PlayDoggle:

Doggle is an app that enables you to play a word game against remote players using iCloud for the information transfer. You must have an active iCloud account to use this app. If you do not have an active account and you are not logged into that account this app will not work. The app will not use any of your iCloud storage for the information transfers. Doggle is also now available as a weekly timed game against all other Doggle players that are participating.

Doggle is now also available as a weekly timed game against all other Doggle players that are participating. This is an opt-in option, that you activate on the “Main Menu” by depressing the “Doggle Weekly Game Setup” button. The game is a timed game and once you start the game it must be completed in the time frame given. The games will be available on “Sunday” of each week. You can “Pause” the game and then play when you are ready. The game must be completed and sent in for scoring by the end of day the next Saturday after the game was downloaded. The game results will be processed on the next Sunday or after all players have completed the game.

The app requires the initiating player “Game Owner” to choose the type of play timed or untimed, select the other players for the game “Players” and create the Doggle Board by one of two methods for distribution to the other players. The app verifies that the word’s letters are connected and that the word is in the dictionary and are the correct length for the game. When the players are finished they send their words to the “Owner” that initiated the game and then the “Owner” scores the game and sends back the results to each player.

The game has many options for the type of play you choose. You can play a single player game where you compete against yourself to find how many words you can complete from the board. You can play a one on many game where you compete against other players where the player with the most unique words and highest word score wins. You can also play a team game where teams are chosen and the teams’ words are combined and then that teams combined words are scored against the other teams’ words. You can also now choose between three board sizes for your game, the "6x6" with 36 letters on a board, the "5x5" with 25 letters per board and the "4x4" with 16 letters per board.

General Information:

You set the rules for this game, if you have any unique rules for your playing group you must self-monitor these rules this app does have the ability to monitor these types of self-made rules. The scoring for word size is standard for “Doggle”:

3-4 letters 1 point
5 letters 2 points
6 letters 3 points
7 letters 5 points
8+ letters 11 points.

For each game there is an “Owner” (initiator)and “Players” (invitee). The Owner is responsible for setting the parameters for the game, creating the “Doggle Board” and inviting the players to the game and at the completion of the game scoring the game results and distributing the results to the players. The Players have the responsibility to send their scores to the Owner. These files are automatically sent to the proper player(s) via iCloud.

If you are just starting the game as part of an existing group or as a new player, you must open the “Add or Edit Players” and add your information and then designate your “My Record” as “Yes”. if you joining an existing group, ask one one of the existing players will send you the current player's list. When you receive the alert that you have player's ready to download, just depress "Okay" the player’s file will automatically be updated with the new information. After you have loaded the players into the app you must open the “Add or Edit Players” and your is designated “My Record” as a “Yes” and that you only have one record on the player's file..

The dictionary used by the app is Apple version of the dictionary.

With this new version 6.0, Doggle is now available as a weekly timed game against all other Doggle players that are participating. This is an opt-in option, that you activate on the “Main Menu” by depressing the “Doggle Weekly Game Setup” button. You will get an alert message telling you have an invite to download. Depress the “Download and View Pending Cloud Files” Button and the invitation will be shown. Select the invitation and the game will be downloaded and you will go to the Play Doggle screen. You can “Pause” the game and then play when you are ready. The game must be completed and sent in for scoring by 11:59pm on the next Saturday after the game was downloaded. The game results will be processed also on Sunday and when they are completed the results will again create an alert notice that you have results to download from the “Download & View Pending Cloud Files. After the results are downloaded they can be viewed by depressing the “Game Results” button.

We have moved the communications between playing members from e-mails to iCloud. To use this new feature, you must be logged into your iCloud account and have iCloud Drive enabled and have iCloud enabled for the Doggle App.. The App does not use any of your iCloud space but it uses that information to authenticate you for access to iCloud, you must have a valid account. If you fail to do this the App will not allow you to access the cloud files and the App will not function.


When you first open “Doggle” if you have pending transactions in iCloud you will get a message that you have either: Invites, Scores, Players or Results available to download. You just need to depress “Okay” and then go to “Download Pending Cloud Files & View Pending Files”. The Invite’s and Scores will then be displayed in the “Doggle File Processor”. The Results and Players will be directly loaded to the app.

If for some reason you are unable to save your file to the Cloud for Invites, Scores or Results the file will be written to a new Database “Cloud Save Write Errors” to resend these files you just depress the “Cloud Saved Write Errors” button and then depress the files you wish to resend.

