About PerfectPower

PerfectPower, the automotive reference on-board system in power and performances measurements!

PerfectPower is, in the form of a revolutionary smartphone application, the automotive reference on-board system in power and performances measurements, the one with the best price / reliability of results / variety of features / operational independence ratio!

It has four major goals:
- Measure the standardized engine power, accelerations (standing and flying start), and max speed of your car
- Simulate all the performances of your car (accelerations -standing and flying start-, max speed, ideal maximum revs)
- Measure lap times on track
- Perform engine development with the same efficiency as on chassis dynamometer

And it achieves all this with an exceptional accuracy established theoretically AND proven in practice of +- 1% on average of two measurements for power measurements, which are both its speciality and the most interesting measurements of all in automobile mechanic! Such accuracy is made possible by the accurate, permanent, and clever combination of the informations of the phone accelerometer and the GPS, knowing how to take the best of both sensors while eliminating the specific disadvantages when used individually. What - useful precision - is not done without efforts: it is the result of hundreds of hours of work, but also of high skills in physics and mathematics, that myself David Mettey creator of the application have, both by my training and my experience.

Such accuracy can even be further improved and go well below the % by using an external GPS of 10 Hz minimum communicating via Bluetooth with the application. I currently recommend the SkyPro XGPS 160 (10 Hz & 2.5 m average horizontal accuracy), compatible with PerfectPower via a third-party Bluetooth GPS app, but I plan to add soon the driving of the RaceBox Mini (25 Hz & 0.3 m average horizontal accuracy).

In summary, here is exactly what you will need to use PerfectPower with an optimal efficiency:
- The application
- An external GPS of 10 Hz minimum communicating via bluetooth with the application (not essential, but recommended)
- The Wixgear universal magnetic windshield mount (not essential, but recommended)
- Perform your measurements in both directions of the road (if possible of course) and ask PerfectPower to average them in order to eliminate the very real influence of the slope of the road and the wind on the results

When these conditions are met, PerfectPower has proven that:
- It was as accurate for power measurements as the best chassis dynamometer (Rotronics Autoscan FI 4x4 synchronized)
- It was as accurate for acceleration measurements as the best "all-public" external GPS (RaceBox Mini)

Ces deux modes permettent:
- le calcul automatique et permanent du pitch, fourni comme un résultat de mesure
- la suppression de l'obligation de son paramétrage, bien que le pitch soit évidemment encore nécessaire pour les mesures dans l'ancien mode
- Une dépendance à la qualité de la fixation du téléphone nettement diminuée: légers jeux de téléphone tolérés (supports pare-brise acceptés), tous niveaux de vibrations tolérés, légers désalignements tolérés
- Une dépendance au profil et à l'Ètat de la route nettement diminuée (attention cependant: cela modifie toujours les performances de la voiture, mais affecte beaucoup moins la précision intrinsèque de la mesure)

On y perd certes légèrement en précision, mais on y gagne en manœuvrabilité et en facilité d'utilisation, ce nouveau mode permettant des reprises en départ lancé et jusqu'aux vitesses les plus élevées

4) Amélioration du filtrage des grandeurs mesurées dans les modes accélération et puissance, permettant:
- Une amélioration de la précision des résultats (accélérations, puissance) et des courbes (accélération, vitesse, puissance, couple)
- Une plus grande tolérance aux mesures de puissance faites avec des supports pare-brise (provoquant des mouvements de téléphone néfastes à la fiabilité des résultats et générateurs de monstrueuses vibrations), et/ou sur mauvaises routes, et aux vitesses "élevées" des mesures en 3ème

5) Récupération automatique des données météo dans le monde entier avec correction altimétrique (QNH --> QFE), et délivrance d'un bulletin de localisation (coordonées GPS, altitude, nom de la station météo où les infos sont récupérées)

6) Révision intégrale de la gestion du contrôle des mesures, avec notamment l'ajout d'informations pour les nouveaux modes, la suppression d'anciennes informations inutiles, et la suppression du bloquage de mesure en cas de vibrations excessives (puisque celles-ci ne sont plus un obstacle aux mesures), maintenant passées en "warning"

7) Amélioration de la loi d'adhérence du simulateur de performances, plus adaptée aux pneus récents et développée plus empiriquement par des tests de motricité sur différentes voitures

8) Légère modification de la gamme des trigger (de 0,1 --> 2,0 m/s2 à 0,5 --> 2,0 m/s2)

9) Baisse de la durée maxi d'attente mesure de 15s à 10s

10) Remplacement de la condition d'arrêt de mesure sur la distance (à 1100m) par une condition d'arrêt sur 5 secondes de décélération consécutives; les deux autres conditions d'arrêt restent (freinage violent et 60s de mesure)

11) Modifications et retouches esthétiques de l'écran Test (notamment ajout d'un chronomètre, d'un compteur de vitesse GPS, d'un indicateur de distance, et d'un indicateur de précision horizontale du GPS)

12) Modifications des fiches Voitures (ajout d'un champ et de textes informatifs) et des fiches Résultats (ajout du nom de la voiture à qui appartient le résultat)

13) Modification de la procédure de calibration désormais continue, avec ajout de nouvelles images afin de mieux illustrer les différentes étapes

14) Retouches mineures et diverses (textes, ajout d'images et suppression d'autres, échelle des graphiques, couleurs, etc)
