About Phillip Island Park Ranger
Protecting wildlife and managing the island’s natural environment are all part of a day’s work for a Phillip Island Park Ranger.
Phillip Island has some of Victoria’s most unique wildlife such as Little Penguins, Australian Fur Seals, Hooded Plovers, Koalas and more, and you’re in charge of protecting these animals, and managing their special habitats through a series of five challenging mini-games.
Seal Rocks Colony – Monitor the population of Australian Fur Seals out at Seal Rocks by conducting an aerial count. Help rescue any seals that may become entangled in marine debris such as plastic bags, fishing line or netting.
Beach Clean-up – Patrol the island’s beaches to collect and remove marine debris while protecting the endangered Hooded Plover nests with fences to improve their chances of survival.
Cape Woolamai Shearwater Habitat – During the warmer months, over one million Short-tailed Shearwaters call Cape Woolamai home, and you need to control the invasive weeds so the shearwaters can dig their burrows.
Penguin Weighbridge Maintenance – The penguin weighbridge is a vital piece of research equipment, so you need to repair and maintain the electronic circuits to make sure the penguins’ microchip data can be collected.
Koala Reserve – Feed the koalas in the Koala Reserve and keep them happy. Sound easy? Visit the Eucalypt plantation first and choose which gum leaf branches the koalas like, then distribute them around the Reserve’s boardwalks. It’s a little trickier than you might think.
Control Centre – Manage the island’s environment from your Control Centre which you can upgrade as you progress through the game and gain Experience Points.
