About TrainSpotting

TrainSpotting is the ultimate user-friendly and VoiceOver compatible app built by a fanatical train enthusiast!

The app replaces paper versions of train data with an extensive database of locomotives (diesel, electric and preserved mainline steam), Diesel and Electric Units, all London Underground stock plus increasing numbers of preserved and scrapped stock. Trams and all Loco Hauled Coaching Stock are also included.

The unsubscribed version database is updated annually for no extra cost - unlike paper versions! The optional subscription allows us to continuously improve and develop the apps functionality with the many great suggestions from the community of our users. Please subscribe!

App users are encouraged to contact us with anything they spot that we have missed!

The app also syncs all your data via iCloud (including any images you have added or taken via the app) to any other devices using the same iCloud account.

You can log a sighting with just a number or you can add: date, location (three-letter station codes supported), a photo and notes. Or you can use the Haulage function to add complete journey information including: number, location and times of departure and arrival plus photos and notes. Ideal for RailMiles users.

You can review your data in several ways: via date, location or by class. You can choose to include or exclude scrapped locos from the Browse page. You can also import any existing data from other sources in CSV format in bulk via a spreadsheet.

This update includes a large number of updates to the Subscribed Premium Database. We have split the generic coach class "Royal Scotsman” into their correct separate Classes such as "Mk1 Pullman Observation Car”. All Class 58 Diesel Locos in France have been scrapped. We have also removed the Class 730/2s that were on order but have since been cancelled. We have also added more of your invaluable observations and images. Please keep in touch!

This update adds a new much-requested feature - a photo wall! Now, if you have a special high-quality image you would like to share with all users, it is easy! Just click on the Social Photo Wall on the home screen and submit your image! If approved, your image along with your name and your description will be displayed! On the Browse via Type page you now have the much-requested option to list only un-spotted numbers. We have also added a pinch to zoom facility on the enlarged images. Also, classes 196/0 & 720/5 can now be spotted by their abbreviated number carried on the front such as 501 as well as their full number such as 720501 carried on the side. Some of the Brighton Belle Class 403s have been renumbered with a 99 prefix ready for mainline operations - they can still be spotted with their previous numbers. We have also added all the scrapped Class 42 and the Class 43 Warship locos. Please keep in touch!
