About UK ETA

The UK ETA app lets you apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to come to the UK.

Who can use the app
Find out who can apply at: https://www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation. You can apply for someone else if they are with you.

If you are applying for someone else and they are not with you, apply online: https://www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation.

How it works
1. Take a photo of your passport.
2. If your passport has a chip and your phone can make contactless payments, access the chip in your passport using your phone.
3. Scan your face using the camera on your phone.
4. Take a photo of yourself.
5. Answer questions about yourself.
6. Pay for your application.

Before you start
You need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a good quality photo of yourself.
You need:
• the passport you will use to travel to the UK - not a photocopy
• a credit card, debit card or Apple Pay
• access to your emails

You need take photos of the:
• passport
• face of the person applying

You do not need to enter your travel details.
Applying takes around 10 minutes.

You need to use:
• an iPhone 7 or newer
• iOS 15 or later

What happens next
You'll usually get a decision within 3 working days, and you may get a quicker decision. Occasionally, it may take longer than 3 working days. We'll link your ETA to the passport you applied with. You must use this passport to travel to the UK.

You do not need anything else, including your:
• decision email
• reference number
