WhyChat Description
WhyChat? Because now you can chat with any nearby iOS users regardless of whether you have internet connectivity or not. WhyChat is helping bring the reality of a decentralized internet to reality.

So how does it work? Well, WhyChat allows you to connect directly to other iOS devices without sending anything to the cloud. Once you're connected, WhyChat allows you to securely send text messages, voice messages, photos, or any type of file to those people in your local chat group. And what's even better, you don't need to set up or do anything besides creating an account and setting your local chat group name. The app sets everything else up on the network for you. All you need to do is tap the Connect button after logging in and then start chatting and sharing files.

The primary time when WhyChat is useful is when there is no cellular connectivity or no internet connectivity on your Wi-Fi network. One of more common times when this happens is when traveling on an airplane with friends, family, or business colleagues. With WhyChat, you could be seated anywhere on the plane and still be able to chat with each other and NOT need to pay for the airlines internet service since everything is local. On top of that, everything is really fast since you don't need to send your messages and file attachments off the plane and to cloud first. Your data never actually leaves the plane. Ok, so the airplane thing us useful, but you could literally use it anywhere: home, school, work, lab environments, mancaves in basements, remote resort/camping areas, regions of the world with poor cellular coverage, etc.

So now you're connected, then what? Well, once you have established links to the other nearby users in your chat group, WhyChat works similar to other chat messaging applications, but the major difference is that no information transmitted to the cloud. All messages are sent directly between iOS devices with end-to-end encryption. All of your login information, messages, and file attachments are also stored in an encrypted format on your device once received, never in the cloud.

So what does it cost? With WhyChat, you only need to pay the one-time fee to purchase the app and you're good to go. Everything is transmitted locally either directly device-to-device OR device-to-router-to-device, so messages and attachments are sent quite quickly. It's all local! And yes, you won't find these features in other chat messaging applications. All of the major messaging applications typically require a backend cloud server to store and transmit your messages to other users as well as to gather analytics on your usage and serve up ads to you. That's another way that we're a little different. No ads and no parsing your personal data for revenue. The revenue we generate for the hard work we put into the app comes from your purchase of the app.

WhyChat 1.3 Update
2020-01-01
- This versions adds support for specifying an optional connection group password. You tell everyone the password, they specify in settings that a password is required and then set the shared password. Then anyone not specifying the same password will not be able to connect, even if they know your private group name.
- This version is not compatible with older versions due to the significant changes in how devices connect to each other since there is an optional password now.
- Other minor enhancements and bug fixes.
