OALD 9th edition

We have re-released this app to allow customers to easily restore previous purchases.

- We have added support for iOS 12 and have optimized the app for newer iPhone and iPad models.
- In OALD9, we have fixed the issue with iCloud syncing of Favourites and History, and audio can once again be played when using the Safari look-up (‘Share…’) feature.

The OALD 9th edition includes NEW words, NEW usage notes, NEW features, and a NEW design.

If you have updated to version 2.0 and have experienced problems, this version fixes issues with the in-app downloads. OALD8 should now be always accessible after you have downloaded it, and the in-app purchase of OALD9 will now be offered at the correct price.
*** Some users are experiencing difficulties downloading the dictionary content inside the app.

Before downloading and installing the dictionary content, please check the amount of space available on your device.

You will need about 1 GB for OALD8, or 1.5 GB for OALD9.

This amount of space is only required when you download. Once the dictionary content is installed on your device, it will only take up about half this space.

We have updated the design of the app for iOS7, and added a few other minor improvements. For example, you can now resize the text in the word list independently from the text in the dictionary entries, and full text search results give you the closest match first.

All your Favourites and any downloaded example sentences will be preserved.

We have fixed two issues with the search functionality:

•slow response to user typing in the search box
•number entries appearing wrongly in the Did you mean? results list

All your Favourite entries and new Favourites folders will be preserved when you update.

Please note, if you have not downloaded the spoken sentences and wish to do so, you will need to update the app first because the download will no longer work from older versions.

We have made several improvements in this version:

• improved Favourites: now you can create folders to organize your Favourite entries, and Favourites are stored in alphabetical order. Please note that any existing Favourites will be retained when you update
• fixed corrupt sound files identified by users. Updating from version 1.3.1 to the latest version will retain your downloaded sentences but please re-download to access the fixed content
• News feature: look here to learn more about the new Favourites features, and to find links to blogs and other news from Oxford University Press ELT
• Russian localization added

• We have fixed the problem with the quiet sound on iPhones. All audio is now louder on all iPhone models. This was not an issue on other devices.
• If you're listening to music on your device, this will now fade out if you play any OALD audio.

We have fixed the landscape orientation problem on iPads running iOS 6, and the new version is currently being reviewed by Apple. We hope it will be available available very soon.You may wish to wait until this update is available before updating your OALD 8 app.

We are very sorry, but we have identified some new display issues with this update on iPads running iOS 6. Please DO NOT UPDATE your OALD app at this time if this affects you. We are working on a solution. If you are using an iPhone or an iPod touch, or an iPad running iOS 5, this should not affect you.

For users of iPads running iOS 6 who have already updated, the app still works as normal if you force the app to close, then reopen the app with the device in portrait position, with the device's home button at the bottom.
