play.js 2.0 was released a week ago with a redesigned experience, numerous stability improvements and a great adoption amongst developers, but the major breakthrough in the app evolution doesn’t stop there…

This new version closes a little bit more the gap between JS development and JS developer **the iOS way**. Finally you can run the scripts you define in your package.json file in a very simple and intuitive way, you’ll love it.

But that’s not all, we’ve spent some time fixing a couple of crashes, a very annoying issue switching between Git branches and also reworked some of the Node.js internals so you don’t need to use getStdout and getStdin anymore.

Enjoy!
2.0.1 2020-05-03
A small but exciting update.

First, the syntax highlighting engine has been improved and you will notice it as soon as you start scrolling through your files.

Secondly, there was a bug resolving dependency versions that broke the Vue.js and React.js project templates, this is now fixed.
2.0.0 2020-04-29
The biggest play.js update ever is finally here.

The app has been redesigned to improve your productivity, we've implemented numerous features you all were requesting and we've also pushed iOS to the limit to increase the performance and reliability of the app.

This is the full list of changes:

- New app and icon designs.
- Light and dark themes.
- Trackpad support.
- More keyboard shortcuts.
- Configurable font size and other editor settings as well as support for custom fonts.
- A much better Git support. Now you can easily see what has changed and why, it's easier to set your private keys, your commits signature can now be customised and there is a much better error handling.
- A new app documentation to fully understand the development environment.
- Custom app icons.
- Many many bug fixes.

Hope you enjoy it!

1.13.0 2019-09-19
Now play.js is much easier to use if you count with an iPad running the latest iOS version thanks to the multiple scenes support. You can create as many instances of play.js you want so you can write code while seeing another file side by side or you can launch your Web and React Native applications as if they were standalone applications.

Other than this we have fixed a couple of crashes and annoying bugs around code autocompletion.
1.12.0 2019-09-12
We've introduced a brand new syntax highlighting engine. Enjoy!

- Some syntax highlighting performance improvements.
- Hidden special characters input method when an external keyboard is being used.
- Fixed a timeout bug when resolving dependencies.

The latter has been fixed thanks to Burin, who not only reported the issue but also helped debugging it.

Big thank you to our community members sylvoie, kerryeva, tarpitgrover, aerolith and Isaac who reported these issues and helped identify them.
1.11.0 2019-08-26
We’re extremely excited to share what we’ve accomplished in this very productive summer.

We’ve rewritten the code editor from the scratch and now it counts with the following features:

- Smarter auto-indentation that now increases the indentation level if prior to a line break there’s certain characters.
- Increase and decrease the indentation level of a single or a group of lines by swiping your finger right and left over the code editor. Or you can also use the shortcuts “Cmd + [“ and “Cmd + ]”.
- Closing characters are automatically inserted after typing opening characters like quotes, brackets or parenthesis.
- Comment or uncomment a single or a group of lines by using the shortcut “Cmd + /“.
- The editor now highlights the current line, empty characters and indent guides.
- Above the keyboard you now have easy access to more special characters (also for iPad) and an easy way to dismiss the keyboard.

We’ve also added some more keyboard shortcuts that let you browse the app more effectively. These are the shortcuts we’ve added:

- “Cmd + 1” to run or stop your program.
- “Cmd + 2” to show or hide the file browser.
- “Cmd + 3” to show or hide the documentation.
- “Cmd + 4” to share your project.
- “Cmd + t” to expand or collapse the console.
- “Cmd + w” to close the current tab.
- “Cmd + left arrow” to navigate to the previous tab.
- “Cmd + right arrow” to navigate to the next tab.

Lastly, we've also found time to fix some bugs:

- Fixed date when committing changes to Git.
- Preserved the file navigator state upon closing and opening it again.
- Fixed creation of projects with files hosted outside the app directory (in-place) for devices running iOS 12.4.
- Fixed an issue opening projects with revoked read access of a directory outside the app directory (in-place).

That’s a lot but there’ll be more coming, this new code editor enable us to ship faster way more powerful features!
As this is a pretty big update, please share with us any issues you might encounter at contact@nakiostudio.com.
1.10.0 2019-07-22
You can now open projects in-place so the sources of your apps don't need to live in the app directory. In addition, all I/O operations are now done in a coordinated manner which makes other apps react nicely to changes made from play.js and vice versa.

Last but not least, we added TSX syntax highlighting and improved the in-app Web Browser.
1.9.0 2019-06-27
We're delighted to introduce a new project type: React.

This new project type is optimised for web development with webpack, Express and React.js so you can now get a web app up and running within seconds. And to make your life even easier, you can now preview your web projects with the new in-app web browser.

Other than this, we have added buttons to control the console and app preview visibility and fixed a couple of crashes.
1.8.1 2019-06-16
We've fixed a bug causing required modules being bound to the incorrect context. You might have noticed this issue logging into the console from a required file and not getting any output.
1.8.0 2019-06-09
We’ve fixed several issues that were making your life more difficult and also implemented some must-have features you all were demanding.

- You can now import any kind of file from iCloud into your project.
- Image files can now be previewed directly from the Editor.
- We’ve upgraded the embedded React Native version to 0.59.9 so you can take advantage of React Hooks and other cool features.
- The object spread operator is now supported in React Native projects too.
- We’ve fixed an issue requiring files using relative paths in React Native projects.
- You can now require local assets in React Native projects: require('./finally.png').
- react-router-native is now available as an embedded dependency.
- Node.js apps now have the right __dirname and __filename values as we’ve fixed a bug causing the working directory to be incorrectly set.
- The version of the docs shown in the app now matches the Node.js and React Native versions play.js use.
- We’ve made some accessibility improvements too.

We’d like to thank all the users that take the time to report issues on the Community, you make play.js better.
1.7.0 2019-06-02

In this release we've added Git support so you can clone, pull and push to your repositories and, most importantly, take advantage of Git's versioning control.
1.5.0 2019-04-05
We've improved how you interact with the standard input. You can now write directly in the console the messages that will be piped and the output now renders ANSI escape sequences and processes carriage return characters. Other than this we've fixed one of the most important crashes in our records.
1.4.1 2019-03-30
In this update, we've improved the performance of the new syntax highlighting engine.
