What was new in version 2.2.1:

New Feature: Navigation Marks.

This release adds Navigation Marks for the IALA Maritime Buoyage System, with the ability to choose between Region A or Region B. The lights and shapes databases have had some additions, and a number of minor fixes have been made.

The detailed changes in this release are:
- Added ColRegs Sections A & B to the Rules browser.
- Added US Inland Rules Section A & B to the Rules browser.
- Added a light configuration for Rule 24a, to show the lights for a towing vessel with a towed vessel. Thanks to Jan for bringing this to our attention.
- Changed the cylinder shape from a square to a rectangle, to be more representative of an actual displayed shape. Thanks to Derrick for bringing this to our attention.
- Added an alert message that displays if the Search button is tapped when no search criteria has been drawn.
- Added a fuzzy search for Rule 27d - vessel engaged in dredging or underwater operations. The search can now include sidelights, stern light and masthead light (to comply with 27b(iii)), as well as the green and red special all-round lights swapping sides. Thanks to Rafael for suggesting this.
- Fixed the data for US Rule24f(i), so that a search now finds this configuration.
- Added a fuzzy search to recognise possible reversal of sidelights. Thanks to Pat for prompting this.
- Added a fuzzy search to recognise any light configuration that has red over white over red as being a vessel with restricted manoeuvrability (rule 27b), regardless of what other lights are being displayed.
- Added a title above the result list to make it obvious whether the list is Exact matches or Possible matches (iPad only).
- Added NSW specific rules to the Australian regulation set.
- Added light and shape configurations to match, including: priority over sail; high-speed ferry; power-driven vessel < 5m. Thanks to Bradley for bringing this to our attention.
- Added IALA Rules for Maritime Buoyage Systems.
- Added a simple search for quickly finding the meaning of a navigation mark, including an example of how to navigate the mark.

This release adds Lights, Shapes and Sounds for the US Inland Rules, and the ability to change between different rule sets. Currently we support International (ColRegs), US Inland and Australian rule sets - the International rules are applicable for most countries.

Searching and browsing is now restricted to the chosen rule set. For instance, when ColRegs are selected then a search will not return results for a configuration specific to US Inland.

We have also started adding features to allow users of the app to provide input into the completeness and accuracy of the data. The first two features added are: the ability to link to either our website or Facebook page to leave a comment or suggestion; and the ability to send us an email directly from the search screen when a light/shape/sound configuration is not found.

The detailed changes in this release are:
- Added support for US Inland light, shapes and sounds.
- Rule sets: added the ability to search and browse based on different rule sets. This feature introduces the ability to set the app to work with a set of rules for a specific country or jurisdiction. Initially the app has 3 rule sets configured: International (ColRegs, which it already had); Australian (ColRegs + Local additions); and USA Inland. New rule sets can now be easily added into future releases.
- Rules as hypertext (HTML). Previously, rules were shown as simple text. This feature provides a foundation to update the rules to include: formatting; graphics; and hyperlinks between the rules. This is like having the rules as a mini website inside the app.
- An index menu to allow quick navigation between rules.
- A prompt to review the app, with the ability to disable/enable the prompt through the device's Settings app.
- Ability to submit by email any searches that did not find a match in the database. This feature can be disabled/enabled to suit the user's personal preferences.
- Fixed some minor errors in a number of images.
- Disabled View Rule when no matches found.
- Fixed an issue with changes to device orientation not being handled correctly on the iPad.
- A number of minor issues were also fixed.
- A number of minor adjustments were made to the user interface.

This release introduces an iPad specific user interface. When running on an iPad, Boat Lights will adjust its user interface to make optimal use of the larger iPad screen. iPad users of the app will immediately notice the difference and appreciate the improved work flow that the larger screen offers. All core functionality remains the same across both the iPhone and iPad, just the way you interact with the app changes.

The detailed changes made in this release are:
- Added iPad specific screens for searching and browsing lights, shapes and sounds.
- Added iPad specific About screen.
- Added vessel silhouettes to the light configurations, for search results and browsing, to enhance visual identification.
- Now supported on iOS 5.
- Improved internal memory management, making use of new features found in iOS 5.

This version adds shapes and sounds. As with lights, any shape or sound configuration can be quickly drawn and then searched against the database. To support the new functions, the app has been restructured and now has a main menu to provide quick navigation to the required function. A number of bug fixes have been made along with some improvements in the visual interface and application performance.
