About Range: For Youth
HELP YOUTH FIND A MEAL and A SAFE PLACE
Range is a free mobile app that locates the time and place where free meals are served to youth this summer and where families can find the nearest public library. Download Range to locate the nearest sites and get directions, share information via text or email, and learn about key services the site offers.
*Update 6/3/15: Range is useful during the summer months only (May-August).
During the school year, youth are served meals at the school cafeteria, but during the summer months only 1 in 6 who eat lunch at school take advantage of free programs when school is out. If you work with youth or interact with families in need, use Range to increase visibility to the neighborhood sites that provide this crucial service. Summer meal programs provide free meals to youth 18 and under in your community when school is out.Tell others about Range —librarians, clergy, social workers, physicians, parks and rec counselors—and how they can help families find free meals this summer.
As part of providing services to youth, Range also locates all public libraries in the U.S. Refer youth and families to public libraries for programs, a good book, and a safe place.
Data from USDA powers Range to locate reliable sources of healthy and free meals, and data from IMLS census data locates public libraries.

- In response to Range user feedback, we added a new section, “Safe Places” to Range which provides location information for all U.S. public libraries. Public libraries are safe, free, and available to youth (and all people). Libraries offer access to knowledge, information, and solace, providing key resources for youth and their families.
