Brand new Day view and Sharing options (Chat, Social, or Web)!

We added a brand new Day Recaps view in the app. See your entire day in a single view, swipe between days, and scroll down to see more information about your day.

Do you want to share your journal with friends? You can easily share from the Day Recap view to any chat or your favorite social platform. With multiple designs available, pick the one you like.

Do you want to share your entire journal? Check out our redesigned web sharing options. It creates a read-only web view of your journal that you can share with anyone through the web. They don't need an account or to login. (You can reset your share url if you want to stop sharing.)

Other recent changes:
New Privacy controls for your journal, Mindful Minutes synching from Apple Health, and visionOS support.

New Privacy controls for your journal, Mindful Minutes synching from Apple Health, and visionOS support.

Introducing new privacy controls:
- "Lock your journal" with biometrics - if you are worried about someone using your phone having access to your journal, you can now add an extra level of security by locking your journal. (Supported security options depends on your phone model.)

- Set "Privacy preference" on the Connect page - You can now set how much of your journal you would like to share with friends you connect with on the app. Show them all your journal details, only your path, or just your name and profile image.

Mindful Minutes:
If you track mindful minutes using Apple Health, you can now sync it with Ate and see your daily minutes on the Day Recap page.
(More features coming soon.)

visionOS Support:
For those lucky enough to get one when it comes out, the app should now support the new Apple Vision Pro device. Would love to get your feedback on both the device and how Ate runs on it. We probably won't have one for a while.

We also fixed some bugs around chat and fixed some random crashes.

Hope you like this update! Have a great day!

Happy Journaling!
3.7.3 2023-05-17
**New: Option to hide On-/Off-path **
Some of you are absolutely loving the whole On-/Off-path concept, while others are not a big fan of it. So we added the ability to completely hide it in Settings, if it's not your thing.

Other recent changes to help you better understand your eating patterns and stay consistent with your journaling:

*New Interactive charts*
Now you can simply tap SEE DETAILS under the 10-Day Overview charts to view meals linked to each meal Q&A choice. This works with both default and custom Q&As.

*New Path view*
Bigger meal images, more visual Movement entries, dynamic Reflections.

*New Day view*
This new calendar style view enables you to see multiple days at a time, tap on any of the meals or other entries to see the details. Tap on the day to see the Day recap view. Share it with friends if you like! Journaling has never been this easy and fun!

*New Jump to Date feature*
Quickly jump to any date in your journal. Works on both the "Path View" and the brand new calendar "Day View". (Just tap on the small calendar icon on the Path page.)

You now have a brand new way to look back and reflect on your previous meals and journal entries!

**************************
We have also added "Tea" and "Coffee" tracking in the beverages section.

Thanks to all the caffeine, we also managed to squash some bugs that were slowing down the app.

Automatically combine your last meal photos!
It doesn’t matter if the meal photos are taken in the app, imported from the camera roll or added as Text-only, they are automatically combined based on the time interval set in settings.

So that salad, risotto, & gluten-free brownie combo will now properly show as a single meal.

We also fixed some bugs, improved some features (Like the ability to reset your path, regardless of how you logged in), and made things just a bit smoother.

Hope you enjoy it!

Ate Team

(Have you tried our Widgets? A whole new way to use the app.)

Introducing Ate Widgets! The perfect companion to iOS 14!
See your last meal at a glance, when you ate, and your weekly progress.

With the Last meal widget, you can pick from 3 different sizes and even edit what is displayed. Just long-tap on the widget. Show last time you ate, your On-path % or leave it blank. You can even set it to take you directly to the email detail view!
(tip: tapping on the Ate icon will take you to the main path view.)

Widgets are the perfect addition to our Mindfulness-based Photo Food Journal.
Take a look and let us know what you think. Would love to hear your feedback!

What else is new?

Share Watch Faces, a brand new way to interact with Friends and new giant Emoji based Q&As.

Watch Faces: We shared our favorite watch faces with you so you can easily install it on your Apple Watch. Just go to Settings and tap on Watch faces by Ate.

Friends: Easier scrolling, last message view, last mealtime, and useful sorting options. We also made it faster to load your friend’s path. Connect with some trusted friends for added accountability and support.

Emoji Q&As: If you use only emojis in your Q&As, they will display in giant mode to make it easier to select and see. Try them out. Have fun with it!
(Q&A customization requires a Premium subscription.)

