About Make It Green Fitness

A heart rate based fitness app, designed to run entirely from your Apple Watch, Make It Green has two simple workout modes ...

1. Target Workout Mode - beginners start here

Our Target Workout Mode helps you maintain either a low, moderate, or high level of intensity throughout your activity.

Continuous, automated, heart rate tracking figures out your workout intensity with every heartbeat. We use your resting heart rate, calculated using our new Resting Rate Detector to compute your heart rate range, then, our easy to read dial places you either IN or OUT of your chosen low, moderate, or high intensity target heart rate zone. We do all the math for you so all you need to do is make the dial green.

2. Progressive Workout Mode

For users who want to really challenge themselves, our Progressive Workouts are designed to help you improve your performance from one workout to the next.

We measure your intensity using your heart rate, then we compare your current effort to either your previous or most intense workouts. Your results are displayed in real time on our easy to read dial - telling you explicitly whether or not you are working out harder than the last time.

Features
- Make It Green can close those rings! We are fully integrated into Apple’s HealthKit platform, and you can view your workout data directly from Apple’s Activity app.
- Once set up, Make It Green can run entirely on your Apple Watch, no phone required, before during or after your workout!
- Designed from the ground up to take advantage of the Apple Watch’s state of the art heart rate sensor.
- Works with just about any exercise activity, you can even mix and match; run one day then bike the next.

We have Improved our app instructions. Tapping “getting started” on the landing page now directs users through multiple ten second long instructional videos.

We have lowered the intensity increase between workouts when a user makes it green. Users who want to increase their intensity more between workouts can select “x1” “x2” “x3” or if they wish to stop their increase altogether can select “Stop”

When a user makes it harder or easier on their watch, a drop down appears helping them better visualize their intensity range.

In mirror mode on the watch we now display calories burned and target range. Both values will now appear during a workout as long as the user has permitted Make it Green access to their calories burned data and or have entered their resting heart rate information.

We have added a Help section directly into the Mirror screen

We have update some of our user interface elements to make text more readable.

1. We have fully integrated our app into Apple's HealthKit. By providing Make it Green with permission to write data, users will start to see their workouts in Apple's activity app on their mobile phone. Make it Green will also contribute to their Activity Rings.

2. We now use Apple's Active Energy data to calculate your Calories burned. This data can also be saved to your HealthKit Data.

3. ADVANCED users can now calculate their resting heart rate on new and pre-existing routines. When a user provides this information they will see their intensity displayed as a percentage of their target heart rate range. Very useful!

4. Users can now easily set a weekly goal in minutes. We will do the math and subtract from this goal each time you go for a workout using Make It Green.

5. We have clarified and shortened our first workout sampling. Users are now directed to set their pace manually for their first workout by using either the crown or the harder / easier buttons.

6. After a user ends a workout they can view their intensity increase in Beats Per Minute. Users can also cancel or double this increase. Doubling the increase makes their next workout harder. Canceling the increase keeps the workout intensity the same.

7. We have included Google Analytics to help us improve our user experience. In accordance with Apple's and Googles policies we have updated our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use to alert our users of these changes.

1.6.2 Version bump changes

1. Added additional introductory material explaining to users how they can adjust, then match, their heart rate target on the Apple Watch.

2. Added an alert to the live activity screen on the Apple Watch that lets users know how to set permissions to allow their heart rate information to be read.

1.5.1
Aug 11, 2017
** In addition to the changes found in 1.5 (see below),
- 1.5.1 fixes a bug that improperly sent new users to the wrong landing page and app introduction page.

For beginners and experts alike, we have greatly simplified and streamlined our overall experience as well as improved the look and feel of the entire application.

More automation!
- Users can start off at wherever pace they like, slow or fast. Whatever your pace or activity, we analyze the first half of your first workout then automatically adjust how hard you need to work out to make it green.

More control!
- Users now always have control over how hard they need to push themselves to make it green. Too hard or too easy? Just turn the crown and we will automatically recalculate your target.

Easier setup!
- All you need to do to start a new routine is provide your routine name, age, and the amount of minutes you would like to work out for.

Advanced calorie calculation
- We have included a calorie estimate that uses a formula that takes into account a user's average beats per minute. After a user works out they can enter their biological gender and weight information, we then save this information in their routine info and recalculate this new post workout caloric info. We plan on continuing to improve on the accuracy of this calculation in future releases.

Bug fixes and other changes

1. Fixed an issue that kept a workout from appearing to complete when in mirror mode on the mobile phone app.
2. When a user pauses their workout their bpm is replaced with the words "paused," before it might have appeared that the workout was still running.
3. Originally, when a user exceeded their maximum heart rate the application automatically stopping the workout. Now users are warned but their workout will continue in the background. This prevents the user from continuing their workout without the application running in the background thereby inadvertently extending a high intensity workout.

General safety improvements

1. High intensity workout warning
- Whenever a user creates or builds up to and exceeds a workout intensity of 8.5, they will be warned before starting a new workout. We want to make sure new users or users who are new to exercising do not select an intensity level that is too high.

2. Added "...detecting heart rate..." label to Live Activity screen
- Sometimes the Apple Watch will not be able to detect and return new heart rate samples to Make It Green. Approximately 15 seconds after this happens a label reading "...detecting heart rate..." will pop up so the user does not inadvertently increase their intensity or think that the app has stalled.
1.3
Jul 6, 2017
Overall we have improved the algorithms that make the app "smarter." Below is a more detailed list of changes.

1. Added a function that measures previous workouts and compares your most recently completed workout to this recent history.
- This feature will detect if you workout out a lot harder than previous workouts and make your next workout a little more challenging.
- Inversely, this will also detect if your workout became a lot more challenging and will limit or even decrease your next workout's intensity.

2. Overall intensity increase has been normalized across age groups and groups with different resting heart rates.
- Typically a user who starts a routine at the lowest intensity setting 0 will now take approximately 100 workouts or 5 workouts a week for 5 months to reach the highest intensity level, provided they make it green and do not provide feedback that increases or decreases their intensity levels. This increase affects all ages and resting heart rates about the same. Most users should not see a difference, however, some users who had a shorter intensity range will see smaller increases in the amount of effort they will need to exert in order to "make it green" from one workout to the next.
1.2

1. Improved the green dial so it is more sensitive to changes when working out harder.
2. Fixed a bug that displayed the wrong intensity range when listing your routines.
3. General improvements and testing improvements.

IMPORTANT CHANGES 1. We have removed Apple Health platform's resting heart rate integration in our Static Workout Mode. Our in app resting heart rate detection tool provides our users with a more controlled, consistent, and informed resting heart rate reading, especially in users who wear their Apple Watch primarily while exercising. 2. All user input for our Heart Rate range calculation is completed on the Apple Watch. All data can be confirmed and updated before each and every workout. We think this provides a much more straight forward, centralized user experience. 3. We have updated both our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. 3.0.6 changes Fixed a bug where if a user manually set their resting heart rate in version 3.0.4, that heart rate was used instead of one generated by our resting heart rate generator.
