the best possible quality of service to as many subscribers as possible.

FIXED: The switch for device diagnostic logs would turn the feature off but would not reflect that change in the interface.

FIXED: A few Pro customers subscribed through our website reported logout problems. This is fully resolved and account logins will persist across updates and device restarts.

FIXED: Thank you to those that were able to share crash diagnostics as we were able to quickly resolve two obscure, but still annoying crashes. Even if you don’t share these crash reports automatically with Apple and third party developers, please let us know if you encounter a crash as we want to eliminate all of them to provide the best experience possible.

NEW: We have added Yahoo Mail support in our Contact Technical Support E-Mail template. If you have other E-Mail clients you’d like us to support in the same way, please send us an email to let us know.

NEW: This update also includes two new beautiful icons; one for our Pro customers and one for our monthly or yearly customers. They were created by our own Twinkle Soni and are called Amethyst and Vivid, respectively. If you are in need of a colorful icon on your homescreen, give them a try. We are very happy about how they look.

We are excited to release new features and capabilities this year and are laser focused on improving our service. Thank you very much for your feedback and sustained support. It means the world to our little team!

FIXED: The app no longer asks to confirm the push preferences every time the connection is reset

ADDED: Domains as well as Apps added to the Exceptions are now displayed and sorted alphabetically

ADDED: More than 5 additional EAP credentials can be created and kept in the app if previously created credentials have since expired
2.2.6
Nov 29, 2021
We are pleased to introduce new features in this minor update to Guardian Firewall + VPN.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world to provide the best possible quality of service to as many subscribers as possible.

NEW: Access to Experimental Features - Pro subscribers may now access upcoming features prior to general availability. We have added a new experimental toggle to the Advanced menu of Guardian’s in-app Settings (Tap the Gear icon in the top right to access). By enabling the option, your device will connect to Guardian gateways running updated revisions of our infrastructure software. All existing features should always work and continue to be reliable, but optimizations may be completed server side to enable early access to new features. We are currently working on many feature additions to our cloud firewall and hope to roll these out to our Pro customers frequently.

NEW: Bypass Firewall Rules - The first addition of new features for Pro subscribers, Bypass Firewall Rules, can be found in the Advanced menu of Guardian’s in-app Settings. Enabling this feature will route your connection through Guardian’s secure tunnel, without enforcement of our standard firewall rule sets. This can be useful when accessing apps and websites which do not function properly if tracking/advertising software is blocked.
To enable this capability please navigate into Guardian Settings > Advanced > Enable Experimental Features (Pro Only) and then enable Bypass Firewall Rules.

ENHANCEMENT: To continue improving our support team’s ability to resolve issues for users, we have introduced a persistent log feature. No personally identifiable information is ever logged, nor do the contents of the log ever leave your device unless specifically enabled in our Contact Technical Support form. The log is never longer than 200 lines to be respectful of your device's disk space and always stored in plain text to be easily accessible and reviewable by any customer.
It is recommended to keep this setting enabled, but we understand and respect if some customers prefer to disable it. If you prefer to disable it, please navigate to Guardian Settings > Advanced and disable Persistent Debug Logs in the Local Data Management section.

We also resolved a few minor bugs, including a bug which would immediately ask to setup the Guardian Configuration VPN profile after initially downloading and opening the app. Fully resolved, the tunnel configuration is only installed if the Exceptions feature is enabled. We sincerely apologize to any new users who encountered this bug.

Thank you very much for your feedback and sustained support. It means the world to our little team!
2.2.5
Oct 5, 2021
We have assembled yet another release for you to further minimize bugs and expand on new features to make it easier to use Guardian Firewall on all available platforms.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world in new and existing regions to provide the best possible connection to as many people as possible.

After some very helpful reports from a few users with lots of screenshots we were able to hunt down a state disconnect in the Exceptions feature. Sometimes it would be off when it shouldn't be and sometimes it would end up being enabled when it shouldn't be, but no more! Once enabled, the Exceptions feature should now be turned on and off with the VPN connection automatically. If the VPN connection to our secure nodes is enabled and you setup Exceptions for your device, the feature should always be enabled, unless manually disabled of course.

