Sundial Solar & Lunar Time Description
Sundial is the app you didn't know you needed, showing vital info about the sun and moon any time, anywhere. Never wonder when the sun will set or rise again!

Tracking the sun and moon is something people have done for thousands of years but it's never been easier than it is today with Sundial. Sundial puts solar and lunar information into the palm of your hand and, thanks to the Apple Watch app, onto your wrist as well!

Sundial is an app designed to give everyone access to the sun and moon in ways they don't normally have it. Perfect for runners, hikers, campers, boaters, sailors, pilots, gardeners, farmers, photographers, film/tv production crew, astronomers, astrophotographers, solar installers, and travelers of all kinds. Sundial is an app for anyone who just needs to know when it'll get light and dark.

Sundial provides a one-of-a-kind display of the sun and moon's rise and set cycle over the 24-hour day. As the seasons change, the yellow Òsun is outÓ arc informs you of the precious daylight hours, shrinking during winter months and expanding as summer approaches. The white inner arc represents when the moon is visible in the sky. Civil, nautical, and astronomical twilights are also shown on the solar dial in shades of blue.

Create alerts for one of 24 different solar and lunar events and Sundial will tell you about them Ð without you ever having to open the app.

The 24 events that support notifications include:

- Sunrise, solar mid-morning, solar noon, solar mid-afternoon, sunset, and solar midnight
- Civil twilight (dawn/dusk), nautical twilight, and astronomical twilight
- Moonrise, lunar noon, moonset, and lunar midnight
- Moon phases: full moon, new moon, first quarter moon, and last quarter moon
- Astronomical seasons: March equinox, June solstice, September equinox, and December solstice

All notifications can be customized to alert you minutes, hours, and even days before an event takes place. Sundial can give you plenty of notice that you need to be ready for a sunrise, sunset, and more. Like to walk your dog for 30 minutes before dusk? Sundial can help you with that!

There's more, too!

TIME TRAVEL

Use Sundial's 24-hour wheel to see where the sun and moon will be today, tomorrow, and any other time you choose. Use gestures on iPhone and iPad to scroll through dates. Or jump to a specific date with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

WIDGETS

Sundial features 35 different home and lock screen widgets. Most are customizable.

APPLE WATCH APP

The Sundial Apple Watch app makes all of its solar and lunar data available where it's most easily found Ð right on your wrist. Because Sundial runs on your watch you won't even need to have your iPhone with you.

Hundreds of complication combinations mean you'll find one that displays the right data and has the right look Ð even for the most custom of watch faces. Sundial's unique time dials, solar times/countdown, lunar times/countdown, moon phase, and solar/lunar azimuth are all present on Apple Watch.

ACCESSIBILITY

We want to make sure everyone can enjoy Sundial which is why we built in full Voice Over support from the ground up.

PRIVACY

We believe that your data is your own. That's why Sundial doesnÕt collect any information about the people who use it. Sundial does not store your location or upload it to any third-party service.

Fix for lunar noon (moon peak) image not showing in certain Apple Watch complications
10.8 2023-10-27
Resolved some Apple Watch complications issues on watchOS 10.1. Note: the Watch "companion app" on iPhone may crash when trying to add a Sundial complication there. Please use the complication picker on your Apple Watch to add a Sundial complication. Instructions at https://tinyurl.com/add-watch-comp.
10.7 2023-10-18
Watch complication & smart stack widget improvements (watchOS10):
- Added new corner complications: Moon Phase, Illumination, & Altitude // Moon Phase & Azimuth
- Added circular altitude only complication
- Realistic moon photos can now be used in all complications and widgets in place of the graphic version, even in “tinted” watch faces. Just go to the Sundial Apple Watch app, swipe to the About page, select “Complication & Widget Settings”, and then select “Moon Rendering”.
- Also on that settings page, you can now choose to use moon photo mode inside the solar/lunar rise/set dials (previously always graphic)
- Changed altitude rising/setting arrows to be off by default, but added option to settings to re-enable (under “Complication & Widget Settings”)
10.6 2023-10-09
Improved Watch complication color tinting on watchOS 9 & 10.
10.5 2023-10-04
iPhone and iPad Widget check for purchase unlock has been re-enabled. It had been disabled in Sundial v10.2 because a bug had crept in.
10.4 2023-10-03
v10.4:
- Apple Watch: more bugfixes for "inline" solar/lunar event complications in Solar Graph, Motion, Mickey Mouse, and similar watch faces. To work around memory limitations that could cause the complication to stop updating, I have had to remove the small images that represent the event.
- Apple Watch: added discrete civil dawn/dusk, nautical dawn/dusk, and astro dawn/dusk complication that were available in Sundial v9 and earlier.

v10.3:
- Fixed: "inline" complications in watch faces such as Solar Graph, Motion, and Mickey Mouse could show the wrong events

v10.2:
- Fixed: iPhone/iPad widgets could become "locked" even though you had purchased Sundial extras

v10.1:
- Fixed: iPhone/iPad widget configuration showed blank text in dark mode
- Improve legibility of lunar illumination % inside of dials in widgets and complications

v10.0:
- Added support for iOS 17 standby mode widgets
- Added support for watchOS 10 Smart Stack widgets
- Also under watchOS 9/10, additional complications are now supported by switching fully to the widget system for complications. One side effect of this change: existing complications will need to be re-added. On the Infograph bezel complication, the transits that are track can be changed in Sundial’s ‘About’ page in the Apple Watch app
- Added an option to the Solar Today widget to define what is shown inside the dials; note this will require re-adding the widget. watchOS 9 widget complications have some limitations, however, so it is suggested watchOS 9 users update to watchOS 10 for best complication experience. Sundial on watchOS 7/8 continues using the legacy complications.
- Improved “Solid Background” mode on lock screen widgets
- Miscellaneous bug fixes

NOTE: iPhone/iPad widgets are currently on unlimited free trial: there is a bug in my unlock code I need to resolve.

5.0 2019-09-17
- Apple Watch improvements:
* The second screen has been broken out into separate solar and lunar screens, with more information including dawn and dusk times
* The Watch app no longer tries to get it's location from the iPhone (this could cause issues when the phone's location was less up-to-date than the watch location)
* The Watch app now has a screen to review what location is being used
* Fix layout issue in watchOS 6

- Support custom locations (premium only)
* Search by place name, any portion of an address, or geographic coordinates.
* Save a location to favorites.
* Optionally mirror the custom location to alert preview, alert notifications, today widget, and/or Apple Watch. By default, the custom location is only used to customize the display of solar/lunar times and preview of upcoming notifications (with real device notifications continuing to use your GPS location)
* Optionally sync/backup favorites and recents to iCloud.
* So that free users can kick the tires on this feature before deciding if they want to upgrade to Premium, a number of selectable points of interests (POIs) are bundled with Sundial. The POIs can be hidden.

- You can configure whether to show location information on the iPhone/iPad main screen. By default, location info is only displayed when a searched or favorite location is displayed. You can select to always show location details in location settings (premium only).

- Your current location is now used to determine your timezone when displaying solar/lunar times and scheduling alerts. This can be optionally changed back to using the phone’s current timezone instead (premium only).

- You can configure Sundial to track your location while the iPhone/iPad app is open (premium only). By default, Sundial only updates your location when you open Sundial or open a location screen. Sundial continues to use low-power geo-fencing to get notification of updates when it is in the background so it can update notifications as you travel across the city or farther.

- Simpler twilight labels used, such as civil dawn and astronomical dusk, in both alert event selection and notification text

- Time travel is now limited to 7 days from today for the free version

- iOS 11 and watchOS 4.2 and above are now required
