กระทรวงอุตสาหกรรม และ สทอภ. ในฐานะ กภช. ร่วมกันพัฒนาระบบภูมิสารสนเทศด้านอุตสาหกรรม เพื่อการบริหารจัดการพื้นที่เชิงเศรษฐกิจ ด้านความสอดคล้องของการเพาะปลูกอ้อยให้มีความเหมาะสมกับอุตสาหกรรมน้ำตาล สำหรับการวิเคราะห์ผลผลิตอ้อยและคาดการณ์ถึงปริมาณน้ำตาลที่เข้าสู่ตลาด เพื่อพัฒนาศักยภาพของผู้ประกอบการ รวมทั้งลดกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมและชุมชน โดยนำระบบภูมิสารสนเทศช่วยบริหารจัดการปัญหาเชิงตำแหน่งในภาคอุตสาหกรรม ที่จากเดิมยังไม่มีการเชื่อมโยงกับตำแหน่งทางภูมิศาสตร์
