Polar Scope Align Pro Watch Description
Apart from the most reliable app for polar alignment (with or without a polar scope), PS Align pro has become the astronomer's swiss-army knife with all the tools added over the years. Remember, all features & updates are free forever, the only in-app purchases are donations (tip jar).

Polar Scope Align will calculate the position of Polaris or σ Octantis in your Polar Scope reticle for your location (using your phone's GPS or manually), allowing a quick and accurate polar alignment. It is one of the few programs that are accurate in lower latitudes by correcting for atmospheric refraction (so expect results to agree only with precise software and not most simplistic "polar align" apps - see the "Accuracy" section in help for details). In the settings you can select the polar scope reticle that matches your own, from a vast collection:
iOptron old & new, Astro-Physics RAPAS & PASILL, various versions of Takahashi EM-10/11/200/400/500, NJP, PM-1, P2-Z, the latest Orion / Skywatcher, the Classic Skywatcher / Orion / Celestron / Meade / EXOS2 / Bresser, the Telrad, Rigel QuikFinder, a couple for Astrotrac / Losmandy / Kenko / Avalon, the Vixen PF-L/Atlux/SX/SXD/SXP/AXD/GP/GP-DX/Polarie Polar Axis Scopes, a Konus and several Polar Finders: Tuthill, Explore Scientific 8x50, Meade 9x60, Vixen Polaris, Celestron 7x50, Carton Optical. PoleMaster help view for South Hemisphere users.

The Pro Watch version has all the features of Polar Scope Align Pro, with the addition of an Apple Watch app featuring:
-Graphic & Text display of polar alignment.
-Weather view.
-Bubble level.
-Day alignment & push/hop-to assist.
-Moon/Sun rise/set/twilight/phase.

Feature list:

-Accurate calculation of Polaris or Sigma Oct for any date and location, including effect of atmospheric refraction (and annual aberration, nutation). Most other apps do not perform precision calculations, so please only compare app readings to accurate sources (USNO etc).
-Use device time/date/location, or enter your own, or pick from online & offline world databases via the Location Manager.
-Approximate daytime / no polarscope polar alignment tool. Great for visual use, solar imaging (inc. eclipses) and even limited short focal length astrophotography. Now with sun shadow calibration for more accuracy!
-Laser / Hop Align for nighttime alignment using a calibration star for obstructed or not visible polar star, or for improving laser align.
-Full app in red-color (or alternative green, white) night mode - tools switchable to daytime view.
-Deep Space Object (DSO) Database with 22000+ objects from several catalogs (Messier, Caldwell, NGC, IC, Herschell 400, Sharpless 2, Barnard), along with stars (Yale Bright Star) & planets. Search, apply filters, sorting, download DSS color images for all items, or get help finding them with your non-goto telescope with the Push-To function.
-Connect to and control WiFi-enabled iOptron mounts.
-Over 30 calculators useful for observing and astrophotography, from eyepiece magnification and field of view, to imaging res and reducers.
-World astro-weather report based on multiple sources.
-Solar Eclipse Calculator/Simulator.
-Water vapor satellite images.
-List of visible ISS and bright satellite passes.
-Moon phase & lunar Calendar with solar/lunar rise/set and twilight times.
-Wizard to calculate your reticle centering offset and correct or compensate for it.
-Zoomable reticle view and customized routines & tools: Alt-az alignment error display for mounts that calculate it after alignment (e.g. iOptron iEQ45, CEM60), polar alignment when your scope is not in zero position (for mounts like iOptron CEM on which you can always access the polar scope), remember zero position on Celestron / Skywatcher / Orion etc reticles.
-Bubble level (using either gyro or accelerometer) and Compass heading, as well as magnetic declination reading.
-GPS accuracy & elevation data.
-Red/White/LED light.
-Dimming slider.
-iOptron, NexStar, Meade LX200 Star Lists.

3.9 2018-03-27
Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, but gets few ratings for that reason. Please do take a moment to rate new versions which bring more features, as the ratings reset. There is a link to ratings in the settings page if it helps.
What's new:

-US-based server for Xasteria's main weather service (7Timer), the app will no longer rely on a 3rd party server, which should make it quite reliable. The prediction quality is the same of course - good, but no forecast is close to perfect!
-The NOAA water vapor listing in Xasteria got an update, as there was a satellite replacement (GOES-13 retired/replaced with GOES-16).
-Clicking on the date or sun/moon rise/set times in the Xasteria results table launches the calendar on the clicked date.
-Polar scope reticle centering wizard now has a manual setting tool for mounts whose polar scope does not rotate with the RA axis.
-Fixed behavior of "sort by distance to me" button in DSO DB.
-Bubble level has a more clear indication that you are "level".
-To avoid confusion, the daytime alignment tool selects the target celestial pole by hemisphere instead of where you are pointing to.
-Help improvements and quick intro screens when first launching the app and on first visit to the settings.
-Some reticles get a margin when used in the Southern Hemisphere, to allow things like offset display.
3.8 2018-01-19
Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, but please do take a moment to rate new versions which bring more features, as the star rating resets. There is a link to ratings in the settings page if it helps.
What's new:

- Added rise/set times of objects in DSODB.
- Fixed superimposed Select/Cancel buttons.
- Fixed disappearing copy popup in help.
3.7 2017-12-11
Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, so it doesn't usually get many ratings, but some users did take the time to leave a rating/review and I thank them. If you can also rate again after you try a new version, that would be great, as star ratings get reset and Polar Scope Align gets updated too often to keep a rating (there is a link in the settings page if it helps). What's new:

-Switched to WebKit for faster rendering of help & web pages and copy/paste ability on iOS 11.
-"Force GPS" switch moved to location manager, settings screen label fix for small displays.
-Corrected application of stellar aberration - should fix lower culmination discrepancy compared to USNO.
-Added nutation calculation, brings it to about 2-3 seconds accuracy compared to Cartes du Ciel's apparent coordinate calculations.
-Ecliptic/Equatorial coordinate and Alt-Az to Equatorial calculators.
-Julian Date calculator now converts from JD to calendar date and increased to 5 digit (sub-second) precision.
-Atmospheric refraction toggle in advanced settings.
-DSO setting to show apparent coordinates of objects. Bottom buttons reversed to match other tools.
3.6 2017-10-20
Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, so it doesn't usually get many ratings, but some users did take the time to leave a rating/review and I thank them. If you can also rate again after you try a new version, that would be great, as star ratings get reset and Polar Scope Align gets updated too often to keep a rating (there is a link in the settings page if it helps).

What's new:
-The "Point To The Sky" sort function in DSO Database now shows icons with the type of objects when showing a list of the nearest objects to where you are pointing.
-When your device does not give the app access to the true north heading, you will be warned and the app will try to calculate true north from the magnetic north.
-DSO DB list view has clearer font.
3.5 2017-09-12
Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, so it doesn't usually get many ratings, but some users did take the time to leave a rating/review and I thank them. If you can also rate again after you try a new version, that would be great, as star ratings get reset and Polar Scope Align gets updated too often to keep a rating (there is a link in the settings page if it helps).

What's new:
-Point your phone to the sky and sort the DSO database list by distance from where you pointed.
-Fixed Julian Date calculator month input issue.
-A couple of adjustments to the exposure calculator (based on my own eclipse testing).
-When the app upgrades to a new version (not new installations), it will anonymously share the iOS version, reticle and tools used, so that I can focus development appropriately. I intend to keep support for iOS 6/7 devices for as long as I am allowed, even for very few users - but if no users appear to be on an old iOS version, it may be dropped sooner.
3.4 2017-08-15
As Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, it gets very few ratings despite the number of users. So, if you use the app perhaps you could consider doing a quick rating/review on the app store (there is a link in the settings page if it helps).

You will note v3.4 has a couple of things very useful for solar eclipses. This was not by chance, as I am going to the eclipse myself. Changes:

-Daytime / no polar scope polar alignment tool implemented (Sun icon). See included help. Works on the watch.
-Solar Eclipse presets for the exposure calculator (mostly based on Fred Espenak's exposure tables).
-Location manager now has a "Map" option so that you can manually set your location by pointing on the map (requires internet connection).
-Location manager now shows latitude seconds from your device data (GPS/cellular) in case you need your exact location. You still don't enter seconds with manual location, as that much latitude precision is not needed for polar alignment. Also, on the upper right of the same screen you see your coordinates in decimal format, in case your mount needs it in that format.
-Magnetic displacement shown in Bubble Level & Compass screen.
-Water Vapor satellite images source in Xasteria.
-Telescope limiting magnitude calculator.
-Fixes: Location manager launched from Xasteria was getting its location reset.
-Updated to new iOS SDK (better iPad Pro compatibility). Tell me if there are any issues!
3.3 2017-06-24
As Polar Scope Align never nags you with popups about a rating/review, it gets very few ratings despite the number of users. So, if you use the app perhaps you could consider doing a quick rating/review on the app store (there is a link in the settings page if it helps).

v3.3 changes:

- Night mode on/off switch in main settings, applies to the tools that are not related to polar alignment (Calculators, DSO DB etc), as well as help and instructions for better contrast when used in daytime.
- New calculators: light gathering and DSLR exposure calculator. Also, some calculator fields have a button to select from a list of values (e.g. sensor size, reducer focal length).
- Improved look for some tools (e.g. Bubble Level), increased design consistency.
- Set Zero Position button restored for Skywatcher/Orion 2012-2032 reticle.
3.2 2017-05-26

-Fixed polaris centering problem on Watch when paired with 5.5" iPhone.
-Separated the very old style Synta (Celestron / Skywatcher etc) reticle from the more common “classic” (and actually current for Celestron, but replaced by most others), in order to match better those two reticles respectively. Reticles list re-arranged a bit.
-The "classic" Celestron/Skywatcher etc reticle can be calibrated (using dift alignment or ASPA) so that its epoch matches yours exactly.
-Advanced settings screen improved, “Always show dashed cross” option added (it helps with some reticles to have a horizontal/vertical line for reference).
-Xasteria shows sun/moon rise/set and twilight times. Choice of twilight type in Xasteria settings. Auto/manual location control from Xasteria page.

-Setting the reticle zero point on "new" style Synta (Celestron / Skywatcher / Orion) mounts that come with the reticle installed in a random orientation.
-"Classic" Celestron / Skywatcher / Orion as well as Losmandy polar scopes get an option to set the "zero position" RA for mounts like the modern Celestron GOTOs where you do not have a resettable setting circle. You should only need to find the zero position once.
