About Decoding Daniel
Decoding Daniel is a game for adolescents who have a medical condition (or ‘disorder’) from early childhood.
If you have such a disorder, you have probably been treated by a pediatrician for many years. Once you become a young adult, you’ll make the step from the pediatrician to the ‘adult’ doctor. This step is called ‘the transition’.
Becoming an adult is quite exciting. Some experience this as more difficult than others.
To stand on your own feet, you have to be able to organize your own health.
We do not expect you to do this on your first day, but at every doctor’s appointment you will do a little more.
During the transition-process your parents/caretakers will stay involved. Yet, you will do a bit more every time. Step by step you will learn to be in control and to take control. At the start you will probably ask yourself many questions. What do I have to arrange? How do I arrange these things? Am I able to do this on my own?
We made a toolkit to make the transition more fun and easier for you. This toolkit comprises a set of cards with assignments, ideas and tips, and a game. This game is part of a project called the YESS study and can only be used by people who participate in the YESS study.
