At Big Time Coach, we use our apps for each-and-every Game, Practice, Tryout, and Draft that we participate in. Our apps are continually used and refined to put the tools we've come to rely on in your hands.
Big Time Coach Baseball Tryout and Draft Management brings you over 30 years of baseball evaluation insights and baseball draft strategy right to your iPad. This year you can throw away the tryout forms and spreadsheets and instead bring Big Time Coach Baseball Tryout App directly to the field. We have developed another easy to use tool for Baseball Coaches looking to assemble the best players for their team. Our baseball app helps you rate and grade players on performance, skills, attitude and any attribute you look for as a coach with customizable fields.
After the league tryout or team tryout is complete you can study your ratings and rank your players based on the skills or positions you are looking for on your team. Once your rankings are complete you can now get ready for your draft. With Big Time Coach Baseball Tryout you can take all of your player evaluations into the draft room using the Baseball Draft Feature.
The Baseball Draft Feature will allow you to conduct a live draft for your team with all the player data from the tryouts. No more sifting through your paper notes, everything you need is right in the app! Create your team during the draft, while tracking the selection of all the other players in the draft. Based on feedback from our coaches, we have added a new way to display player lists in the evaluation view.
You may now select 'ABC' in that view to display players by last name + first name, and select a group of players based on first letter of their last name.
This makes it easier for coaches in leagues where a list of players is distributed before the tryout and imported to the app. Of course player groups are still supported for those who prefer that option.
We hope you enjoy the changes!

A user reported a crash 8/7/2018 when using iOS 9 when ever players were being added to an evaluation. We were able to identify the issue, and make a bug fix to solve the problem the same day.

For those passing along crash information.. Thank You!
Because of crash sharing we were able to identify a bug in the Tryout Detail that would allow navigation to views before a tryout had been created. When the navigation was attempted - the app would crash. We've modified the action menu to not display actions until a tryout has been created and is selected. This will prevent these crashes from happening.

Because of crash sharing we were able to identify a bug in the Tryout Detail view that would not clear the view when a tryout was deleted. Touching the null tryout date field would cause a crash. We've squashed that bug so that you may now use those functions.

Our last update dramatically changed the navigation to make it much easier to use Tryout and Draft Management in portrait orientation. This update is focused on ensuring continued operation with iOS 11.
A few minor bug fixes have been included as well. Enjoy!

Monitoring our app records, we found a crash happening in one of the new views. This release fixes that crash situation.

Navigation Overhall
With feedback from our staff and quite a few users, we've made dramatic changes to the way you navigate and perform actions in Tryout and Draft Management.
Actions Replace the Task List
We admit that the old "Task List" was a real pain to use for navigation. As a result, we have removed the "Task List" and added an "Actions" button to aid in navigation. This does two things:
1) All the navigation is directly on each view. No need to bring up the old "Task List" to perform navigation functions.
2) Lists (evaluations, players, drafts) are now embedded in the view for better response and context.
Actions Consolidate Lower Navigation Bar
In many views there was a blue navigation bar at the bottom of the view. This view had many buttons for actions in the view context. The problem was that this navigation bar would get extremely crowded. The blue navigation bar also took up significant space at the bottom of the view. All of these functions have now been moved to the "Actions" list on each view.
Player Evaluation View - Improved for "Portrait" Orientation
We received a lot of feedback asking for better support for having the iPad in "Portrait" (vertical) orientation when entering player evaluation information. The change that removed the "Task" list allowed us to change all of the views to work better when holding the iPad in Portrait orientation, but the view that gained the most from the change is the Player Evaluation view.
No longer does the player list "disappear" when you rotate the iPad. We simply consolidate the evaluation view to fit the orientation so you can continue just as you did when holding the iPad horizontally.
Re-designed Import Function
While the old version worked fine, it was a but cumbersome to use. We've re-designed the views and process to flow better including an improved Template File which can be edited more easily and accurately.

Of course no new release would be complete without a number of bug fixes and updates. We've done a number of things "under-the-hood" to make the app perform better and be more stable.

- Changed Player Age default to 0 [zero] in the Player Evaluation view. Users were able to create and save new players without an age, and this would cause a crash in the Draft Detail view. Ages can be changed in the Player Evaluation view, and in the Working List.

- Updated entry of Tryout / Evaluation data by moving from a scrolling wheel to a large data entry popup. With large numbers and much easier navigation you won't loose that number as the next player comes up to the station.
- Added the ability to dictate text fields. We'll continue to look into extending the ability to make entries with voice so that entry is faster and more accurate.
- Converted DropBox integration to API v2: This is a small impact, but you'll notice that the templates have moved to a common 'App' area in DropBox. This allows you to find and manage the templates and imports in a more straightforward manner.
- Enhanced template and import validation: While Tryout and Draft always had the ability to import data, the process was vague and not always accurate. Along with the convening to DropBox API v2, we've added validation functionality including:
o Checking all headers for completeness
o Validating all lines for completeness and data integrity

In preparation for Winter tryouts... We've killed a few bugs, and made some additional impact on performance improvements that help with battery life so that you can stay on the field longer with out having to re-charge.

With feedback from the past few months, we've added additional help and problem functions so that if users are having issues with the app, they may contact the BTC coaches and developers to get them on-track for a great experience. Our app development team is very responsive and works hard to implement changes as quickly as possible, but the BTC Team relies on feedback through our forums and direct emails to be made aware of issues and address them quickly.

In preparation for the iPad Pro shipping, we've updated all of the interfaces to work with the new view sizes. If you're lucky enough to have one of the new iPad Pro's...Tryout and Draft Management will continue to work for you as before.

Our goal is to make great apps for everyone who purchases them. If someone does not like the app, we ask them to give us feedback so that we may address the issues and make changes, but some users opt to leave feedback on iTunes without asking for help, and those ratings hurt our ability to enable coaches and reach players.
We ask that if you really hate the app, contact us so that we may help you or, simply ask Apple for a refund. They will grant it and you'll have no additional impact.
