About CAMEO Chemicals

CAMEO Chemicals is a database of hazardous chemical datasheets that emergency responders and planners can use to get response recommendations and predict hazards (such as explosions or toxic fumes). This app runs offline.

Key Program Features:

* Search by name, CAS number, or UN/NA number to find chemicals of interest in the extensive database of thousands of hazardous substances. Includes "type ahead" feature for simplified chemical name searches. An advanced search with additional search criteria is also available.

* Review chemical datasheets for physical properties; health hazards; information about air and water hazards; recommendations for firefighting, first aid, and spill response; and regulatory information.

* Get information from additional sources using the U.S. Coast Guard CHRIS manual, the NIOSH Pocket Guide, and International Chemical Safety Cards links on many chemical datasheets.

* Access UN/NA datasheets for response information from the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) and shipping information from the Hazardous Materials Table. ERG Response Guide PDFs are available in English, Spanish, and French. Additionally, if the datasheets have ERG initial isolation and protective action distance tables, you can now see those values displayed on a map.

* Predict potential hazards that could arise if chemicals were to mix.

* Get offline access: the app runs without an internet connection. You can search for chemical and UN/NA datasheets, view ERG Response Guide PDFs and U.S. Coast Guard CHRIS PDFs, create MyChemicals collections, and view reactivity predictions--all while you're offline. When you're online, you can also go to additional resources on external websites (such as the NIOSH Pocket Guides and the International Chemical Safety Cards) from the app.

CAMEO Chemicals is developed jointly by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Response and Restoration in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Emergency Management. It is one of the core programs of the CAMEO software suite (https://response.restoration.noaa.gov/cameo).

Old Versions
* Updated to the newly released 2024 Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) data, including the ERG response guide PDFs in English, French, and Spanish.
* Added an address search feature to the mapping tool that plots initial isolation and protective action distances from the ERG. The map can be accessed from any UN/NA datasheet that has the ERG Table 1 (or Table 3) values from the green section.
* Updated data from several additional sources, including EPA regulatory data, NIOSH Pocket Guides, DuPont suit fabric breakthrough times, Hazmat Table (49 CFR 172.101) shipping data, International Chemical Safety Cards, and toxic Levels of Concern.
* Revised help topics.
* Made additional minor changes and bug fixes.

3.0.1
Dec 14, 2023
* For only Vapor Density values that are number ranges, removed additional short phrases (chemical will likely sink/rise in air).

* For only Specific Gravity values that are number ranges, removed additional short phrases (chemical will likely sink/float in fresh water).

* Range values had a bug where in some cases they were not displaying the right short phrase. The phrases have been removed, but the values themselves are still shown.
3.0.0
Oct 13, 2023
* Added a new mapping tool to plot initial isolation and protective action distances from the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG). The map can be accessed from any UN/NA datasheet that has the ERG Table 1 (or Table 3) values from the green section.
* Included functionality to allow the mapping tool to export objects to a KML file that can be viewed in other mapping programs, including MARPLOT.
* Enhanced the Vapor Density and Specific Gravity fields with short phrases to say if the chemical will likely sink/rise in air or sink/float in fresh water (respectively).
* Updated data from several sources, including EPA regulatory data, NIOSH Pocket Guides, DuPont suit fabric breakthrough times, and toxic Levels of Concern.
* Added compatibility improvements for newer operating systems.
* Revised help topics.
* Made additional minor changes and bug fixes.
