周静，惨死于王爱国工厂，是和杜翠兰一起插队去伊犁的好友。杜翠兰获得返京名额回京工作。周静偶尔回京，在京期间借住在妹妹周芳家。

周芳，周静的妹妹，住在中关村科学院宿舍一个破旧的筒子楼里。国际倒爷，专门倒卖化妆品等物资到苏联，与周静关系非常要好。周静失踪后一心认为姐姐是被谋杀，但无人相信，她私自调查了所有相关线索，暗中帮助刘青春破案。但据邻居反映，她最后一次从苏联回来一个多星期没出屋，也没人进来过。

1991年2月19日，周芳死于屋内，并且只找到部分尸体。头部离奇失踪，警方只发现了四肢和躯干。办案民警在屋内发现各种难以理解的文字描述和奇怪的物品。

市局高度重视，孙副局长叫来刘青春说：“小刘啊，最近你手上那个案子越来越复杂了，看来这个周芳也和你的这个系列案有很大关系啊。我让他们先撤下来，你今天晚上去看看现场吧。你经历的多，也许能看出什么端倪。”，“哦对了，歌舞厅那个案件，你叫王勇给你说说，你不在，他主办的这个案件。应该也和你这个事儿有关系。
