A while ago we had a vision - to build a product that not just connects you to the nearest guy for a date and sends you on your merry way - but one that invites you back long after the date is over. Something to help you stay in touch with your friends, but to also spark new friendships down the block or a thousand miles away. A way to seamlessly ask all your gay friends where they're headed tonight, but to also discover cool new bars, clubs, or events in your area. Something you can always come back to, whether you're looking for a date, a friend, a place to eat, go out, or to just browse around.
Until now, we couldn't execute on this vision because we had to start with something familiar; we had to first build the stage for our show. Today we're truly excited to unveil to you our first major stop on our roadmap towards realizing this ambitious goal: VGL 2.0.
With this update, you'll be able to create a unique VGL username, where your profile will be accessible from any device - iPhone, iPad, Android, or the mobile and desktop web - simply by visiting vgl.me/{your username} in any browser window. Send your unique link to any friend, or post it to your Facebook/Twitter/Blog/Instagram/Other profile and guys can access your VGL profile instantly.
You'll be able to amass a following of fans who are interested in hearing about what you've been up to or see pictures of new places you're visiting, and of course, pictures of you. You can also follow other guys whose updates you want to know about.
Best of all, you'll see updates from everyone you're following aggregated into a personalized feed where you can participate in conversations with your followers in your own private network.
And of course, you can still stay as private as you want. Don't want anyone to know the guys you're following? No problem. We've defaulted the following list to private for all existing users of VGL - it's up to you to make this list public if you'd like.
We've also enhanced profile photo galleries to make browsing through an unlimited number of photos a breeze. Keep uploading guys!
VGL 2.0 is built on top of VGL 1.0+, meaning everything you love about VGL is still there.