Bug Fixes: There were some bugs around Reminders not arriving. Those are now fixed among a few other issues that you have shared with us.

It doesn’t matter if the meal photos are taken in the app, imported from the camera roll or added as Text-only, they are automatically combined based on the time interval set in settings.

So that salad, risotto, & gluten-free brownie combo will now properly show as a single meal.

We also fixed some bugs, improved some features (Like the ability to reset your path, regardless of how you logged in), and made thing just a bit smoother.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for all the feedback and support! You made us the #1 Mindful Food Journaling app in the US!

See what is new in this release:

- Skip experiments and go straight to journaling (fix)
- Mindful Experiments (now optional)
- Manage and switch between Experiments
- Updated Apple Watch App (quick add, no crash)
- Updated icon (with a bit more sunshine)
- Bug fixes

New in 2.0: Experiment to find out what works for you!

Mindful EXPERIMENTS are short-term changes you can make in your eating behaviors and lifestyle to see how they make you feel.

We talked to experts around the world to see what advice they give their clients to help them make long-term health improvements.

These experiments are based on these proven techniques that work for many, but not all. We are all different. There is no single solution that works for everyone. So give them a try, stay On-path with it for ~80% of the time and see how it feels.

Once you feel like you are done with it, reflect on how it made you feel. If it didn’t work for you, move on to the next one. If you feel better, take some of the learnings and try to incorporate them into your everyday life.

It’s all about self-discovery and learning more about yourself.

What else can you do with Experiments?
Take a look at the new current experiment view under your profile. It’s a good way to look back and see what and how you ate that worked for you. We also added a view under settings where you can look back on all your previous experiments. It’s a good way to look back on previous choices that made you feel great!

The core app hasn’t changed. It’s still the easiest, most intuitive, and fastest food journaling app available.

Ate is mindful, non-judgmental, and designed to help anyone in finding the path that works best for them to reach their healthy lifestyle goals.

If you have any suggestions on how to make it even more effective, please chat with us from the app or drop us an email at hello @ youate.com.

>> If you love the app, please help spread the joy by giving us a 5-star review. It really helps us get this mindful food diary to more people. Thanks!<<

Have a mindful day and keep journaling!

Experiment with what works for you!

We are replacing guidelines with fun mindful EXPERIMENTS! These are short-term changes you can make in your eating behaviors and lifestyle to see what impact it has on how you feel.

We talked to experts around the world to see what advice they give to their clients as they help them make long-term improvements in their health.

It’s all about self-discovery and learning more about yourself.

If you don't want to try one, just tap on Simple Journaling and continue like before!

What else can you do with experiments?
Take a look at the new current experiment view under your profile. It’s a good way to look back and see what and how you ate that worked for you. We also added a view under settings where you can look back on all your previous experiments. It’s a good way to look back on previous choices that made you feel great!

Interactive reminders to make self-reflections easier and visual notifications to help you become a better accountability buddy!

More details below, but first... Love, love, love! :)

We were featured by Apple in the "Apps We Love Right Now!" section.

Of course, they are not the only ones loving us! Just read what our community has to say:

"Love love love this app!!! Finally an app that helps me keep in track! I have done weight watchers for years, Paleo, tried Keto etc... this app is exactly what I needed to help me. I wanted to eat a granola bar right after dinner... really really? But I didn’t want to have to take a photo of it so I drank water instead! Thank you! Thank you! I have been doing this for about a week and have lost 3 pounds. It is making me drink more water too."

"Throw away your spreadsheets, delete your other apps because this app is SO RAD you won’t need anything else. It tracks enough info to be useful and interesting, yet it doesn’t track so much that it’s cumbersome or overwhelming. It’s like the little bear in the Goldilocks children’s story ... juuuuussst right. The UI is simple and sleek. It’s so easy that you’ll WANT to log your food and that’ll keep you going and get you to your goal. Good luck!"

"I love that I can track how long it’s been since my last meal. The diet plan I follow has me eating every 3-4 hours. I can setup a reminder to tell me it’s time to eat 3-4 hours after my meal."

Somebody even called us a “Food angel on their shoulders”! Thanks!

Keep the stories and feedback coming! It’s helping us making this the simplest, least judgmental and most effective mindful food diary in the App Store..

Have a mindful day!

