About Thermal Process Safety
TÜV SÜD's unique Thermal Process Safety App is designed to help* you assess chemical reaction hazards.
Thermal Process Safety ensures that chemical processes are kept under control. Most chemical reactions generate heat and may also produce gases. In a well-designed process any heat or gas can be removed safely even with a total loss of cooling.
Calculation support is provided in the following sections:
- Cooling Failure Scenario
- Main / Synthesis reaction
- Secondary Reactions
- Heat Accumulation in Solids
- Cooling Capacity
- Evaporation
- Gas Release in a Reaction
The app also provides a detailed overview of substances and graphical formula displays.
The TPS app supports the calculations for systematic assessment described and taught by Prof. Francis Stoessel. Detailed background information on these TPS calculations can be found in Prof. Stoessel’s highly recommended book (Thermal Safety of Chemical Processes - Risk Assessment and Process Design, 2nd. Ed. 2020, Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, ISBN: 978-3-527-69692-5).
