About Modern Driving Log

Getting your driver's license is amazing. Making sure you comply with all of the requirements sucks. Modern Driving Log helps you track your practice hours of driving instruction you need to get your license, then generates a DMV-ready form in states where it's required so you're ready for the road ahead.

Unlike other apps, Modern Driving Log is tuned specifically for the requirements of each state. Currently, it supports the licensing requirements of Texas, California, New York, New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio. Other states coming soon!

Texas requires more detail then other states in order to get a license. Modern Driving Log is the only app that allows you to log the focus of each practice session according to the Texas Behind-The-Wheel Instruction Guide then generates a DPS-ready driving log once you finish your 30 hours.

Modern Driving Log is custom tuned for each state's requirements. In states with single-skill focused practice, like Texas, the app provides an ability to select the focus of the session according to the official practice log. In other states, we provide a list of skills designed to match the requirements of the official practice log*.

Modern Driving Log doesn't ask you to record time. Instead, just tap to start driving and the app automatically tracks drive time and calculates day/night hours based on the local sunrise and sunset time.

Modern Driving Log tracks the observer of each session. To add observers, you just have to scan their license** or enter their information. At the end of each session, the app collects signatures from your phone.

Modern Driving Log displays your progress, letting you track how close you are to getting a license.

Your data is securely synced to iCloud, allowing you to access your driving log on multiple devices and share it with others. Driver's license numbers are protected with an additional layer of encryption, making them unreadable except with the key stored privately on your device's keychain.

For parents of siblings, we even support keeping track of multiple students simultaneously with one app (in app purchase required).

In states that require it, Modern Driving Log even creates a DMV-Ready practice log (in our supported states, this is currently only required by Texas and New Mexico).

Modern Driving Log is the best app for tracking your driving hours.

*In New Mexico, no skills are listed to match the official practice log.
**License scanning is only supported in Texas, New Mexico and New York

This update brings Modern Driving Log to iCloud, allowing you to share your log with multiple people.
Your data will be migrated to iCloud the first time you open the app. This shouldn't cause any issues, but if it does, your data prior to this update is safely backed up on your device. Email us at ben@bensites.com if you have any problems updating.

This update also shrinks the space used on the Texas DPS driving log form by merging practice sessions from multiple days and the same observer together and trimming whitespace.

This patch to the prior update enables accepting share requests.

Sometimes things are just too long: Lord of the Rings movies, DMV lines, update messages and driving practice sessions (at least according to the Texas DPS). This update fixes a bug where Texas residents could log more than an hour of driving a day.
