About GeoGuide Rome

The GeoGuide Rome lets you discover the city of Rome through its fascinating geologic and geomorphologic heritage that plays an important role for the not less fascinating cultural heritage. Rome is known as the Eternal City, thanks to its long history. The power that the ancient Romans tied to their city and their culture was strong enough to remain in the time a myth.

The Roman history itself is made of myths and legends: the myth of the founding of the city on the 7 Hills, the myth of the Kidnapping of the Sabines and the betrayal of Tarpeia, the myth of the Mouth of Truth, the origin of the Tiberina Island. Many of these are particularly related to aspects of the landscape and tell not only human history but also the natural history of Rome.

The Geoguide Rome offers the opportunity to discover the main geological geomorphological characteristics of Rome in 11 stops, divided by themes exploring the link between GEO aspects, HIStorical-archaeological interests and LEGends. Other stops allow to discover the 7 Hills, where the myth of the Eternal City was born.

This itinerary is based on the results of the researches carried out by the Department of Earth Sciences at Sapienza University (Rome). The collaboration with the Institute of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Lausanne has allowed to transform the paper Geoguide of Rome in an APPlication for smartphones and tablets.

Enjoy your discovery!
