Using the Rosé theme: one ticket for Barbie, please! Using the "Extra Dark" theme: One ticket for Oppenheimer, please!

The stars from the big screen won’t be the only ones you’ll be seeing because now you can see a podcasts rating when viewing its details.

Grab your popcorn and get ready for this double feature with our new Autoplay feature! Binge-listening to your favorite podcasts has never been easier. Start listening to an episode from a playback list such as the episodes for a Podcast, or from a Filter, and when that episode finishes Pocket Casts will automagically start playing the next episode from that list if your Up Next queue is empty.

As the night wears on, a growing unease grips you, when suddenly... TWO FIGURES LEAP FROM THE TREES landing in front of you, As the two figures step into the flickering light of your torches, dread washes over you as you recognize them to be none other than the feared BugFixBear and its companion, Imp'Rovements.. We took CarPlay to the shop and gave it a complete tune-up. First, we fixed the pesky check engine light that's been blinking at us for way too long. Then, we made sure that the icons display correctly, no matter if the theme is light or dark.

We also upgraded the cassette player to a brand new MP3 player, so tapping on an episode takes you straight to the Now Playing screen. That super fun game of "twist the key just right" to refresh the UI is now a thing of the past!

We gave the Auto Add Up Next feature a boost with some overhead lifters and four barrel quads to fix an issue with some items not being auto-added. And, last but not least, we equipped CarPlay with a brand new set of tires to reduce the potential for crashes and improve overall handling and reliability.

We can't wait for you to take this upgraded machine out for a spin!

Buckle up and get ready for a smoother ride with our latest update!

When you connect to CarPlay, the Up Next Queue will consistently display at the top of your podcast list, so you can easily access your favorite shows on the go.

Also, when you're connected to AirPlay, you can sit back, relax, and let the next episode play automatically, without any interruptions.

We've added a new feature that allows logged-out users to see their Starred episodes, so you can always check your favorites, even if you're not signed in.

Last, but not least, don't let a pesky swipe action ruin your day! We've fixed an issue where the swipe actions in Up Next could be triggered when you're trying to reorder a row. Now you can move your episodes around without any accidental clicks. Happy organizing!

You should know that we’re in the kitchen cooking up some really cool stuff, and like any good chef knows you can never have enough Thyme! So, while we wait for the slow cooker to finish we’re taking some time doing the dishes before the guests arrive. I should go eat before I start making more cooking puns.
7.25 2022-10-31
Give us tricks or treats! The Halloween update is here and we extinguished some spooky bugs for you.
7.24.1 2022-10-17
Gonna have to level with you: each release is a constant struggle between adding and removing bugs, and occasionally we have to make an effort to remove more than we added. Thus I have to say with much reluctance: “Bug fixes and performance improvements”. Be at ease, though! We're on the trick or treats season and, to celebrate it, we have a new awesome icon to add a bit of spookiness to your screen!
7.23 2022-10-03
Never fear, a new feature is here! We took a poll in our virtual office about what gestures we most use on our devices and the results are in! Coming in a hot third behind shaking it out of frustration, and having to swipe back because you tapped on the wrong thing is… PULL TO REFRESH. Based on our super accurate definitely not made up scientific results we decided to add the ability to refresh your podcasts from both the podcasts and the profile screen!
7.22 2022-09-19
Has anyone else been glued to their screens watching the non-stop action between House of the Dragon and LOTR: The Rings of Power?! I feel like a kid (maybe not quite a kid, but definitely a younger version of myself) again nerding out over these. That being said, our minds were properly blown by Apple’s announcements last week so we coded our fingers off to deliver you some amazing lock screen widgets and some other bug fixes.
7.21.1 2022-09-08
One more thing... We've gone ahead and fixed an audio playback issue for you "ahead of the times" people listening with AirPods on a "future" iOS version.
7.20.2 2022-08-04
So, heh, it’s been a minute since our last release, but this was worth.the.wait. Without further ado, we're happy to announce that you spoke, and we listened. Your wish is our command; we’ve finally done it.

That’s right, we’ve fixed the bug where longer podcast names were being cut off on the podcast screen. You’re welcome. Wait… that’s the wrong line. We’ve added FOLDERS! Yes, Folders! Now you can organize your ever-growing podcast list with our brand spanking new, beautifully designed FOLDERS!

Oh, and we also fixed a ton of bugs too.

7.19.3 2022-04-01
We're working on a rather large update at the moment! While doing that we found some important performance and memory related improvements we didn't want to leave you waiting on. So here's a little care package, from us, to you.
7.19.2 2022-02-08
I'd really love to tell you what's new, but I'm not going to lie, the Wordle from the other day broke my brain so hard that I might still be sulking about it. Seeing all the people in my Twitter timeline who got it right isn't really helping if I'm honest. Community puzzle solving is all fun and games til you look like the silly pants head with silly pants on your silly head. Wait why are we here aga...oh yes! Version 7.19.2, no puzzle solving required here's what's changed!
- Fixed an issue with the discover and podcast search boxes when you entered lots of text into them
- Fixed an issue with skip first and last times where holding down on the control would change both numbers
- Improved some of the translations, we're new to this so be kind while we keep improving them based on your feedback!
- Fixed some truncation issues on the Appearance page
- Sent a Karen style email to Josh Wardle to be like "Yo, my guy, why is this so hard I think it's actually your fault" but then I woke up and realised I both don't have his email and also only have myself to blame.
- Fixed some typo's in the app, including one on the about page
- Fixed an issue where the mini player could disappear even if you were playing something
7.19.1 2021-12-21
Just like there is always an apprentice, and a master, so too there must always be a major release, followed by a bug fix release. This, dear reader, is that release. This is the way. Resistance is futile.

