About A Midsummer Night's Dream - Replayed
A Midsummer Night's Dream - Replayed is a JRPG/Interactive play developed by Crowded Room Studio, with art done by Fuchs & Dachs, in collaboration with the British Council.
The video game follows the original storyline of the play, with minor branching from it in the form of random battles. Our choice of a JRPG genre is based on our needs to show a story up first, with the combat and the gameplay being second in line, but adding the important flavor that will keep the audience happy, and will ensure fun. Our wish was to create an interactive play, with a dreamlike atmosphere that will draw the users in and with, or without even knowing, will interest them in what their experiencing, potentially engaging them in further research and consuming of the marvel that is William Shakespeare.
Most of the story is narrated through in-game cut-scenes, with the players taking control of certain characters like Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helen, and Puck, with addition of mini-games including the craftsmen and their rehearsal, as well as the play itself.
Controls and challenges in the game are not hard, since the goal is to draw people into the world of Shakespeare, and give a never before seen alternative to those that already love Shakespeare, as well as to appeal the game to younger audiences. No serious violence is present, and fights are not too numerous. Those fights that do occur have a comedic and lighthearted effect, with no blood being drawn.
The language used is original Shakespearean, with changes and adjustments.
Special thanks to:
Marcelo Bazani Menezes de Jesus for particle and spell animation,
Alexandre Guiraud and Jaroslav Vyhnicka for enchanting music.
