HiLois

HiLois is a platform that facilitates communications between the person in the middle of the “Circle” and their family and friends. HiLois is named after the founder’s mother who lived with from Alzheimer’s. The app was developed in partnership with researchers at the University of Cincinnati and a technology accelerator program.

If you have a tablet such as an iPad, simply give it it to mom or dad and connect it to the network and you can send photos and messages to it as easily as a text message. In moments, the post shows up, full screen, on the tablet with an audible tone. After a brief time, the most recent photo joins all previously sent pictures and messages in scrolling, slideshow-like fashion. They can enjoy the photos immediately from the family, often from afar. Additional features, such as brain teasers and mood tracking, encourage thinking.

HiLois was specifically designed to be ‘cognitively scalable.’ This means the functions of the app can be dialed back for minimal user interaction so that someone with little or no technical savvy or those with cognitive challenges, such as dementia, can enjoy the HiLois app. Or, the features can be fully engaged for those who are perfectly capable of tapping, typing and changing settings. The single app is role-based and configured as the VIP (where the primary interface is a photo carousel) or for the supporting Circle (sending content and managed by a standard timeline view.)

HiLois is now free to use! Users will receive unlimited access to the following functionality:

* Create your own private social network
* Send photos directly to a tablet photo carousel
* Chat in the app with members of your private Circle
* Like and comment on posts
* Review the VIPs activity
* Engage the VIP with mood prompts and brain teasers