- Fixed a crash on Apple Watch when the language was set to Spanish, Portuguese or Chinese
- Fixed an issue where podcast groups weren't correctly sorted in languages other than English
- Added a slightly friendlier about page
- Fixed some visual issues when doing multi-select on the Up Next page
- Fixed an issue where the search box could overlap the cancel button in some cases
- Made the way our app picks what theme to use in iOS light/dark mode more obvious and tweaked the layout of this page
- Improved various translations. Thanks for all your feedback, please feel free to keep pointing out bits that don't look quite right in your language and we can fix them.
7.18.1 2021-08-11
We back kiddo's! Bigger and better (or is it badder?) than ever. Hitting you with a bug fix release just to ease back into things
- Background refresh enhancements
- Fixed some widget issues where the wrong podcast could be shown
- Fixed an accessibility issue where you couldn't close the Sleep Timer and Effects dialogs easily
- Accessibility no longer reads the podcast name for an episode when you're on the podcast page
- Fixed iOS [redacted, add the numbers 14 and 1 to get there] related crash on the podcast settings page
- Fixed an iPad related crash on our support page
- Fixed an issue with watch complications
- Improvements to image loading in CarPlay
7.16 2020-12-13
What has 4 letters, sometimes 9 letters, but never has 5 letters. And this is version 7.16, leeeettttsaa go!
- You can now configure the limit for items automatically added to Up Next and what happens when that limit is reached.
- For those of you that feel our app isn't fancy enough, we now have a Rosé theme. It's exactly as awesome as it sounds.
- We made some earmazing enhancements to our Volume Boost algorithm. It's now eartasticly eargasmic.
- Improved support for password filling and opening Pocket Casts share links.
- Fixed quite a few bugs, including some weird ones where your tab bar could disappear, never to be seen again.
7.15 2020-11-19
Some people doubted we could get past version 7.9 without making the next one 8.0. I'm here to tell you, they were all wrong. We're at 7.15 and going strong. Maths is meaningless, numbers are virtual, the universe is finitely infinite.

Stuff that changed y'all (we heard y'all love that word, and you know what, it's kinda wholesome. I'm now on board with y'all, y'all):
- There are many reasons why your listening might be interrupted for long time. An unannounced visit from an old friend. A 10-day silent meditation retreat. An unexpected holiday in maison gaol. So we now rewind a little bit when you unpause after a break, to help you remember where you were up to. You can turn this off in Settings > General > Intelligent Playback Resumption.
- Speaking of long breaks, it’s probably been a while since you made a new filter. Well, we changed the steps. Now, when you create a filter, the first thing you do is actually create the filter. Once you’ve done that, give it a name, colour, and icon, and you’re on your way!
- iOS 14 widget improvements based on your feedback. The small widget now matches the app icon and also won't take you to Discover as much.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent custom playback effects from being saved correctly.
- CarPlay icons tweak. These should now look correct on both light and dark CarPlay.
- Fixed an issue with labels being cut off in Discover when the bold accessibility setting was used.
- One person wrote us a really cool email about being able to tap to dismiss iPad episode cards. You can now tap the background to dismiss them.
- Fixed an issue where the heading of a podcast page could be transparent and your words would scroll under it War Stars style.
- Improved private feed support.
- Fixed some Siri Shortcuts related issues
7.14 2020-10-22
One thing, to me, has stood out clearer than anything else in the decade or so we've been building this app. Y'all have opinions and preferences and love tweaking things. I've also realised I hate the word "y'all" but that literally only just happened, so let's put a pin in that and circle back, shall we? Version 7.14 brings you that sweet, sweet configuration and control you crave!

- You can now choose how aggressive you want your silence trimming to be:
- Mild? That's how I like it.
- Medium? I guess I'll allow it, or...
- Mad Max? Yeah I get it, witness you all shiny and chrome blazing a trail through your podcasts in record time. On average that setting can easily shave 10% off how long it takes to listen to a podcast...but beware. No power like this can be free.

- Fixed an issue that prevented some Siri Shortcuts from running properly
7.13 2020-10-18
Version 7.13, unlucky for some but perfect for Spooktober! Not that we really understand your obsession with that here down under, but more power to you our northern cousins! This release brings:

- Brand new shiny iOS 14 widgets! Yes you've been asking for them and now they are here. Use the small one instead of the app icon. Put the medium one on that fancy new widget home page you're making or just SLAP THAT GIANT ONE on your main home screen like a Pocket Casts tattoo. Loud and proud!
- Improved iOS 14 CarPlay including some great Now Playing changes like chapter support, a mark as played button and being able to open the podcast straight from the player.
- Fixed some performance issues when opening the Up Next list with more than 200 episodes in it. We still don't know how you're going to get through 200+ episodes, but whatever floats Jeremy's boat.
- Speaking of Jeremy: Added the ability to tap on the podcast/chapter artwork to zoom in on it. Just in time to have missed the 2020 Jeremy's.
- Various other fixes and improvements including pulling down episode cards being a bit wonky in the last update.
7.12 2020-10-06
Version 7.12 expands on the multi-select support you all seem to love, with even more enhancements:
- We heard from a lot of you that you wanted to be able to do the reverse of some of the new actions we gave you. So now you can perform actions like un-star, un-archive, mark as unplayed and removing downloads. That's right, it's opposite day!
- Multi-select now works for episodes in your custom files section
- You can now re-arrange multi-select actions for Up Next
- Fixed some issues with multi-select ordering when adding to things like Up Next
- Improved iOS 14 support. For all those asking, yes a widget is coming soon! We're almost done putting the final few touches on it.
- Duration filtering in an Episode filter can now be set as low as 1 minute
- Fixed the Up Next drag handle not being visible on iOS 12 and below
- Fixed an issue where "Remote Skips Chapters" wouldn't work in some cases like CarPlay and the lock screen when turned on
- Fixed some issues with text getting cut off on the Apple Watch
- Fixed an issue with some podcasts not having their MP3 chapters recognised properly
- Improved the CarPlay interface for you fancy iOS 14 people.
- Lots of other small fixes that are too overnumerous to mention. That's right, I too like Moss have won the coveted countdown teapot and am a fan of tiny biscuits.
7.11 2020-08-07
You're all expecting it, we know. 7.11 is a pretty damn funny version number, no doubt about it. But you know what, for once we're going to go with something a little different and let you make the jokes. Tweet us your best ones!

Oh you probably also want to know what's new? Well, you see, Goldilocks was complaining to us about her commute, that her New Releases filter was filled with episodes that were always either too long, or too short! We couldn’t bear to listen to this story any longer, so we added the ability to filter by duration. In any Episode Filter, tap the “Duration” chip to start limiting by length.

And while you’re there, add even more precision by sorting your filter so that the shortest (or longest), or newest (or oldest) episodes appear at the top (or bottom). It’s up (or down) to you!

I know what you're thinking, it's this kind of innovative, transformative, downright punny thinking that is going to win us some awards. Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence 2020 here we come!
7.9.1 2020-06-29
Thanks for all your feedback on the 7.9 release, today we have some smol changes to share:
- Fixed a number of issues where when playing podcasts on your phone, the watch app might not load to the now playing page
- Fixed an issue where the watch app might show the wrong dates in an episode list
- Fixed an issue with the Radioactive theme interfering with iPad trackpad scrolling
- Download page now shows download icons to match the rest of the watch app
- Fixed an issue with the play/pause buttons being different sizes in the watch app
- Various other small fixes and tweaks that are really hard to type into this little box while still making any sense
7.9 2020-06-16
Well well well, what have we here...a major feature update.

Highlights:
- We’ve added four new app icons, so you can get closer to that perfect match of icons and background on your home screen. Or maybe you just want one for every day of the week.
- For Pocket Casts Plus subscribers, our watch app is now strong enough to stand on its own. That's right, download for offline playback, or just straight up stream episodes from your cellular/WiFi connected watch. I'm sure you'll all aspire to use this while "jogging", which if you're like me really means "walking, not even that briskly, honestly".
- New theme: Radioactivity. Have you been pleading for a pipboy? Do you go ga-ga for a geiger counter? Craving a cathode ray? This theme's for you. Yes, we did go a bit OTT, but it's worth it. Pocket Casts Plus only because those are the most OTT people we know. Respect.
- Added clear button to search on podcast grid/list and discover pages
- Much improved Trim Silence algorithm. Let's pretend it wasn't stuck on max because of a bug, shall we?
- Accessibility improvements
- Fixed an issue that could cause the Now Playing info (that goes to Bluetooth and other devices) to not be set
- Implemented our own Google Cast dialogs because the ones they provide really aren't up to par
- Performance improvements in all sorts of weird and wonderful places
7.8.6 2020-05-15
Small bug fix release to fix issues with playback position syncing across devices. Thanks to everyone who helped us track this down.
7.8.5 2020-04-19
One more fixey fixey release before we roll out new featuey featies. No you've spent too long working from home! Wilson says I need to tell you what's...YES I'M DOING THAT NOW WIL...YES...SHUT UP SHUT UUUUUP!

- Improved support for iPad when used with a pointing device or track pad
- Fixed a crash that could occur when using the accessibility rotor action to archive an episode
- Fixed the progress indicator on our mini player not working properly for custom episodes
- Fixed a subscribe link issue that affected feed URLs that had additional parameters in them
- Fixed an issue where sometimes pressing play for content being sent to a HomePod or other Airplay 2 device might require multiple taps to make it actually play
7.8.4 2020-03-30
Some more quality of life improvements coming to you from Pocket Casts HQ. Live and hot! Or is that live and strong! Or maybe live and UNFILTERED!

