Updated SportsEngine Integration!
Recently SportsEngine has changed the way Big Time Coach applications integrate with their API. Going forward, your Website Administrator must create a new API with the re-direct link from Practice Planner. Then the administrator can share the key with league Practice Planner users, and they may set up their integration.
This is based on policy changes for API usage at SportsEngine.
This new version now has views that allow you to use the API information from SportsEngine (Website Settings -> API Client Apps), and set up integration with SportsEngine.
This can be done in two ways:
1) Select "More" from the navigation menu, then select "Extras", and finally "SportsEngine Integration"
2) Provide your SportsEngine administrator with the "Redirect URI" from the integration page
3) After your administrator has added the API entry, you may add the identity and secret keys to Practice Planner
Once those steps are complete - you will be able to integrate directly with your SportsEngine website.

Updated Timing and Notifications
To support iOS 12 we have made an adjustment to the Practice Timer functions:
- Change the timer text on practices. We've added a new larger timer label in the lower portion of the screen. This makes tracking time remaining better because we can display both total remaining time, and the time remaining for the current practice block.
- Update notifications to ensure both phone and apple watch will present notifications that you can respond to without opening the application on your phone.

Added CDC Concussion Protocol!
With more awareness of the impact concussions have on players, States and organizations like Little League International have begun rolling out Concussion Protocol programs. These new programs are based on the Center for Disease Control 's "Heads Up" campaign and include training, documentation, and processes.
Big Time Coach has made it easy for anyone documenting an Injury to add Concussion Protocol to their report. If players head is involved in an Injury - baseball to the face for example - simply choose "Concussion Protocol" from the First Aid Information view, and go through the questions.
Injury report will record the results, and include a Concussion Protocol document with your Injury Report pdf document.
We've even added a signature for the person performing the protocol and a date stamp so that Teams and Leagues can add these documents into their own processes!
iPhone X Updates:
With the iPhone X arriving, we've done a 2nd round of optimizations for the new screen format. If you're lucky enough to have an iPhone X, you'll find everything works very well.

We were notified of a crash (thank you for enabling crash reporting) on 10/10/2017 that would happen with certain combinations of filters (age + type) when viewing Drill Cards from the Drills listing.
We were able to identify the cause, and quickly make a change to ensure this does not continue.
We hope the crash did not inconvenience our coaches too much as it was restricted to certain combinations within the Drills listing.

SportsEngine®
Per the suggestion of our partners at SportsEngine® we've modified the team selection interface to filter out teams that are no longer active. These teams or leagues are setup with either Disabled or Private status, and are filtered in the SportsEngine® App so we're going to follow along.
Of note: if you have a team downloaded previously, that team will still work fine. You just will not be able to see the teams who are not currently active.

New Import/Export Method
After working with AirDrop, we found a better method of doing Import/Export for Practices and Drills. You'll simply choose practices or drills from the list, and Practice Planner will create a specialized file that the person who receives the file merely select it from email on their mobile device.
This eliminates the dependency on DropBox, and makes even greater sharing possible.
For example, if you are a league and want to share a set of practices - or drills - for a specific division, you may create an export and save the file to your League website. Then the person may simply navigate to the site, and install the practices or drills.
We hope leagues and other groups can take advantage of this new feature!
Navigation Consolidation
We're taking an opportunity to bring our new 'Action List' navigation features over from the iPad. These have been a hit as we can remove buttons and clutter in some views. The Team Detail view in particular has been cleaned up so that actions which are not take as often have been moved to the 'Actions' list.
Improved Apple Watch Notifications
Tighter integration with the Apple Watch to ensure delivery of practice timing notifications. If you have an Apple Watch, don't forget to enable notifications and installation in the Watch app on your iPhone.
Minor Updates and Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where users still on iOS 9 could not login to SportsEngine®.
Changed the Practice Summary view to display completion of blocks with status indicators. This helps reduce the clutter on this very often used view. There are other small changes all over the app working to make it easier to use.
iOS 11 and Watch OS 4 Ready
You may upgrade to iOS 11 and Watch OS 4 with the knowledge that Practice Planner will continue to function as it aways has!
Integration with the Apple Watch has been improved and updated to work with Watch OS 4.
First Pass iPhone X Support
Of course we do not have an iPhone X yet, but we can simulate it so we have done some updating to allow for the differences in the iPhone X curved screen. We'll refine it as phones be come available, but this first pass should help those lucky enough to get the first batch of iPhone X's.

