What's New in the Latest Version 12

Old Versions
First update in four years! That’s not too bad for a 10-year old app. Still, this is a quite small update. This fixes glitches in recent versions of iOS, and especially makes sure the referenced bike-sharing systems are still working properly. Cheers!

This was supposed to be a very small update to fix a crash at launch on the latest iOS version. However, simply using the latest Xcode tools enabled Dark Mode for Bicyclette. Yay!

Electric and regular Velibs, San Francisco, and Lille.

Velib:
* The app now uses another data source. That is to say, one that works. Let’s just say that the opendata feed isn’t yet completely up to the task.
* Other important improvement: the app now displays electric and regular bikes count separately.

Elsewhere:
* Improved the display for the Ford GoBike service in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is now displayed in three separate zones (San Francisco, San Jose and East Bay).
* Fixed the availabilities for the V’Lille bikes.

Everywhere:
* Availabilities are now correctly reloaded at launch time.
* Adjusted the map background; motorways are slightly dimmed.

Vélib’ 2, La Rochelle, GBFS and iPhone X.

NEW AND SHINY

* Support for the new Vélib service, using the official Paris opendata API. This API doesn’t indicate which bikes are actually electric, but I hope I’ll find a workaround.
* iPhone X screen size support, along some adjustments and fixes
* New icon by @thibautsailly <3

* Other Cities and Services
* Added support for GBFS. GBFS is the “General Bikeshare Feed Specification”, used by many new and existing services. See an official list here: https://github.com/NABSA/gbfs/blob/master/systems.csv
* Switched to the new opendata API for La Rochelle (Yélo)
* Switched to the new opendata API for Strasbourg (Velhop)
* Switched to an official API for Orléans (Cykléo)

OLD AND RUSTY

* Under the hood: modernize and cleanup my objc code. Use UIAlertController, NSUrlSession, dot-properties.
* Party like it’s 2013.
* Removed support for the Vélocéa system in Vannes. The new service, Vélocéo, should begin operating in 2018.
* Removed support for Seattle Pronto Cycle Share, the service stopped a while ago. The city is currently experimenting with other partners, we’ll see how it goes.

The latest update was inadvertently incompatible with 32-bit devices (basically, iPhone 5 and older). I was so excited to modernize the project that I got a little too far.

Nothing happened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

We update the app regularly so we can make it better for you. Get the latest version for all of the available features and improvements. Thanks for using Bicyclette.

Whatever. It’s been two years.

* Fixed networks that stopped working in the app: Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Lille, Rennes, Brisbane, Dublin, as well as San Francisco and San Jose.
* Added new networks by Smoove: Moscow, Marrakech, Vancouver, Helsinki, Bangkok and Melaka, Astana, Almaty and Shymkent.
* Fixed sudden app freezes.
* Improved the “favorites” display mode.
* Various improvements. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry for the wait… and for the crashes under iOS 8.3. Here’s what’s new in version 6 :

FAV
That new star-shaped button doesn’t just use up precious screen real-estate: tap it to center the map on your favorite stations, and dim the other ones (the non-favorites.) It only makes sense if you actually starred your favorite stations. But it’s okay, we don’t judge.

RT
Other than that
• The status bar (at the top) now stays visible all the time. Make reading time much more practical.
• When restarting, the map stays where it was before you left.
• One new bike-sharing system: Seattle Pronto Cycle Share.
• One fixed system: Taipei Youbike.
• And, of course, the usual various small fixes and tweaks. Like crashes in iOS 8.3.

As is always the case, there were a few bugs in the latest version. Here’s a fix.

• Station notifications in english now properly indicate that there’s no free dock when there’s no free dock. Instead of the contrary.
• The In-app donations had been removed in version 3, but it was still mentioned in the App Store. This should be gone.
• The corners of the App Store icon weren't correctly rounded. It should be fixed now. Yes, this is the kind of fix that deserves a new version.
• If you’re curions, there’s no a link from the preference to the Data Sources and Credits. It’s fairly technical.

--- VERSION 3.0

BETTER FLAT THAN NEVER

Redesigned the app just in time before iOS 7 looks old-fashioned. But it’s for the best. Glitches were fixed, pixels were cut clean.

CITIES & SERVICES

* Bicyclette now works with SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bike Share: in San Francisco, San Jose, Redwood City, Palo Alto and Mountain View. Startup and Silicon Valley hipsters, this one’s for you.
* Added support for COLUMBUS CITY COGO, in Columbus, Ohio.
* Added proper support for PUBLIBIKE systems in Swiss. The previous version worked with the old “Vélopass” systems, but it stopped working after Vélopass merged with PubliBike.
* Removed support for the BCycle services (a dozen systems in the USA), as it was no longer working. It may or may not come back in a future release.
* Removed support for the (now closed) ViaCycle systems in Las Vegas, Georgia Tech and George Mason University.
* Fixed support for Yélo in La Rochelle.

SO MUCH INFORMATION. SO LITTLE SPACE.

One day, I’ll have to write a technical blog post about Zooming User Interfaces. (Just google this.) When the map is zoomed out to an entire city, what should we display? Many nights were spent finding the answer to this question. Spoiler: POI clustering is bad. (Just google that.)

SIXTH SENSE

The geolocated notifications have been enhanced: now, whenever you approach one of your favorite stations, Bicyclette tells you the number of bikes available in this station, as well as the number of free docks at your destination station.