- Improved the way swiping to archive works in various lists. This should now be faster and easier.
- Fixed an issue where if you left the show notes page up and left the app, it could appear blank when you come back
- Improved accessibility of the search element on the podcast list page
- Fixed an issue with accessibility where swiping through podcasts could cause VoiceOver to read them twice
- Tweaked some of our Siri actions
- Fixed an issue where if you set the Skip Last setting on a podcast, and chose the "End of Episode" sleep timer option the app would ignore your sleep timer
- Fixed a few rare (but important) crashes
- Fixed an issue where after seeking the progress indicator for a podcast could stop moving
- Increased social distancing by 2000%
- I think I'm still sane, but I lack my office co-workers to check on that fact, so it's been moved from "certain" to "unconfirmed".
7.8.3 2020-03-04
I swear to Zeus I'm never touching chapter code again. It started so innocently "Hi we are friendly Germans and we notice this one podcast doesn't show chapters in your app" and well, it all went south from there. That said, it does feel good to fix things, so we fixed some more chapter related stuff.
7.8.2 2020-02-28
Fixes a playback related crash that slipped through in 7.8.1. There's a sports joke in here somewhere, I just know it.

7.8 2020-02-06
After every major release, we do lots of big and small updates that increase the version number. It's all fun and games when you're at 7.1 and 7.2, but as you get to 7.8 you just know you're going to have to either do the weird 7.10 thing, or break your convention and go for 7.9.9.9.9.9.1 to avoid going to 8. This release gets us one closer to that, and also fixes a whole bunch of weird and wonderful bugs. Release numbers are just plain weird, let's be honest.

Oh and a shout out to our BMW owning friends. I'm going to be kind to you all and make 0 jokes about your car choice, except maybe by taking a slight dig at you with our new setting:
General -> Legacy Bluetooth Support is something you'll want to turn on if you're having issues with the app pausing in your car. It's ok, "legacy" sounds like "classy" so same, same right?
7.7 2020-01-23
This release introduces some new discover section features, such as podcast collections. This is a little bit of a tease because you won't immediately get new ones but when you do we think you'll like them.

We also fixed some bugs you nice people reported to us and improved a few things here and there.
7.6.1 2020-01-01
Every great movie, needs a sequel. How else are you going to cash in on the amazing characters and storylines you've developed without bothering to make a brand new world from scratch? Welcome to our 7.6 sequel. We've named it 7.6.1 which we think you'll get a kick out of!

- Accessibility fixes for various controls in the player
- Fixed possible crash when long pressing in the Profile -> Downloads Section
- Fixed incorrect podcasts being queued sometimes in Profile -> Downloads long press, Play all from here.
- Fixed an issue that could cause your notification settings to not be saved to the server
- Fixed a few bits of UI rotating when they weren't meant to. Cheeky little buggers!
- Fixed a typo in the player tour. Fixed a typo in the player tour. Fixed a typo in the player tour. Get it?! These are not 3 separate fixes ;)
- Fixed some other crashes and minor UI issues

Happy new year by the way! I was going to make a whole bunch of jokes around vision and 20 20, maybe even some see you next decade material, but I've spared you all of that. You're welcome!
7.6 2019-12-20
We were tempted to call this version "Stuff what youse allses did ask for" but apparently that's not as good as "7.6". So this is version 7.6. With stuff what youses allses did ask for. I don't make the rules I just write the notes.

Features include:
- A brand new free theme, Indigo. To help you understand it, let's describe it like one would a fine wine: Rich blue elements are paired with off-white backgrounds, reducing eye fatigue and enhancing tactility.
- Up Next is now more accessible, on its own page you can now access from the button on the mini player, the button on the player or by swiping up. There's new multi-select actions as well to help you manage it harder than you've ever managed it before.
- The Now Playing screen has had a facelift based on all your feedback. You can now swipe right over to notes and there's a configurable toolbar so you can put your favourite actions right on the player page!
- We've also done lots of small things, like adding sort by episode length to the podcast page.

There's the usual raft of bug fixes and performance improvements too, but we hope by now you're used to those being part of every release. Ok everyone, don't forget to like and subscribe, and I'll see you all...oh...this isn't my [name of streaming service redacted] channel? Maybe just leave us a nice review in the store if you feel so inclined? They make us all warm and fuzzy, and we all need warmth and fuzz from time to time, no?
7.5.4 2019-11-10
Fixes an issue where CarPlay would say that it can't connect to Pocket Casts. Thanks to everyone who helped us track this one down. I appreciate you all so much that I'd like to write you a poem. Alas, I suck at poetry and I'm also in a hurry, so please accept this joke in its stead:

Two girls walk into a bar. You'd think at least one of them would have seen it.

....BADUM TSSSSS...

Also cheers to everyone who said they still read our release notes! It makes me so happy to know that I now have hundreds of extra people I can be nervous about letting down! Don't worry, the queue is long but the refreshments are amazing.
7.5.3 2019-10-29
As we continue to work on our new feature update (v7.6) we bring you another point update to address some issues we've been working with you all on:
- improved syncing, especially in cases where people were seeing old archived episodes come back
- fixes an issue that could cause your custom files to be duplicated
- improved chapter support when streaming custom files
- various other improvements and fixes

I always vowed to never write "various bug fixes and improvements" as a release note, so I got a little chuckle from that last bullet point. I hope someone still reads these things ;)
7.5.2 2019-10-15
New versions aren't quite like opening presents, but we hope you at least get a partial dopamine hit reading the following:
- Dark Mode support! You asked for it, we delivered! Actually we'd already written it and were waiting for [redacted dev tool name] to stabilise before we shipped it, but why split hairs!
- You can now clear your listening history. No judgement here, wipe that slate clean if you need to!
- Added a new podcast grouping option: group by starred. If you want to see starred episodes at the top of your podcast this ones for you.
- Lots of small bug fixes and improvements
7.5.1 2019-09-26
Welcome to everyone who's new to our release notes and also of course to those of you that have been around for a while. This time around they are 33% less funny, but 62.74646% more accurate. Trust me on this one I've done the maths. Yes it's 'maths' here in Australia. We write it on our coloured Aluminium Synchronised Kangaroos so it's hard to forget.

