About CodeDefence
CodeDefence is a tower defence game, designed to support beginner C# programmers during their early learning stages. Battle your way through multiple game levels, answering programming questions along the way to earn extra coins!
- Play through multiple game levels based around classic tower defence gameplay, with one simple twist: your main currency is earned by answering programming questions correctly
- Each level has its own set of questions, each one based around a specific area of basic C# programming: variables, functions, classes, and statements
- Use different turret types to battle various enemy types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses to each attack method
This game was created as part of a university project, designed to measure the benefits of using a serious game to support beginner programmers during their studies. This game cannot teach programming, and is primarily designed to test a beginner programmer's own knowledge on the go.
This has now been completed, and as a result, the player performance tracking code has been removed, and all performance data has been deleted from the database, as this is no longer needed. The game will still play as normal without the performance tracking functionality. A massive thanks to everybody who has played in any way for helping out with this project!
Although the game is currently limited to one language, four levels, and only a small set of questions, these areas will be expanded on in the future!

Originally, this game was designed to support my university research project. This has now been completed, and as a result, the player performance tracking code has been removed, and all performance data has been deleted from the database, as this is no longer needed. A massive thanks to everybody who has played in any way for helping out with this project! The game will still play as normal without this functionality, and I hope to continue to add more features in the future!
Other changes in this update include:
- Optimised various areas of the game (specifically baked lighting) to reduce storage space usage by almost half!
- Added support for Apple ProMotion displays
- Added enhanced automatic error reporting, which will allow for easier bug fixes in the future
- Removed player performance tracking, database submissions, and pre/post gameplay testing (these features were added to support research relating to the game, and are no longer required)
- Updated to latest Unity version and made various small performance tweaks
- Fixed a couple of small non-critical gameplay bugs
