About Trail Boss

Trail Boss is a mapping tool, navigator, and trip recorder for the outdoors enthusiast.

Trail Boss is ideal for:

While you are recording a trip Trail Boss will use GPS even if your phone is shut off. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Many of our users import routes from Apps like Trail Forks and use Trail Boss to follow the route because of our superior navigation features. Now its even better:



New off course alerts & distance remaining on the blue guidance line. An audible warning is sounded if you deviate from this line.



Create a blue guidance line from any trip in your Trip Log including imported routes: Select the trip onto the map and place the ⊹ on it. Tap the info button and select 'Navigate Along Track'.



Create a blue guidance line from your current location to anywhere on the map: Place the ⊹ over your destination then tap the (⊹) button. Select 'Navigate To Here'.



Go to 'Settings' - 'Sounds' to enable / disable this alert and set the off course sensitivity.



One more thing: you can now change the size of the magenta position arrow. Tap the arrow to see your options.

- New 'Placemark Annoucement' option. When you approach one of your placemarks its name will be announced on the iPhone speaker.

For example, you could mark a trail intersection with a placemark named "turn left", Trail Boss will announce this on the speaker when you get there.

Trail Boss users can now share trip tracks with just a couple of taps!

-To SHARE a trip track: Go to your Trip Log and tap a trip's 'Share' button and select 'With Trail Boss Community'. Your trip track is saved to our servers.


-To SEARCH and DOWNLOAD tracks that others have shared: Tap the search button on the Map Page and select 'Trail Boss Community Uploads'.



This is a new feature so our track database is still small. You can help the community by uploading a few of your favorite trips!

New 'Radio Code' feature for groups that carry radios while in the backcountry. Now you can transmit a simple radio code for others to enter and they will see your location on their map. Faster and less error prone than reciting latitude/longitude values.

-New Zoom Buttons option adds zoom in/out buttons to either the left or right side of the map page. Sometimes buttons are better than pinch-to-zoom.
-New Magnifier option 'Tap'. When this option is selected, the magnifier will momentarily pop up at the location you tap on the map. Tap is a good option if you mostly use the magnifier to briefly magnify street or trail names. 


-The App icon now shows a red badge when you are recording a trip.

New 'Share Location' option lets you quickly share your location with a text message or email. You can also share your placemark locations and any other location on the map.



Trips that have photos are now indicated in the Trip Log (the photo button will have a green border). 



The Advanced Filter now has an option to filter the Trip Log to show trips that have photos.



You can now share videos directly from the photo viewer page (formerly, you could only share photos).