- Improved the reliability of syncing between iOS devices
- Fixed various small theming issues
- Fixed an issue where your chapter info could get shown on top of the episode name. Efficient, but it looked kinda odd.
- Fixed a few iPhone SE sized issues. Mad respect for those of you still rocking those tiny little phones.
- Fixes an issue where the files section would show a full file upload progress even though nothing was being uploaded
- Fixes the -37 years issue. As some of you know we made a last minute change here in terms of how Plus memberships work, but the version we'd submitted many weeks before that didn't support the display of it
- Fixed a few other crashes and issues reported to us
7.5 2019-09-19
If you love something, set it free, or so the saying goes. Pocket Casts has been a paid app since 2010 when it first launched. Back then we had a small company to run and people's families literally depended on us charging for our app. It was a business model that worked well in terms of paying the bills, but always caused confusion with our customers. "Do I have to pay again if I switch from a robot phone to a fruit based one?", "Why is the app paid?", "How can I recommend this to friends when it will require them to pay?".

Today, things are different. We have the backing of some amazing partners, all of whom come from, and firmly believe in, an open access model. For a while now we've felt that charging for the app conflicted with their core values of being open and available to everyone. Clearly we had to do something about it, and so in the spirit of Shifty Jelly of yore, we did. After many months of hard work, we introduce you to version 7.5!

If you want a detailed write up on everything that's changing and why it's changing please visit our blog (blog.pocketcasts.com). We'd love to share some highlights on here though:
- The app is now completely free, and every feature previously available in the paid version is still available in the free version.
- We've introduced a completely optional premium tier: Pocket Casts Plus. Among other benefits, Plus members get exclusive access to new themes and icons.
- You can now import your own audio files into Pocket Casts and listen to them sped up and with silences removed. Plus members can also upload these files to the cloud so they are available on all your devices.
- Improved account control. You can now do things like change your email and password inside the app, without having to go to the web.
- Performance enhancements and fixes. We spent a large part of this release focussing on performance and usability, tweaking and honing the app to make it our most refined release yet.

We hope you'll join us on this next stage of our journey. To all of you who haven't told a friend about us because our app was paid, now's your chance!
7.4 2019-07-22
What's with all the apps getting hip version numbers now? 2019.4?! I get it, it's the fourth 2019 build but you just know regular people are going to confuse the 4 for April, so I give this new system one star out of five. Bucking the trend and bringing you 7.4 (sorry to those of you that think this came from 7AD and is suuuuuper old now)
- Added keyboard shortcuts for iPad. Zip around the UI. Play, pause, skip and more. Let your fingers do the talking!
- More improvements to syncing, especially for those that play podcasts they aren't subscribed to. We get it, commitment is scary.
- Fixed an issue that could cause your Up Next list to be cleared (thanks to the beta testers who helped us find this)
- Fixed an issue that could cause you to not be able to subscribe to a podcast. Goes with the issue above really, no excuses anymore.
- Fixed re-arrange controls being missing in Up Next for a certain redacted, yet public, shall we say fruity beta OS
- Full screen video player now hides the status bar like it should
- Other small (and large but hard to describe) improvements, as always!
7.3.2 2019-06-24
Shiny new versions with shiny new things. Who doesn't love that? Sit down Gary, we know you don't just chill a little.
- Improved accessibility
- Fixed some issues with syncing episode progress
- App now applies auto-archive limit settings sooner than the next time it refreshes
- Play all now warns you about clearing your Up Next list
- Fixed an issue where sorting oldest -> newest and grouping by seasons would still leave the latest season at the top
- Fixed a visual issue when pulling down on the full screen player
- Fixed an issue that could cause podcasts you'd subscribed to on other devices not to be added during a sync
- Fixed an issue that could cause items in your listening history to be duplicated
- Fixed an issue where episode durations might not be updated properly

