“五燈”系指五部禪宗燈錄：
①北宋法眼宗道原的《景德傳燈錄》；
②北宋臨濟宗李遵勖的《天聖廣燈錄》；
③北宋雲門宗惟白的《建中靖國續燈錄》；
④南宋臨濟宗悟明的《聯燈會要》；
⑤南宋雲門宗正受的《嘉泰普燈錄》。
先後於北宋景德元年（1004）至南宋嘉泰二年（1202）的近200年間分別成書。
