I had traveled through scorching deserts, vast forests, barren tundras, and rock-strewn plains. How long had it been since I started my journey? Days, weeks, months... I could no longer keep track, let alone remember each of the countless number of people I'd met, meals shared, tips exchanged with fellow travelers. All I was certain of was my task: I was to collect a certain treasure, one said to contain priceless knowledge, prophecies of things yet to come. As I made my journey, I tried to imagine... What kind of wisdom awaited me at my destination? What kind of divination did the creators of this treasure use to make their predictions? What would happen once I had this unknown prize?

After untold dangers and a near-eternity of passage, I arrived at the place I was to find the treasure, finally completing my task. Deep in a dark cave, past crumbling caverns in a place where it seemed the sun would never shine--I found it. A small wooden box, ornately carved, nestled amongst a pile of rocks, as though someone had placed it there with great care. As I took the box in hand, I noticed that though the design was seemingly ancient, the box itself seemed almost brand new--how little it had seemed to suffer from the humid environs of the cave, like it had been blessed by some supernatural being. Inside the box was a small glass bottle, containing a rolled-up piece of paper. This--this was it! This was the knowledge that was to foretell the future! Oh, how my hands trembled as I uncorked the bottle and shook out the paper. Though the cave was dark, my lantern provided me enough light to make out the words neatly, carefully inscribed on the paper...

From the doorway, I noticed he'd left his windows open, and the breeze had blown the papers on his desk all over the floor. I picked one up, curious about his latest Holmes adventure. But written on the paper—

(Hmm, this doesn't look like a novel... it looks more like a list. Almost like... a list of updates for an app?)
