3.2
Mar 8, 2024
This version includes the most highly requested enhancement from the Beat Note community and more usability improvements based on your feedback!

New in this release:
- Finally, a flam articulation has been added to the snare drum! Choose the flam articulation the same way you would choose any other articulation. The grace note for the flam is placed just before the note it modifies and is tied to that note.
- Tapping a note to add an articulation now displays the "Articulations Bar," a panel with each articulation symbol and name. You can still tap to cycle through all available articulations for an instrument, and you can also tap or swipe directly inside the articulation bar, making it even easier to choose an articulation for an instrument. This is particularly helpful for instruments with many articulations, like the snare drum and hi-hat. (Thanks to Kevin, Zak, Ross, and Jesse for your feedback!)

Improved in this release:
- Sequencer Grid Swiping: Swiping to add or remove notes now "locks" you to the current instrument (notes cannot be added for adjacent instruments while swiping). Swiping also remembers whether you are adding or removing and only allows that action while swiping. (No more "toggling" notes.) Lastly, the swipe area has been increased to make adding or removing notes easier than ever. (Thanks, Dimitri!)
- The position of measure numbers on the Practice Beat screen and Exported PDFs have been moved to above the clef with italics to match music notation standards. (Thanks, Ross!)
- Music Notation Display: Improved spacing/margins between clef, time signature, repeat barline, first note, and last note (both in-app and exported PDFs). (Thanks, Ross!)
- Subscription Benefits: Certain advanced features are now exclusively available to Beat Note subscribers, unlocking even more powerful capabilities for creating and editing drum notations. Upgrade to a subscription to access these premium features and take your drumming experience to the next level!

Fixed in this release:
- My Beats & Edit Beat Screens: Fixed a bug where animations were not working correctly on iOS17.

Remember to check out the Beat Note roadmap under the Settings screen to learn about upcoming features and vote on user-requested ones.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Beat Note! I regularly update the app, and besides the above, this update also contains additional bug fixes and stability improvements. If you have any feedback, questions, or issues, please message me from Settings → Contact Support. I'd love to hear from you!

Feb 28, 2024
The theme of this release is "Your feedback helps make Beat Note better for everyone!" A massive round of applause and gratitude to all of the users who are sharing feedback and contributing to the Beat Note community. This release is for you!

New in this release:
- Diddle articulation has been added to the high tom, mid tom, floor tom, floor tom 2, ride cymbal, and ride bell (Thanks, Kevin!)
- A "Clear All Notes" button has been added to a drop-down menu that is accessible for all instruments to clear out all notes for a single instrument (Thanks, Ross, Kevin!)
- A "Clear" button has been added to the Sticking screen to clear all sticking assignments (Thanks, Kevin!)

Improved in this release:
- Tag names can now contain special characters for any language (Thanks, Hinrich!)
- Practice Beat Screen: Scrolling behavior improved to always show the current and upcoming measures clearly on the screen (Thanks, Hinrich!)
- Rests for bottom-stemmed notes no longer bump into snare drum notes (Thanks, Damian!)
- Edit Beat Screen: Increased size of the "・・・" button to make it easier to tap (Thanks, Hinrich!)
- Sticking: All sticking indicators are shown in uppercase regardless of articulation, as opposed to lowercase for unaccented notes and uppercase for accented notes (Thanks, T, Mike, Hinrich, Kevin, Jesse!)
- Ledger lines above the staff for cymbals are thicker and darker in color, so they are easier to see both in the app and in PDF exports (Thanks, Ross!)
- The Edit Measure information screen now includes descriptions of how sticking is placed depending on the selected voicing (Thanks, Bruce!)
- Added support for iOS17

Fixed in this release:
- Measure numbers are now correctly printed on PDF exports of Sheet Music template beats.
- A rare case where a duplicate beat creation error could occur has been resolved (Thanks, Zak!)
- Fixed a bug where beats using the Single Measure Exercises Worksheet would sometimes not correctly show exercises when scrolling (both practicing and editing beats)
- Fixed a bug where the diamond size would be smaller than expected for subdivisions smaller than 16th notes.

Remember to check out the Beat Note roadmap under the Settings screen to learn about upcoming features and vote on user-requested ones.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Beat Note! What do you think of the recent additions in version 3.0? Are you using 32nd notes in your beats? Have you been creating worksheets? Improved in this release:
- Revamped Click Track Settings: I've completely overhauled the click track settings, making it simpler than ever to toggle the click track and count-in, select count-in duration, choose click track subdivisions, and pick your preferred click track sound. A big shoutout to our users whose feedback shaped this redesign, especially those who inquired about turning the click track on/off. Your input was invaluable, and we're confident this new design is a step in the right direction.

Are there aspects that need improvement or additional configurations? Your feedback is incredibly valuable.

- Fixes a crash that occurred when long-pressing on a location of the Practice Beat screen that was not a measure of music.

The following annoyances have also been improved in this release:

- When scrolling to the "start playback from" measure, ensure enough space at the top so articulations are not hidden behind the playback controls.
- When changing the click track settings during playback, the repeat beat iteration is no longer reset.
- When viewing a downloaded beat, the author link is now visible when using B&W Reader Mode.
- Additional white space has been added between the leading repeat barline and the note on beat #1.
- When practicing a beat, the beat name is now fully visible instead of cutting off the bottom of the text.

Please have a look at the Beat Note roadmap under the Settings screen to learn about upcoming features and vote on your favorites.

- Beats shared by Beat Note Content Creators have been updated to include their user name and link to their profile page.
- The profile page for Beat Note Content Creators shows their name, profile photo, a short bio, a link to their homepage, and location.

Improved in this release:
- When playing back a beat using the click track count-in feature, the count-in is only played the first time. When the beat loops, the count-in will not be played again. What do you think about this improvement? Let me know if having the count-in play every time is a feature you'd like the ability to configure.

This bug fix release fixes an issue where a user's subscription renewal would not update to the renewal expiration date. Thanks to Gilles for discovering this issue and bringing it to my attention so I could fix it quickly!

This release focuses on user-requested enhancements. Thanks to everyone who is contributing to the Beat Note roadmap! Please keep your feedback coming!

New in this release:
- Export Image now saves your last selected settings. File type, background color, and transparency are saved and will be used each time you export any image. The measure # is saved per beat, so the next time you export a measure for a particular beat, it will never forget the last measure # you selected for that specific beat. Thanks, Zak!
- The "Floor Tom 2" instrument has been added for those with two up and two down setups that can now recreate your favorite tom grooves. Thanks, Gilles!

Improved in this release:
- 16th Note Triplet Beaming has been improved to render music more accurately. All 16th note triplets are now beamed as a tripartite subdivision, subdividing the beams into groups of 8th notes to clarify the subdivision.
- Edit Beat: Long press on any measure to quickly access the rearrange measures feature. This mimics the same functionality as the iPhone. Thanks, Ross!

Fixed in this release:
- Practice Beat & Edit Beat: When the count-in is turned on, and the end of the beat is reached, Beat Note now scrolls to the top of the music when the count-in fires instead of waiting for the first note in the beat.

New in this release:
- Pinch to Zoom has been added to the Practice Beat screen! Increase or decrease the size of the music notation using two fingers to zoom in or out. Beat Note remembers your preferences on your device for both portrait and landscape orientations.
- iPhone and iPad both support a minimum zoom level of 1 measure wide and a maximum zoom level for an appropriate number of measures based on the screen size.

Improved in this release:
- When a measure of music displays the percussion clef and/or time signature, the amount of space allocated to these musical elements now expands to include some margins on both sides instead of being cramped closely together.
