About Transport for Edinburgh

The travel app from Lothian has everything you need to get around Edinburgh with Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams.

INSTANT DEPARTURES
Open up the app and we'll show you live times for the three nearest stops near you
An interactive map shows you every bus and tram stop around you - just tap on one to bring up an instant departure board - perfect for comparing services at different stops.

SMART SEARCH
Want to get somewhere fast? Just search for a place, address, business name... anything, and we'll show you the best way to get there. You can also search for routes - we'll even show you if a bus is nearby and show you it moving on a map.

SATNAV FOR BUS & TRAM
Plan your commute, nights out or even just a trip to the shops - we use a real-time journey planning system that takes network delays into account when showing you the best way to get to your destination, with full step-by-step instructions.

SHARE YOUR JOURNEY
We've made it easy to let your friends and family know when you'll arrive - just track your bus using the app and share a link by email, Twitter, Facebook or WhatsApp. Your friends can track your bus online (they don't need the app) and see when you'll arrive.

M-TICKETS
Using the companion m-ticket app, you can purchase single tickets and DAYtickets for many of our services.

Finally, please note that the app requires data access and works best with GPS on. Please be aware the continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

The Transport for Edinburgh app now knows which bus you're on, and when you'll arrive at your destination.

It's something we've all done: boarded the bus, sat down and wondered - when will I reach my stop? You could search for the bus number in the app, but now there's an easier way - as soon as you board one of our buses, you'll see which bus it is right on the app's Home Screen, with live tracking for all upcoming stops.

This works with Next Stop Announcements on TFE Talk as well - now you don't need to type in the service number and destination to get announcements, the app knows which bus you're on automatically.

New in this release: Instant Live Tracking.

We've installed Bluetooth beacons on many of our buses, which means that the app can now know which bus you're on automatically. When you board a bus that has a beacon, you'll see a new Instant Live Tracking panel on the app's home screen - just tap to find out when your bus will arrive at each stop. This information is real-time, and is updated every 30 seconds.

Please note that for Instant Live Tracking to work, you'll need to give the app permission to use Bluetooth. When you open the app for the first time after updating it will ask you if you'd like to enable Bluetooth.

NEW: Apple Watch support, offline maps and quickly rename saved stops and places.

Apple Watch: now you can get live bus & tram times wherever you are, using your Apple Watch. The new TFE Apple Watch app is simple and clear - just three pages. The first page shows all departures from nearby stops (tap on a departure to bring up live progress). Swipe left to see all of your saved stops. Swipe left one more time to see all service updates and disruptions. You can add the app as a complication to your Watch face for quick access as well.

The Watch App doesn't require your iPhone to be close by - as long as you're within a known Wi-FI network, or using a Series 3 Watch with cellular, you can use the app anywhere. The Watch App requires WatchOS 4, so if you haven't updated already, now's the time!

Offline maps: we've added maps to the Routes tab - just tap on a map to download it for easy reference even if you don't have an internet connection.

Finally, you can now easily rename favourite stops and places in your Saved list - just tap on the 'three dots' button next to your favourite and choose 'Change Name' from the popup menu.

You spoke, we listened - we collected your feedback and developed the new Transport for Edinburgh app to make navigating our network even easier.

• BETTER NAVIGATION
We've reorganised the home screen - there are now five tabs (Home, Saved, Plan Trip, Routes and More) at the bottom of the screen for quick access

• INSTANT DEPARTURES
We know most of our customers use the app when they're at a bus or tram stop - so we've made life easier with instant departures. As soon as you open the app, we'll show you departure times for the three nearest stops to you, plus if you tap on any stop on the map, we'll show you a mini departure board - perfect for comparing departure times from different stops.

• SMARTER SEARCH
Now you can quickly find your destination - just start typing and we'll show you places, businesses and addresses that match your search. Not only that, but you can quickly search for routes or the bus you're on right now - simply type the service number to show all nearby buses that match.

• SAT-NAV FOR BUS & TRAM
Wouldn't it be great if your phone could track you on your trip, and let you know when your bus or tram is arriving as you approach the stop, or tell you when its time to leave? With step-by-step instructions you can stay informed every step of the way.

• SHARE YOUR JOURNEY
You're on a bus or tram, and you want to let someone know when you'll arrive - easy! The Live Progress screen now gives you the option to share your trip - send others a message through text, email, Facebook, Twitter or WhatsApp and they can follow your journey in real-time.

• SERVICE DISRUPTION NOTIFICATIONS
Go to the Routes tab, select a route and save it. Now we'll send you a notification if there's a severe incident or diversion that affects that routes (and again when everything's back to normal).

• LAST BUS ALARM
Just bring up a bus stop's departure board, tap on the three dots at the bottom-right, and choose 'Last Bus Alarm'. This will send you an alert to your phone 15 minutes and 5 minutes before your bus arrives at that stop.

There's a lot more, so update now and explore the app. As always, go into the More tab and tap on 'Send us feedback' to send us any suggestions you may have. Happy travels!