AirDrop Practices
We've been asked for an easy way to share practices especially with coaches, assistants, anyone else helping with a practice, or even a parent wanting more information. If the person you wish to share a practice with has an iPhone 5 or newer you just need to touch a couple of buttons to AirDrop the Practice to them!
How it works: in the practice summary view you touch the sharing button and choose either:
- AirDrop to Friend
- AirDrop to Team Member
If you choose AirDrop to Team Member, the person you share with will receive all of the Practice information you've setup including player assignments to drills, schedule dates, completion status, and block duration, Drills, etc.
In addition, the person you share will will also receive your full Team information including Team Staff, and any contacts you may have added.
If you choose AirDrop to Friend, the Practice will be shared without any of the Scheduling or Team information so that the person receiving the Practice may assign it to their team, and use it as they wish.
In testing we've found that AirDrop is a great way to share the practice with coaches so that everyone is on the same page when running stations. We hope you like this great new feature!
AirDrop Teams
Similar to practices, if wish to share a team you have setup a team in Practice Player simply choose the AirDrop option after you have touched the Export/Update button in your Team Detail View. The person you sharing the team with will receive the full set of team information including Staff, Roster, and any contacts you have added.
Air Drop Drills
Ever want to quickly share a drill with another Practice Planner user? Now it's a simply a matter of touching the share button in the Drill Detail View. You'll share your drill within seconds!
SportsEngine® Updates
- We found that in some cases teams to select rosters from were not being filtered based on the most current season. This has been addressed to ensure you only see the current teams (active season and sub-season) from your SportsEngine® site.
DropBox Update
- Converted DropBox integration to API v2: This is a small impact, but all Big Time Coach folders will be moved to a common 'App' area in DropBox. This allows you to find and manage the import files in a more straightforward manner.
New Team Deletion and Practice Assignment Function
Many of our coaches re-use practices season over season. The challenge is we don't want to copy all of them over when we change teams. To the rescue comes the new team deletion and practice assignment function!
Now when you have a new team, you can choose to delete the old team and assign all of the practices from old team to new. This creates the baseline practice script that you may use as the baseline for the new team. All of the player records are cleared so the practice set is a blank canvas ready to adjust and re-use!
We also understand that creating practices is hard work so you'll also be able to save practices to a new team on-they-fly. Simple choose the assignment option when you delete at team, and then create the new team in the assignment view. The practices will be re-assigned and saved for later use.
Typically our coaches create a unique team to save practices to so that they have them at their disposal season over season.
Navigation and View Changes
After some comments from coaches we reviewed a few of the views and have updated navigation or functions for the following:
- Equipment Lists: These were difficult to read so we've changed them all to a better 'sheet' type view that slides over the main view.
- Contacts for Players: In the old position the contacts were difficult to read. These have been changed to the better 'sheet' type view as well.
- Drag / Drop Views: Comments were that it was unnatural to drag from right to left so we changed all of these views to drag from left to right for a more natural flow.

Other Updates - Bug Fixes
Another big update are the new Import/Update features for Practices, Drills/Activities, and new for this release Rosters!
Import/Export has gained greatly by leveraging the new technology we're using for the setup and update of base data as well as the change over to DropBox v2 API.
The newest feature is Roster Updates - you may now export csv file for your team, update the phone numbers and emails, and then import it back into Practice Planner. This will save you from typing in all of the information especially when you are using SportsEngine for creating your teams.
Also - one more thing... Because we're asking you to login to TeamSnap, SportsEngine, and other partners, we've integrated 1Password functionality into all the login screens! If you are a 1Password user - hopefully you are - Now you may use 1Password to fill in those pesky logins.
Much more to come of course - always working to improve our apps!