Esther

Recent updates:

- Custom Question/Answer sets -
Customize the question/answer sets under meal details. Did the default answers not match your needs? Looking to track your hunger levels on a hunger scale? Or track carb content? Custom Q/As will allow you to do all that for each meal. Customize existing answers or add brand new ones with a custom graph automatically generated for you. (Premium)

- Share your Day -
Swipe left on the “Share your Day” image to show meal descriptions or answers to your mindful questions over each associate meal image. You can find them both under the new Day Recap view.

Share it on Instagram, tag it with #ateapp and we will reshare it in our Instagram Story.
Or share it on Facebook with your tribe.

- Save Location -
We have also added a new experimental feature: Save the location of your meals. Basically, we take your current location and attach it to the meal you just saved. We plan to use this in a search/map feature we are considering adding. We are also open to other ideas you might have. Anyway, we wanted to give you a chance to start saving that data in your diary while we figure out what to do with it. It’s turned off by default and we will not share it with anyone. So if you want to start saving location, you have to enable it in settings.

- Daily Steps -
We have also added daily step counts and activity rings from Apple Health to the Day Recap view for our Premium users.

- Watch 4 support with Water tracking -
We have updated our Apple Watch app to fully support all the new complications in Watch 4. We have also added the capability to easily track your water intake from your wrist.

- Mood Tracking -
This was a big request! Track your mood throughout the day. Feeling happy or bored during the day? Log it quickly with a few taps. It can help you understand why you made some of the decisions that you made. (Premium)

- Apple Health sync for Water and Activities -
You can now elect to sync your water intake and activity data with Apple Health. So if you are using an external tracker (like your Apple Watch) that syncs with Apple Health, all that data will now show up on your path in the app. Of course, we also sync in the other direction, so if you quickly need to log water or an activity, like yoga, it will be pushed to Apple Health. (Premium)

- VoiceOver support -
We added full VoiceOver support for our visually impaired users. We are super excited to have them on ate and looking forward to their feedback on what else we can improve on.

**Announcement: our new name is: ate**
We decided to drop the “You” from “YouAte” because it had some negative connotations. Bit pointy, a bit judging. And we don’t need that in our lives.

We think you will love it!

This is something that many of you were asking for. You can now track your mood throughout the day. Feeling happy or bored during the day? Quickly log it with just a few taps. It can be super helpful when you look back later trying to figure out why you made certain choices you made. (Requires premium account)

-Additional tracking options-
It looks like this was confusing to many. Adding past meals as Text-only or by Importing from the camera roll are still available for free. We just moved them under a new pop-up menu for easy access. You will find this menu by tapping “Options” next to the camera button. Here you can also customize which option is available on the other side of the camera button. If you are a Premium subscriber, you can put any of the tracking options on the front screen for easy access.

-Scrolling timeline-
We made some speed improvements to the timeline, so when you scroll up on your timeline in the main view (by swiping down), past meals and days will now load faster. Give it a try!

If you feel that YouAte is having a positive impact on your life, please give us a quick 5-star rating in the app store and maybe share some of your story, if you have time. It would mean a lot to us. Thanks!

For feedback or concerns, contact us directly so we can help you right away.

Enjoy your path!

More details about some recent changes:

- Note entry -
You can now save your thoughts and feelings with the new “Note” type entry. This is the first of several new entry types we will be introducing in the upcoming weeks. (Requires a premium membership.)

- Added Yoga as a new activity type -
We added Yoga as one of the activity choices. We also renamed “Exercise” >> “Activity” because we think it better represents the wide range of physical movements you can do to become a healthier you.

- Custom Liquid volumes -
You can now add custom volumes. Just scroll to the bottom of the volume selector. Easily reuse them using the Quick Add function.

- 24-hour clock and support for Milliliters (ml) -
The app now matches your phone’s settings. So if you are using 24-hour time format and the metric system, the app will display things properly.

- Apple Health sync for Water and Activities -
You can now elect to sync your water intake and activity data with Apple Health. So if you are using an external tracker (like your Apple Watch) that syncs with Apple Health, all that data will now show up on your YouAte path. Of course, we also sync in the other direction, so if you quickly need to log water or an activity, like yoga, it will be pushed to Apple Health.

__________
Thanks for your support!
We would also like to thank all our Premium members for their support. Without them (you), we would not be able to continue improving YouAte to make it the most effective and fun journaling tool in the market. So THANK YOU!

