About Chapters - Notebooks for Writing

Chapters lets you create and manage multiple notebooks, each fully searchable and with its own settings.

Keep a travel journal, a photo log, a notebook about ongoing work projects, and your own personal diary in one app.

Manage writing projects. Create as many notebooks as you want and fill each with as much as you need to write. Choose a color theme, font, text color, and page color for each notebook.

Focused writing. Multiple photos per entry that you can move, resize, rotate - your words flow around them. Reliable storage, autosave, and passcode lock protect your words; share or read them on your computer with PDF, text, and email export. You can also create backups and save them to other apps such as Dropbox, Drive, and Evernote.

Add a passcode to lock the app and keep your writing private.

Enable word count to see how much you've written. You can also enable the extra keyboard buttons to jump forward and backward by word or character with a single tap, saving you time so you can focus on writing.

Work while using other apps with support for Slide Over and Split View multitasking on iPad.

Not interested in managing multiple notebooks? Have a look at Chronicle, an app that focuses on keeping a single personal journal. Chapters can import .backup files from Chronicle (as well as the .cbackup files from the older Chronicle2 app)

FEATURES

* Create as many notebooks as you need to group related writing
* Notebook themes (Classic color and 7 new colors)

* Customize the text color of your journal
* Easy back-dating; tap to adjust the entry date as needed

* Crisp PDF export preserves layout and photo placement
* Export your entire journal as a plain text file
* Fast search that provides context around keywords
* Distraction free writing in portrait or landscape mode
* Support for Dynamic Type means text is never too small to read

* Export single entries via email, with photos embedded
* Chapters remembers where you were in each notebook
* Arrange your photos by dragging them; rotate with two fingers
* Autosave and undo while you're writing

Please note that drawing/handwriting aren't supported.

ACCESSIBILITY

Stop squinting. In addition to being able to adjust the journal's font size, you can change the system's Text Size from the Settings app to make the UI text in Chapters easy to read. I've also added accessibility and VoiceOver improvements.

Take a moment to create a backup or export your writing before updating.

- Fixed the notebook cover font issue (previously the font would revert to the default after opening a notebook)
- Performance enhancements (reduced memory usage)

This update corrects an issue introduced in the previous update. I'm incredibly sorry about missing that during testing. It affected roughly a third of users, most running iOS 3.2. I tried to fix it as fast as possible but with any update there's at least a few days wait while the software is reviewed for inclusion on the store.

I hope to earn your trust again. The reviews were beautiful before that incident and I'll work hard to make sure this never happens again.

As always, consider making a backup from within the app before updating. Contact me if you need help.

*** There are some reported issues with iOS 3.2. If you're running iOS 3.2 you should wait for the 1.0.7 update ***

Mostly a maintenance release, with a couple extras:

* Added clear button to make editing notebook title easier
* App uses 10-30% less memory in many cases, especially when dealing with photos.
* Photo thumbnails are now a little larger by default
* Better autosave support to prevent data loss on new OS version (thanks Alex)
* Link detection; any URLs you type can be tapped and opened
* REMOVED Zapfino font
* ADDED Courier font at the request of a couple writers (especially screenwriters).
* Fixed memory leak on main notebook gallery page
* Fixed rare but possible crash situation that occurred when you tapped on an entry to edit it

NOTE: the first time you view older entries with many photos you may notice a lag as the app optimizes the photo for use with the new version.

ANOTHER NOTE: An issue with fonts on the notebook covers reverting to the default will be fixed in the next update (already submitted)
1.0.5
Nov 5, 2010
* Minor fixes (rotation position issue, memory leak)
* If a photo can't be imported you'll get a message now
1.0.4
Oct 3, 2010
* Dropbox support. Now backup files can be automatically uploaded to your Dropbox account for safekeeping.

If you own Chronicle for iPhone you'll be able to easily import any backup files you create on your iPhone/iPod.
1.0.3
Sep 24, 2010
* New sort option for notebooks
* Quick-list makes finding a notebook easy
* Ability to pick notebook cover font
* Optional word count feature
* Support for bullet lists and manual timestamps
* Some additional in-app help
* Bug fix for low-memory situations

t's generally prudent to save a backup file to your computer or export a copy of your notebooks periodically. You don't have to do this before you update, but it certainly can't hurt.

Thanks again! Your suggestions and feedback make this app what it is and determine what it can become.
1.0.2
Sep 11, 2010
Before upgrading, export a copy of your writing using one of the export methods. This won't affect anything on your device, it's just a precaution so you have a copy of your writing in some other format.

* Support for maintaining photo's aspect ratio (non-square thumbs)
* Ability to create backup files. You can restore from these files in the event of data loss.
* Note that if you have Chronicle for iPad you can create a backup and import it into a Chapters notebook (and vice versa)
* Choose a softer page color if white is too bright
* Notebook covers enhanced a little; more to come
* Some bug fixes and performance enhancements

Thank you! Please let me know if you have questions or need help!
1.0.1
Aug 26, 2010
* Support for exporting your writing in PDF format
* Fixed issue for those using bluetooth keyboard
* Export methods respect the vertical ordering of your photos
* Fixed an issue that made scrolling on the gallery screen awkward
* Fixed some website export issues
* You can now cancel out of the lock screen for convenience

Thanks for the suggestions! Perform a sync and export your writing before updating.
