We are excited to announce that all restrictions will now be automatically shared across all child’s devices.
For example, let’s say child Jane has two devices: an iPhone and iPad. If you create a restriction that blocks games, then games will be disallowed on Jane’s both iPhone and iPad. No need to set parental controls individually for each device anymore.
Device usage time is also shared across devices. So if you limit Instagram to 1 hour per day, then Instagram will be blocked even when Jane uses Instagram for 30 minutes on her iPhone and 30 minutes on her iPad. The total usage will be summed up to 1 hour, so Instagram gets restricted until tomorrow.
Note 1: for device usage to be shared across devices, you need to enable Screen Time in the Settings app and turn on “Share Across Devices” on all child devices.
Note 2: it can take some time for individual apps to get restricted on all devices. In the example above, when Instagram gets blocked on Jane’s iPhone, it can take some time for iOS to sync the used time between devices. This means that on the iPad, Instagram will be blocked a bit later, not in realtime. We’ll try to create a workaround on our end in the future to make it realtime.