We also fixed some things too mundane or long to list up there. It's fixes all the way down, as the kids say. No Gary, you're not a kid, put your hand down. For Zeus sakes. Why can't you be more like Jenny?
7.3.1 2019-05-16
- Fixes a crash related to resuming the app to the player page (long story, but thanks to the beta testers who helped us track this one down!)
- Fixes an issue with using the older format of our subscribe links to get to a podcast
- Improved grammar by 33%. Your welcome
7.3 2019-05-13
Why are we always chasing the new? Can't we just live in the now? Why is it always what will be, not what is? I don't actually have the answer to your existential struggle, I'm sorry. I do have some change notes though!
- Added chapter progress UI to the player. You can now see how far into a chapter you are and how long there is to go.
- Added ability to group podcasts by play status, download status or into seasons. The seasons grouping is particular nifty though it does require the podcast author to support it. Quite a few do though, check out shows like Serial and Startup for example.
- Added some new Siri actions to extend your sleep timer, play all in a filter and open a filter.
- CarPlay now shows archived episodes if the app is configured to show archived episodes.
- Added an option to allow you to single tap an episode in Up Next to play it straight away.
- Added support for 2 line episode titles, making it easier to tell in lists what an episode is about.
- Added Download All option for podcasts and filters.
- Added a workaround for a truly bizarre bug affecting some car stereos (covered on Reply All and 99% Invisible). If you're a 99% Invisible fan you should now be able to listen over bluetooth in your car without fearing that it might freak out on you.
- Lots of fixes and performance enhancements including (but not limited to) syncing, playback, Siri actions, lists and crashes.
7.2.3 2019-03-15
Quick crash fix update, but don't worry, we'll have some new features for you all in the upcoming 7.3 release.
7.2.2 2019-03-07
I've noticed other developers don't bother to tell you what's changed. Why can't I, just once, just this one time, just write "Bug fixes and enhancements" in this little box? You'd let me have one right?

I mean I spent 2 days fighting with a stupid search box to get it to scroll up a page, but I'm not entirely sure that's release notes worthy is it? Nor is staring at crash logs until my eyes hurt trying to figure out exactly why line 0 EXC_BAD_ACCESS'd. I mean it's not the bad old days of BADIMPLEMENTSREFINCOMPATLIB but we're not far off Large Fruity Company, we're not far off.

All of which is to say, we fixed some things. You might notice, you might not, but by golly v7.2.2 is better than 7.2.1. My name's [redacted] and I endorse these release notes.
7.2.1 2019-02-25
This release we took some time out to track down and fix some long standing playback issues we've had. So if you've had Pocket Casts not resume after a phone call, or occasionally go back up to 30 seconds after an interruption, this release is for you. For the rest of you we've made the app start faster and sanded back a few other rough edges. Overall version 7.2.1 is the best Pocket Casts yet! And we think...you're going to love it.
7.2 2019-02-12
2...2...7...2. Ever wondered why sound people can't think of more interesting things to test mics with? Why not Peter Parker Picked A Pack Of Oh Man Spiderman Doesn't Start With A P? Beats me. Version 7.2 is here to clear up all that confusion and much much more:
- Added per podcast episode limits. If you have a pesky hourly or daily podcast you're struggling to keep up with, lay your burden at Pocket Casts feet and we'll take care of it. Appreciate all your feedback on this issue!
- Fixed an issue with the Apple Watch Now Playing screen not showing a skip back button.
- Added a setting for the default Up Next swipe, so now you can be the master of if play next or play last is best. Play next fo lyfe tho.
- Fixed quite a few other small things, including some lists getting cut off by the evil that is the mini player.
7.1.1 2019-02-04
2019 came at us so fast. New year, new resolutions, new addiction to chocolat...wait that might have just been me. Well Pocket Casts wants in on that new action too! 7.1.1 might not be as catchy as 2019, but it does feel good to say really fast. No really. Try it!

What's new?
- Added CarPlay actions for Mark as Played and Star (you can turn these on in Settings -> Playback -> Extra Playback Actions)
- Added some more polish to the podcast page and sped up both viewing new podcasts and unsubscribing from old ones
- Fixed some more iPhone SE issues, tiny phone love is real!
- Added swipe to close for video player, as well as it automatically going full screen when you rotate your phone
- Fixed the Keep Screen Awake setting occasionally not, well you know, keeping the screen awake
- Fixed an issue where episodes could be marked as in progress when they actually aren't
- Changed the look of archived episodes based on your feedback
- Various other performance enhancements and fixes
7.1 2018-12-13
With the holiday season fast approaching, Pocket Santa always delivers the good. He Casts them at you with a sprinkling of terrible puns:
Santa's highlight reel:
- Added per podcast auto-archive settings to help people manage shows that release a lot of episodes
- Added progress indicator to Apple Watch Now Playing page, tap the title to toggle it on
- Added support for the new watchOS 5 complication styles
- Added long press play all and archive all options to the Downloads page
- Added unsubscribe button to the podcast settings page (you can also tap the subscribed tick on the podcast page to do the same)
- Added a long press option to the skip forward button in the player, for those that quickly want to move to the next episode
- Added a refresh button to the profile page, as well as displaying when your last refresh was
- Tap artwork on the player page to quickly view episode info
- Added release date and season info to items in your Up Next list on the player page

