About Virtues Family Cards

Virtues Family Cards: Reminders of the Gifts Within

Virtues are the content of our character, qualities of the human spirit, attributes of the Divine, described in the theology of the world’s sacred texts as an order of angels.

The VIRTUES Family CARDS are a powerful tool for personal reflection, strengthening families and creating and strengthening communities. The cards offer an opportunity to reflect on, practice and strengthen our qualities of character to transform our lives.

Each of the 52 Virtues Cards has:
A Sacred Quotation
A Description of the Virtue
Signs of Success and
An Affirmation

THE SOURCE of the research and content of the Virtues Family Cards is The Virtues Project™, a global initiative, now in more than 140 countries. The Virtues Project™ is endorsed by the Dalai Lama and was honored by the United Nations during the International Year of the Family as a "model global program for families of all cultures".

THE VIRTUES PROJECT INSPIRES INDIVIDUALS to live more authentic, joyful lives, FAMILIES to raise children of compassion and integrity, EDUCATORS to create safe, caring and high performing learning communities & LEADERS to inspire excellence and ethics in the workplace. The virtues cards were created by The Virtues Project Founders; Linda Kavelin Popov, Dr. Dan Popov and John H. Kavelin.

How to Use the Family Cards:

There are many ways to use the Virtues Family Cards: for guidance in making a decision, healing a relationship, clarifying our direction, or simply providing a spiritual focus for the day. They are a unifying activity when used in a sharing circle. When we receive a virtue, it is either an affirmation or an invitation and sometimes both. Below are just a couple of ideas…

DO A VIRTUES PICK
A Virtues Pick is a simple yet powerful tool to use in your family, a sharing circle, a classroom or in your own daily reflection to deepen your awareness of the gifts of character.

How to do a Virtues Pick

INDIVIDUAL
During your daily reflections, gently shuffle your Virtues Cards and without looking, pick one. You may wish to hold a question in your mind before picking the virtue such as “What virtue do I need today?” or “What virtues will help me to solve this problem?” Spend a few moments reading and reflecting on the virtue. Don’t be surprised if things happen that call on you to practice this virtue. Allow yourself to go through the day mindful of the spiritual gifts this virtue offers.

GROUP
Fan the virtues cards and have each person pick “without looking.” Then in a small sharing circle of three or in the group as a whole, each person shares while others remain in respectful silence. The person who is sharing: (1) Reads the Virtue Card aloud or listens as someone else reads; (2) Shares how this virtue speaks to them in light of what is happening in their life; (3) Shares what gift this virtue offers, either as an acknowledgement of what they are already doing or a call to do something new; (4) Others in the sharing circle remain silent and deeply present, and when the speaker is finished, they acknowledge the person for virtues they see in him or her. Then the next person shares, and so on until each person has had a turn.

This app is a partnership between the Virtues Project International Association, the governing body of The Virtues Project™ and Dara Feldman, Master Virtues Project Facilitator.
