About Luther’s Small Catechism

Written by Martin Luther in 1529, the Small Catechism provides a brief, clear summary of God’s Word on the essentials of the Christian faith. In question-and-answer format, it explores the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine and includes daily prayers, a table of duties for Christians in their various callings, and a guide forChristians as they prepare to receive Holy Communion.An explanation designed to help readers understand and apply Luther’s Small Catechism has accompanied editions of the catechism since the early days of Lutheranism. The 2017 edition offers an updated and expanded explanation, tackling issues prevalent in our culture today. With 374 questions and 1142 Scripture references, the new Explanation provides more biblical teaching and devotional aids than ever before. The Bible text included in the Explanation is from the English Standard Version (ESV).

Support for iOS 11

*We’ve continued to add new language translations. Most recently, both Finnish and Japanese were added. In doing so, that caused the list of languages to fall off the screen for those that have smaller 4” phone sizes. We now made that list scrollable. Sorry about that.

Recently, one of our developers was invited to a choir potluck and became mesmerized by an entire table filled with every variety and color of Jell-O salad. After a bout of over-indulgence, he emerged from the church basement inspired. Not fully recovered from his sugar rush, he managed to string together a few coherent sentences and convince the team that colors are in, and off we went to make his hallucination a reality.

Fixed: Squished a few bugs.

Back in November, we locked our developers in a room with a month’s supply of Jell-O salad and tuna noodle casserole, and they emerged earlier this week with the iPad version of Luther's Small Catechism!