We added a new feature for our Pro users that subscribed via the in-app purchase to cross authenticate in our new Mac app. Instead of copying a long scrambled piece of text into the Mac app you now only have to tap the button "Generate macOS Access Code" in Guardian Settings > Advanced and then type the 6 character string into our app on your Mac. We hope that this significantly streamlines the process for our customers interested in trying our new Mac app.

This update also addresses a couple of crashes, especially in our Notification menu which should no longer happen.
If you encounter any problems please feel free to reach out to us via the "Contact Technical Support" button. We are always aiming to provide a great experience to everybody but sometimes problems surface or bugs show their ugly faces. If you encounter anything please reach out to us, we are always happy to provide assistance!

This update contains a small fix to the Contact Technical Support logic

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store. We continue to deploy new servers for you around the world in new and existing regions to provide the best possible connection to as many people as possible.

New in the previous update, 2.2.2:
Improving Guardian to suit you, is what we do, and in this update we fixed a couple of bugs that were cramping our style.

The list of VPN credentials created to share to other devices now easily indicates it can be tapped to copy the generated VPN login information.

A few app images in the Exceptions search were shifting the layout of the interface due to their sizing. The interface layout now compensates for app icons of all sizes. A very obscure crash in the Exceptions search interface is resolved.

If you are still experiencing trouble with the selected Exceptions, you are now able to provide our technical support with a snapshot in time of the underlying stack which provides the Exceptions capabilities, if you chose to send it to us in order to help us resolve the issue.

Tapping on a notification about the expiration of an active Day Pass will no longer lead to an empty single Alert interface.

New in the previous update, 2.2:
It’s finally here! Introducing Exceptions; a powerful feature we are proud to bring to the Guardian Firewall experience.

Exceptions: This feature provides even more configuration of our Firewall + VPN service to cater to your specific needs. Can’t re-watch Mandalorian episodes because Disney + doesn’t play well with Guardian? Now, with exceptions, you can!

The Exceptions feature was created to allow users to precisely define what traffic should be excluded from being filtered by our firewall servers while still providing firewall and VPN protection to all other traffic. If you have noticed a website or application on your iOS device is acting up or simply won't load while Guardian is connected, this new feature solves this issue by allowing you to simply add the website URL or application to the Exceptions list. Once added, these specific apps or websites will be excluded from being routed through our firewall to create an uninterrupted experience all while continuing to protect and filter all other traffic as you use your device.

Enter any hostname you wish to exclude or search for the name of an iOS app in our database with over 14,000 analyzed applications. Our app database continues to be regularly updated to ensure the best possible compatibility.

For Pro users, we have completely overhauled the interface to generate additional VPN credentials, and added more sharing capability to share VPN credentials to other mobile OS using a .sswan StrongSwan compatible file.

This update also includes the ability to reset the Alerts menu counts to zero. It is like a day trip odometer for your app allowing you to quickly reset everything, as if you had just downloaded our app for the first time.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store.

2.1.5

A minor update to improve new user experience from purchasing to activating Guardian Firewall.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store.

- Day Passes interface now shows ability to activate 1 Day Pass by default instead of the maximum amount of Day Passes available.

- New users are now directly forwarded to the Enable VPN interface after purchasing a Day Pass eliminating any guesswork to getting connected.
2.1.4

In this minor update we focused on improving overall usability by requiring less taps for certain actions and guiding new users more effectively through the onboarding process.

If you are enjoying Guardian Firewall + VPN, we’d like to encourage you to rate or review our app in the App Store.

- A little notification menu now lives on the top left of the Protect interface. This menu will function, for those users that choose to opt-in, to inform you of future offers and announcements in a privacy respecting way. Unlike other business models, we will never auto opt-in to any settings or notifications in our app. We respect all users’ right to choose if you’d like to be notified by us.

- We eliminated a sneaky bug that affected some users that were prompted to either buy a Day Pass or subscribe even though they still had Day Passes which they could activate to re-establish their secure connection with our service.
