About iOrienteering

iOrienteering combines the convenience of a smartphone with the challenge of orienteering. As well as using QR barcodes to load the course, start, finish and read checkpoints, you can now use your device's GPS to detect your location.

iOrienteering allows both score and point to point (linear) courses. Checkpoints can now be used multiple times, so Phi or Butterfly loops can be created

You can set up private or public course.

Private if just for you, your friends, a school or club. Public if anyone can take part.

Simple and great fun. It is free to use. Although designed for orienteering it can be used in any situation where you would like to time or score an event, or you simply what to show someone has traveled to a specific location.

For a fun example, you could use it on a stag night with a barcode at each pub or on a car navigation event to show various points have been visited.

If you use the app for something unusual then tell us about it as we'd love to hear about it.

There is also now support for multiple languages - we will be steadily adding new languages as we have them translated.

The new version of the app serving a brand new dashboard. Many bugs fixed.

You can now design courses on Google Maps, which you can show or hide from users.

You can now create breakpoints to pause the clock during an event. These allow safety breaks, say for a road crossing but they can be used in other ways such as for a break for a food stop or kit check.

Warnings can be turned on or off. The warnings give users feedback if they go to a checkpoint out of order for example. Great for beginners and helping users, but not wanted in proper competitions.

Results can be uploaded to the website more reliably and can be viewed more easily on the phone or on the website.

Sub-accounts can be created and linked to the main account. We only need basic info for a subaccount so they are great for schools, families or groups where one person manages the users.

Courses can be copied- Create a large, private event with all your checkpoints on, then copy this multiple times to create individual courses from this master course- delete the controls you will not need and sort the remainder into the correct order.

The app still works well offline - you don't need any mobile signal at the event centre for the app to work, but more features are available in areas with good mobile coverage.