There is also now a test to see if you are connected to the Internet, if you are not connected, you can still play Doggle but you will not be able to access the Cloud so you cannot issue invitations, receive scores or send results, but you can still play the game.

Also fixed an error where games with more than two players, sometimes the second score did not download on the first try.

What’s New in Version 3.0:

Now for the first time you can now play “Team Doggle”, this enables you to have two teams of players that compete as a team. The words for each team are combined into a single word list for the team. Each team member is given credit for their unique words and for their words that match the other team players. The scoring is the same as before. On the results the name is shown as the “Team Name” followed by the first names of the team members.

This new feature is an option during the setup for a new game. On “Team;” toggle the “No” to a “Yes” and then you will have the two fields to enter the team names.

During the “Select Players” you will now see a box where you can select the team for that player. First select the player (number appears) and then depress the box until the correct team name appears, then select the next player following the same sequence.

If you are playing “Team Doggle” you must have at least one player on a team or the you will get an “Alert Message” stating you have not selected players for both teams.

This version also as a new algorithm to create the letters for the boards based on the percentages of letters in the dictionary. Also based on most used two letter combinations, I have added “Sc” and “Sp” as new two letter tiles.

The “Rotate” feature has been modified so that you no longer have to turn the board to view the rotated cubes. The display is now rotated 90 degrees so you have the same old look, but it stays in the portrait position.

Also, you now have three board sizes you can play the 6 x 6 board for the better players, a 5 x 5 board for beginning players and a 4 x 4 for young players. If you choose the 4 x 4 board you can also choose a word size of 2. The screen sizes will change with the board layout to give you the maximum letter size for each board. This feature is selected in the setup for a new game. There is a toggle box “Board” you can toggle to 6,5 or 4.

Also fixed an error in the Won/Lost calculation for games with more than 2 players.

Added a Game History File that saves the raw data for the game, this enables you to go back and rescore a previous game. To do this first depress the “Sub-Menu” button on the Main Menu and then depress the “Restore History Files”, depress the name of the game you want to rescore. This will also save a current game if you have one you are playing. This will also place all the score files for the game in the Pending File. Then just depress “Score the Current Game” and the game should be rescored the results added to your “Game Results” and an email will be created to send the new results to the other players. If you are encountering an error or explained results, you have the option in Restore History files to send these files to the developer to analyze the game and determine if there is an error that needs to be fixed.

The Emails that are saved are for “Doggle Invite” and “Doggle Scores” only.

Note: For the best results when you send emails within the Doggle game, for each email generated touch the “Subject Line” a bell will appear. Depress the bell and then depress “Notify Me” then an Alert will be sent to recipients phone each time a Doggle emails is received thereby eliminating the chance that one is missed by a recipient. This also allows them to immediately process the email.

New tests have been included in this version to test the integrity of the databases before a player is allowed to initiate or play a game. This will stop some of the App cancelations when playing due to data inconsistencies.

Added the ability to rotate the letters on the board 90 degrees at a time so you can view the board from different angles to better see word combinations. This is a button called “Rotate”.

Since the games are recognized solely by the game name for automated processing, you must give each game a unique name that is not currently one of the games being played or pending.

The saved emails “Pending Mail”, are automatically scanned when you request to score a game eliminating the need for you to scan your email files looking for the files from the players.

This version now will when restoring a previous game, automatically checks the current game and if it is not completed and scored the game is automatically saved so you do not lose the current game by mistake. This version will also save the current game when starting a new game if the current game is not completed and scored.

The App “Sub-Menu” contains app features that can be manually executed if the automated execution fails for any reason.

All new players to the App, now will get an automated email with a .pdf attachment with instructions on how to setup the app for play and to play a game.

This new version now allows you to save the “Current” game you are playing and then start a new game. Effectively giving you the ability to switch back and forth between games by saving the current game and then restoring a previous game. This action will save all the settings of the game including the time elapsed. Once scored, the game is then considered complete and it can no longer be saved. Before a game is restored the user is asked if they have saved the current game since will be replaced.

When you select a game to be restored, this will replace the current game so if the current game is not completed you must save that game or it will be deleted and it cannot be restored.

The new app also now detects the first time the app is opened and brings to your attention new features you should be aware of before starting the game.

The App also does more verifications that the Players Database is correct and does not have duplicate entries which can cause errors.

Automated the game scoring so after a players scores are imported and that completes the importing of all scores for that game the game is then automatically directed to "Score the Game" rather than have the game Owner have to press the "Score the Game" button.

Also fixed some other minor issues.