Per coaches input from our forum (forum.bigtimecoach.com), we've enhanced the Practice Block copy functions in the following ways:
- Copy Player Assignments: When copying a block, you may choose to copy over the player assignments.
- Create Stations With Block Copy: Normally a tedious process, you may now copy a block with multiple drills and choose to 'Create Station Rotations'. When you do so, you will get as many blocks as there are drills - thus creating a Station Rotation for the practice. In addition, if you have assigned players to the drills in the block being copied and choose to copy them... Practice Planner will copy the players and 'rotate' the player assignments through each drill so that players will move to each station in turn.
- Quick Practice: Coach Denten asked for something along these lines, but we needed to gather additional input to clarify the need and create a process that will work for our coaches. You start by marking a practice as a 'favorite' in the Practice Detail view. Once you have favorites, you'll be able to create a quick practice base on the favorite and go right into timing.
- Calendar Integration: Another request from coaches, we've added the ability for you to choose the calendar option form the Practice Detail view, and automatically have a new event added to you personal calendar. The even will be displayed on all your iOS and macOS devices linked via iCloud so you won't miss a practice! Make changes to the start date or other elements in the practice, and we'll sync them up to your calendar for you.
- Filtering Drills by Age: We've updated the age range for drills, and added filtering to the Practice Block Drill view so that the available drills are filtered based on the range you have specified for your team. Of course you may override the default range from you team to select any drills you would like to use for the practice.
- Practice Filtering: We never really liked how the practice filtering worked. Now all of the filtering functions have been moved to the top of the Practice List View so that you may filter by status, by team, and even change the summary view to display more facts about the each practice. Much, much easier than before and we hope you like the change.
These features are the direct result of feedback through our forum that result in new features being added to our apps.

Updates & Changes
There were many things that our users and coaches provided feedback on, and with that feedback we've made some big changes and a lot of little ones to help make practice planner easier for everyone to use.
Voice Dictation for Text Fields: This is a huge win for everyone who is adding drills themselves! Now you can leverage Apples dictation functions by touching the microphone icon on the keyboard when editing any text field. It works great for new drills as you can get most of what you want entered, and then merely edit to apply the final polish. A real time saver and we'll be adding this functionality to all of our apps over the next few months.
Action Enabled Notifications: This feature has been long requested by our coaches. Allow selection of actions (stop timing, start next block, finish timing) from a notification. This allows you to quickly move the practice along without having to open up the app! In the lock screen or Notification Center, you swipe from right to left to reveal the actions. If your phone is not locked, you pull down on the banner to reveal the actions and select one. iPhone 6s, 6s+, 7, and 7+ may all use force touch to open notifications and take action.
As an added benefit - those of you who have an apple watch and use it for your practices (we do!), you can respond to the notifications right on your wrist without ever having to pull your phone out of your pocket or bag!
Updated Practice Summary View: This coincides with the change to practice creation navigation (more on that below). We've added a tool bar at the base of the summary, and moved the Copy, Injury Report, Equipment, and Details buttons onto that tool bar. This cleans up the interface quite a bit, and gave us room to add a new 'Blocks' button as well. Also we quadrupled the the size of the time counter which makes it so much easier to track time elapsed.
We've also made a big change to the timing interfaces on the Practice Summary View - this helps with notifications, and makes it much cleaner when timing practices. This includes a new 'slide over' feature on the Drill details that is much more intuitive than before.
Change to New Practice Navigation: One big frustration from our Baseball Practice Planner users has been the navigation when creating a new practice plan. In the past you had to navigate all the way out to the list of practices to move back into the Practice Summary view. Needless to say, this was frustrating for so many reasons. With this update you'll be able to go directly to the practice summary from the practice detail view when you're creating a new practice plan. We think you'll find this a great change in efficiently creating new practices.
Updated Block Completion Logic: part of a big update to the practice timers as part of the new action-enabled notifications - the logic is refined to ensure manually changing block status properly updates preceding blocks (marking complete), or following blocks (marking incomplete).
Practice Drill Steps - the drill setup text was in need of a clean up and so we've some some clean up work to make all of the drill steps much more readable.
Drill Cards - Fixed an annoying bug where cards would scroll down about 25% of the way from the top of the text forcing users to scroll back to the top.
Other Updates and Bug Fixes: we found a number of small things that were introduced through iOS 10 that were not identified in our last version, those issues along with many small bug fixes have been addressed in this release.
