About AIS Radar

AIS Radar displays AIS (Automatic Identification System) data received from marine AIS transponders/receivers such as the ExNC 101, Weatherdock easyAIS or Digital Yacht, over a WiFi network. For AIS devices without built-in WiFi support, an external serial-to-WiFi adapter such as the SEAMate1A® Lite, the Brookhouse iMux, the Roving Networks RN-370 or the Digi Connect® Wi-SP can be used. Alternatively, the application can display AIS data received from public internet AIS feeds such as the San Francisco Exploratorium.

IMPORTANT: Please note that you will need to have an AIS transponder or receiver device capable of sending AIS data over a WiFi connection. Please see the Support Website for information regarding supported devices and setup tips.

Features include:
* Radar PPI-like display of AIS targets with course/heading and speed information.
* Selectable display range.
* Symbols for different targets (vessels with AIS class A and class B transponders, SAR aircraft and navigation aids).
* Computes closest point of approach (CPA) and time to closest point of approach (TCPA) for AIS targets.
* CPA/TCPA warning: The app will warn if the CPA (distance) or TCPA (in minutes) of another vessel is below a specified minimum.
* Tap to select targets, double-tap to display detailed information about selected targets.
* Pinch gestures and +/- buttons to change display range.
* Different radar display modes: Heading Up, Course Up and North Up.
* Optionally hide slow moving (or non-moving) targets from Radar view.
* List and detail views for AIS targets, displaying all available information about a target in clear form.
* Viewer for AIS safety-related broadcast messages.
* Supports iPhone and iPad, in portrait or landscape orientation.
* AIS/NMEA data can be received via a TCP connection or UDP.

DISCLAIMER: This application is no replacement for professional marine equipment. Always adhere to the principles of good seamanship and use proper caution and common sense when commanding a ship.

Improvements to the user interface, specifically with CPA warnings, and a few minor bug fixes.
3.0
Apr 10, 2020
AIS Radar 3.0 now supports CPA/TCPA (Closes Point of Approach/Time to CPA) warnings: the app will warn you if you get too close to an approaching vessel. This feature can be enabled in Settings, and the minimum CPA (distance) and TCPA (time in minutes) can be specified.
Furthermore, the app adds support for newer iPhone and iPad models, as well as dark mode. A couple of minor improvements and bug fixes have also been done, and the code has been modernized.
2.3
Jan 14, 2016
Version 2.3 of AIS Radar can now receive AIS/NMEA data via UDP in addition to TCP. Furthermore, AIS Radar now supports the bigger display of the iPad Pro.
2.2
Oct 9, 2015
This version fixes a crash on iOS 9 when double-tapping a single target on the Radar screen.
2.1
Jun 17, 2015
Support for displaying AIS SART targets.
Fixed an issue where the application was not able to obtain the current position using the device's built-in GPS/GNSS receiver if configured to do so.
2.0
Jan 10, 2015
* Supports iPad in addition to iPhone, including iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
* Works in both portrait and landscape orientation.
* Optimized for iOS 8.
* Tap on a target on the radar screen to show information.
* Various improvements.
1.2
Mar 22, 2013
* Support for iPhone 5 (larger display).
* AISRadar can now use the position data from an external GPS/GNSS receiver (NMEA 0183 RMC sentences). This is useful in combination with AIS receivers that do not report your own position. For this to work, a NMEA multiplexer (such as the Brookhouse iMux) that can combine AIS and NMEA 0183 GPS data into a single data stream is required.
* Various minor improvements and optimizations.