Santa's Elf Related Fixes (SERF for short):
- various crash fixes and performance improvements
- Fixed an issue where you couldn't sort Up Next items above/below the height of your screen
- Improved performance of the Up Next list in the player when you have hundreds of items
- Updated the Profile tab so that the header scrolls with the rest of the table
- Various iPad fixes. It's not water proof though, so still don't use it for SERFing (sorry)
- Fixed an issue that could cause the Inactive sync option not to work properly
- The list version of the podcast grid now works with accessibility
- Changed "Now Playing" to "Playing" in the Apple Watch app so it doesn't take 3 seconds for the time to appear on smaller watches
- Fixed a Chromecast issue that could cause your progress to get reset to 0 when you stop casting
- Fixed an issue that could cause the app to not get new episodes of some shows
- There's many more fixes and improvements that are just too long to list in these update notes. Rest assured though that Santa treats his elves with respect, especially now the little blighters have unionised. None of them were harmed in the making of this update, but if they were all the correct health and safety regulations were followed!
7.0.2 2018-11-30
Thanks for all your great feedback around version 7, we're super excited to keep moving things forward just like we have been for the last 8 years. What a ride! Today on the roller coaster of fun we have:
- changed the 'Unplayed' badge on the podcast grid page to be 'Unfinished' instead, since a lot of you said you'd still like to see a badge if you're half way through something
- fixed some issues with the network images in the Discover section
- fixed an issue where your tab bar could go walkabout and not come back (thanks to those of you that helped us track this one down!)
- added an 'Unarchive All' option that appears when all the episodes in a podcast have been archived
- added an 'Archive all played' option to give you a quick way to move all your old played episodes in a podcast straight to the archive
- added an indicator to rows to show if an episode is in your Up Next list
- fixed some issues with our Siri Shortcuts
- fixed an issue where re-ordering the filters didn't always stick
- improve cross device/platform syncing
- improved performance throughout the app and fixed some crashes reported to us
7.0.1 2018-11-20
After every major release has to come the bugs/fixes update, right? No matter how long you beta test a few things always slip through. The marvellously named 7.0.1 is no different:
- Fixes an issue where the Discover page could be blank in some regions of the world.
- Fixed some iPhone SE issues with text getting cut off and buttons not being in quite the right places. We love you tiny phone people. Never change.
- Fixed some issues with syncing.
- Updated the search on both the Podcast and Discover pages to scroll away when you scroll the page up. The Podcast one is also now hidden by default, but easy to get to by just pulling down.
- Fixed some issues with the app badge counting too many episodes.
- Fixed some issues with the video player when moving to the next thing in your Up Next list.
- Fixes some crashes too.
- Added better handling for when a podcast doesn't load in the Discover section.
- Fixed some CarPlay crashes as well as archived episodes showing up in the podcasts section
- Player now shows chapter info as you scrub the timeline (for episodes that have chapters)

[Posh British accent] "Pocket Casts 7 is a truly wonderful re-imaging of what a podcast application should be. Every surface. Every touch point. Every detail has been milled to unbelievably precise tolerances. The chamfered aluminium gives way to...

There's a tonne of other small and large improvements in version 7 of Pocket Casts. This is just the beginning of the next phase of our journey though. We have so many exciting things in the works and we can't wait to share them with you in the future. In the meantime though, grab a hot beverage, sit back, relax, and explore the new Pocket Casts. We think...you're going to love it.
6.9.8 2018-07-25
Just like another episode of House MD, we bring you another release where we tried to figure out an issue, figured out it wasn't Lupus and almost killed the patient but then saved their lives. SORRY SPOILERS!
- Fixes an issue with automatic download and WiFi vs Cellular (or 'mobile' as we call it here in Australia. Maaaaaaaaate.) usage. Thanks to the people who gave us the details needed to find this one!
- Fixes some other issues we found along the way as well
6.9.7 2018-06-27
You know we try incredibly hard to have bug free releases, but inevitably small things still get through. This update fixes a bug that can occur when you first subscribe to a new podcast. That's literally all it fixes and yet here we are in the release notes section, you and I. Me writing this. You reading this. What a truly small world this is. Be excellent to each other.
6.9.6 2018-06-25
There's something really catchy about a version number like 6.9.6, I don't think we're going to see a release version as majestic as this until build 7.4.7. But what's new you ask?
- Fixed an issue with Chromecast discovery (especially when you have them in groups).
- Fixed an issue where Siri could pause playback in our app but not resume it.
- Introduced a separate setting for choosing whether to use cell data when auto downloading vs being warned about using cell data in everyday use of the app.
- Fixes for some people who had sync data too large to, well, sync.
- Ensured that the app never fakes the funk on a nasty dunk.
- The app now looks for changes to episode URLs more often, which should fix some download issues.
6.9.5 2018-03-15
How many builds must an app go down, before it's considered an app? I know, I know, it's an age old question. Sadly we've yet to answer it except to say: "Welcome to the app condition my friends":
- Fixed the watch app having an outdated Now Playing screen in some circumstances
- Fixed issues with chromecasting
- Fixed some crash issues
- Ran out of funny things to say
- Well not really, did you really think I'd really ever really do that? Let's get real, like really real people. For real. Real talk. Real time. Real soon.
6.9.4 2018-02-08
We've been busy beavering away on a major new update, but in the meantime we didn't want you feeling all neglected and sad, so here's some cool new things:
- App now supports variable speed playback when Chromecasting. Youcannowlistentopodcastlikethisandohmywe'vemadethisjokeafewtimesnow. Alternatively 0.5x is hilarious if you want your podcasters to sound a bit tipsy.
- Fixed those pesky Now Playing paging dots being in the wrong spot on some phones
- Ireland added to the Discover section. I'd make a joke here, but it would probably be culturally insensitive. Let's just go with: yay!
- WatchOS target changed to v3, so if you still have iOS 10 you can use our watch app again.
- Lots of other invisible tweaks and fixes which excites me, but probably not you.
6.9.3 2017-11-01
Version 6.9.3 Fixes layout issues with iOS 10 and the podcast and now playing pages.

