チェルノブイリ原発の不幸な事故から40年後、運命のいたずらにより、プレイヤーは細部まで再現された、プリピャチ市のあるエリアを訪れることに。驚愕の物語を紐解き、謎を解明して、愛する人を救いましょう。

目標は一筋縄では達成できません。限りなく広がるオープンワールドには、危険と異様な生き物が溢れています。飢えた捕食動物や類人生物が、肉を求めて蠢く世界。かつて美しかった街は、エレメントや放射線、謎の現象が相まって、禁止区域になっています。しかし、主人公はここに足を踏み入れなければなりません。

建物の中を漁って、資源を入手しましょう。特にプリピャチ市のランドマーク、ホテル・ポリーシャ、文化センター、シネマ・プロメテウス、スイミングプール、そして廃墟となったアパートメントには、多くの資源が眠っています。道具を賢く選択して作りましょう。野営地を見つけたら、中で安全に夜を超すことができます。見つけた装置や武器、乗り物だけが頼りです。