Liquid Tracker (water, soda, caffeine, alcohol and other)
Many of us don’t drink enough water, which makes us feel hungry even if we are not. Get into the habit of drinking more plain water and cut back on the sugary stuff with our included Liquid Tracker. Use it to track water, caffeinated drinks, alcohol, sugary soda and everything else. See how it fits on your path and the impact it has on what you eat. Stay hydrated! [Premium feature]

Ability to change date and time of any entry
Change the date and time of your existing journal entries. Tap the timestamp on the top of a meal or hit the menu button to make the change.

Want to save a bit more time with favorites?
You can now double tap a favorite photo to quickly add it to to your path.

Custom Reminders
Having trouble remembering to eat? Or to log your meals? Try adding custom meal reminders to help you out. They are only a quick tap away on the top of your timeline. You can set up reminders at fixed times or after meals. Use this to remind you to eat breakfast or stop eating at the end of your IF eating window. Use the after-meal reminders to alert you to eat again or to reflect on how you feel. You can fully customize the text and even add emojis. Have fun with it!

Are you curious to see how you ate a few weeks ago?
Check out the visual history of your progress on your profile page. You can now look back and see how you did each week. Scroll back and forth, tap on weeks, reflect and have fun.

Seeing your progress is now even easier with the new Day-by-Day view on your profile page. Want to save a bit more time with favorites? You can now double tap a favorite photo to quickly add it to to your path. We also manage to eliminate some annoying bugs that were causing some crashes in the friends view.

Hope these changes will help you in your healthy journey. Many more cool things to come! Enjoy your path!

Other recent additions:

Do you ever wish you could quickly log a meal with your Apple Watch?
You can now keep on top of your path and even log a meal from your watch. Great for those moments when you don’t have your phone with you or taking your phone out for a quick picture is not an option.

Proud of how you ate all day?
Share it with friends on social media with the new “Share your day” feature. It creates a beautiful compilation of your first six meals on that day with time of day information and daily summary stats for easy sharing.

Meal Reminders and a new Visual History on your profile page.

We made things a bit more helpful and visual in this release to help you even more on your healthy journey. Thanks for all the feedback and keep it coming.

First, we added fully custom MEAL REMINDERS that you can now set on the top of the timeline view. (We actually always had these, but they were hidden in settings. :( ) You can set up reminders at fixed times or after meals. Use this to remind you to eat breakfast or stop eating at the end of your IF eating window. Use the after-meal reminders to alert you to eat again or to reflect on how you feel. You can fully customize the text and even add emojis. Have fun with it!

Check out your new profile page with a beautiful VISUAL HISTORY of your path. You can now look back and see how you did each week. Scroll back and forth, tap on weeks, reflect and have fun. This is just the first step in transforming the way profiles look. We will have some fun new features coming out in the next releases. We just wanted to get this out to you as soon as possible. Take a look!

Other recent additions:

Apple Watch app, new “Share your day” feature and speed improvements.

But first, a must share user review: Down 17lbs and counting by MdlnJam
“This app is amazing. I’m someone who has tried EVERY diet and fitness app out there and nothing has been as effective as this app. I’ve lost 17lbs since I started using the app a little over a month ago and I’m still losing. The best part is you can customize your goals for you, you aren’t forced to eat or not eat any foods. I’m still eating whatever I want, but the mindfulness questions for every meal are helping me realize what foods make me feel good. If I get off track of the path I created for myself, it isn’t the end of the world and I don’t binge on ice cream like I would with other diets. I just try to be more mindful during the next meal. Mindfulness really is key to being able to make smart choices in any situation, and I’m so grateful for this app! THANK YOU FOR YOUATE, DEVELOPERS! It really works!”

Thank you! We really appreciate the feedback!

Now… to the list of new features:

Do you have an Apple Watch? You can now keep on top of your path and even log a meal from your watch. Great for those moments when you don’t have your phone with you or taking your phone out for a quick picture is not an option.

Proud of how you ate all day? Share it with friends on social with the new “Share your day” feature. It creates a beautiful compilation of your meals on that day with all relevant information for easy sharing.

Did you notice that things got a bit faster? We made some tweaks here and there to improve the experience. Hope you like it

Although this was released in December, but it’s worth mentioning again. Giant emoji support for text-only meals is here! Have you played with it? Add a single emoji when saving a text-only meal. It’s so much fun! You can even save it as a favorite and import it next time around for even quicker logging.

We also fixed some annoying bugs, like meals showing up in the wrong order when you start out and some of the average counters being off. We are pretty sure these bugs are now gone! If you still find something, let us know!