In case you missed it, version 6.9.2:
- Added episode details to the Apple Watch app so you can read about an episode before playing it (or force touch to star, mark as played, play next or play last).
- Apple Watch app now shows playback progress.
- Added force touch chapter buttons to the Apple Watch Now Playing page. You're welcome.
- There's a phone which we're not allowed to name launching, and in theory this version supports that phone. We have no further comment at this time.
- Fixes a Google Cast crash when casting to a group of audio devices.
- Podcast images now load faster than ever before. As part of this change the app will need to clear out your current artwork. It will only do that once, and should reload it when it needs it.
- Various other enhancements and fixes.
6.9.2 2017-10-27
Version 6.9.2 is 0.0.1 better than 6.9.1. At this point I'm not entirely sure you need more information than that, but here goes:
6.9.1 2017-09-15
Ever wondered just how much we can cram into a 0.0.1 update? Well wonder no more! 6.9.1 brings:
- Show notes that update themselves. So when the author changes them, you'll get the new ones.
- Alternate icons! We know how much you all love customisation so you now have 4 icons to choose from that match your wallpaper and mood.
- Auto add to Up Next improvements: you can now add to the top of your list (as well as the bottom if you choose).
- Lots of performance enhancements.
- Watch app now goes to the Now Playing page when you tap on an episode to play it.
- Added an option to open the player whenever you hit play (found in Settings -> Playback).
- Chromecast fixes.
- The answer to why the chicken crossed the road. Be warned that it's deeply shocking, involves free will vs destiny and may in fact make you question everything you think you know about life.
- Dutch flag is now orientated the right way (oopsy daisy, Hup Holland Hup).
- Playback fixes and enhancements.

So yeah, you really can get a lot in a tiny version change. Take that numbering systems!
6.9 2017-07-25
There is nothing at all unusual about this version number, and if you're giggling right now you really need to grow up. Version 6.9 features:
- Sonos support! Currently in beta, so keep that in mind, but you can now add Pocket Casts as a music service through the Sonos app. For more information check out the news update on our website.
- Sorting of podcasts on the grid page now ignores 'the' for sorting purposes. You've emailed us. You've tweeted at us. You've petitioned various government agencies, and now, we've finally relented. You're welcome.
- Added more countries to the discovery section. We plan to add a few more in soon so please don't get mad and point out yours isn't currently in the list :)
- Fixed an issue where if you play a podcast to the end, then try to play it again it could immediately finish
- Fixed an issue where the number of extra episodes listed on the mini player up next list could be a weird number. Also a few other issues relating to the Up Next list.
6.8 2017-07-04
Version 6.8 comes in hot, like a wrecki...you know what? Everyone is trying to be funny in release notes these days. That was meant to be our thing people! We did it back i 2008 before it was cool. So just to keep being different these release notes are going to be super serious:
- Apple Watch app! See what's playing and control playback. Check out your Up Next list and pick a new episode to play or just browse one of your filters and find an episode that takes your fancy. One tap and it starts playing on your phone. Like a remote control, but better, because it's strapped to your wrist you'll never lose it down a cou...oh sorry no jokes. It's good because it's on your wrist and always hand...I mean available.
- The app now tries harder to update episode data that authors have mis-labelled. Should fix things like files that say they are audio but are really videos. That's right, there are video podcasts where you get to be all up close and...sorry almost made another joke.
- CarPlay fixes. We unfortunately had to move back from a tabbed interface to a list based one. I preferred the tabs, but they are unfortunately buggy and cause connection issues. Your podcast list is now sorted the same as your phone and your Up Next list now also includes the currently playing episode in it. It's the best CarPlay version yet, and we think, you'll love i...sorry did it again.

There's also some bug fixes too. What do those big companies say..."Bug fixes and improvements". There you go. Can't get more serious than that.
6.7.1 2017-05-12
The more geeky among you probably know that companies like Intel used to have a 'tick tock' strategy, which was just a silly way to say they make lots of changes, then they make small tweaks, then they make lots of cha...well you get the idea. We do that too! So 6.7.1 brings you:
- CarPlay reliability improvements (for those seeing the disconnected from Pocket Casts message)
- Fixes for some files that wouldn't play with Trim Silence or Volume Boost enabled
- Some performance improvements and crash fixes

What could the next tick bring? Only...wait for it..._time_ will tell. Get it?! Because clocks go tick and they tell ti...never mind.
6.7 2017-05-08
Ever wondered about how we ended up with software version numbers? Or version numbers at all? Developers are weird and in completely unrelated news version 6.7 is here! Standout features:
- Faster streaming (especially in streaming start times)
- Completely overhauled CarPlay interface including easier access to your top Episode Filter, Up Next list and much more
- Various bug/crash fixes and small layout tweaks

Well that's the major stuff. I've always wanted to paste in the entire list of thing I changed just so you know how much I've done, but then we'd end up with stuff like this:
- Replaced M_PI with Double.Pi to shut the compiler up
- Turned whole module optimisation back on for this build, who knows it might actually work now?
- Turned whole module optimsation back off...I'm going to guess this won't ever work properly

I KNOW, RIVETING RIGHT?! See you all next time.
